  1. It appears that Kowalski has a pragmatic approach rather than one based on an ideology. In that respect he’s very much like the majority of politicians from both sides of the political divide here. Unfortunately here our government currently is a dog consisting of one pragmatic slightly right of centre major party, being wagged by a tail made of one ideology driven right of centre, libertarian party and a populist party that relies on the charisma of its leader.

    1. Hi Barry. Kowalski is a frequent caller and guest on the Same Seder The Majority Report I often post. The show is left wing and quite progressive. They are Bernie Sanders / Elisabeth Warren supporters. The reason he is running as a republican is in Nebraska unless you have an R for Republican behind your name it is almost impossible to get elected. But if you listen to him, he is talking center left talking points. Why?

Because as he says most of the people around the state support his ideas but can not bring themselves to call themselves democrat or vote for one. It is the same in a lot of the rural states. If you ask / poll the people on issues without saying which party supports it, the majority supports left leaning democrat policies. But ask them the same questions with party affiliation and they suddenly shift to support any policy with an R for republican and against any policy that has a D for democrat. It is totally knee-jerk and stupid, but for generations it has been ingrained in families in those states. Republicans good, democrats bad.

It is weird how tribal the US has become. People don’t think any more about policies or what is good for the country, they only react to what is good for the party. We see that in the state and federal congresses.

Look at the republicans in the federal congress that right after the January 6th insurrection blamed that on tRump but who now show up in court to parrot his talking points. It is crazy what tRump has done to this country. The US has fractured with a small percentage of the population being thuggish and super belligerent, trying to force the rest of the country to be as they demand. That used to be seriously denied and frowned on, but after tRump came to power, that is his entire M.O.

Like I said Kowalski is pro immigration, pro government helping the people, pro feeding the poor, schooling programs, and other programs that help farmers like himself … but the republican establishment works against that. Best Wishes. Scottie

  2. Wow. A centrist Republican. I thought they were extinct. And this one’s young, too. Maybe he knows, or has enough peers in ag to actually get elected. That would be a good thing.

The ag community here keeps discussing the conservation economy concept, but the owners of most of the farms here are libertarian Republicans still playing with hard-right GOPers, so it goes nowhere, and they vote against their own interests.

Pres. Obama came here at least 2x, though, once before he was elected Pres. So sometimes they visit ag states. It’s Republicans who don’t bother.

I’d still like for someone to ask Republicans how they’re going to pay everybody back the money we’ve all paid in on Social Security and Medicare. This guy could be someone who’d do that.

    1. I should clarify my bit about the owners of farms as opposed to those who farm the farms. The owners are as I said, while the farmers are who vote against their own interests.

      1. Hi Ali. I was in the middle of answering your comments when the bell icon reset wiping your comment out. Kowalski is a great guy. He is pretty much a progressive in his thinking on social issues. He is on Same Seders The Majority Report all the time. He got 40% of the vote and forced the incumbent maga candidate to have to spend a huge amount to defend their seat. Not only that, but he came in second. I love it. If we had more republicans like him, tRump wouldn’t be an issue and the party would not have to cheat to win in most places. Hugs. Scottie
