Separation of Church and Hate

  1. That is Christianity in a nutshell, and why I have begun using the term “pseudo Christian” for those who stand for everything that the Jesus of the Bible was against, and against everything the Jesus of the Bible stood for. I use the term “Jesus of the Bible” because it avoids argument of whether Jesus was a historical person or a person of legend, and because these pseudo Christians idolise the book and follow it literally except when it comes to the teaching of Jesus.

Although Christians make up about a third of the population here, I am pleased to say that such pseudo Christians are the outliers here and unlike in America, they are not seen as being representative of Christianity or of religion in general. And by way of a simple comparison, the introduction of the welfare state in New Zealand in the 1930s was framed as an embodiment of Christian principles, emphasising care for the vulnerable and marginalised members of society. The Labour Party came to power by positioning itself as the party of practical Christian compassion and the first Labour Prime Minister described it as “applied Christianity”. So different from the “prosperity gospel” along with the hatred and exclusion of all vulnerable and marginalised members of society as preached by the pseudo Christians.

    1. Hi Barry. Thank you for the information. I like the kind of Christians the majority of yours are. Christians like Roger and Ali, both who read the blog and comment. I wish their types of Christians were more vocal in the US so they could drown out the hate preachers. But right now they would be targeted and threatened just as much by the hate preacher and maga thugs as the rest of the targets of hate are. Best wishes. Scottie.
