At half a mile a week, Gov. Greg Abbott’s border wall will take around 30 years and $20 billion to build

Some quotes from the article that show these walls are useless, and can be over come with a battery operated reciprocating saw most hardware stores sell rather cheaply.  What I want to know is what is driving this need by Texas republicans?  Is it political or is it hate and bigotry, racism to save the white majority they will soon lose.    Hugs.  Scottie

The state has built about 34 miles of wall spread out across at least six counties on Texas’ 1,254-mile border with Mexico.

Three years after Gov. Greg Abbott announced Texas would take the extraordinary step of building a state-funded wall along the Mexico border, he has 34 miles of steel bollards to show for it.

  1. So I’ve been pretty ticked off with US media since the debate. I have a-I’ll concede small-nit to pick with this. I wonder if someone can tell me what, precisely, a disposable ladder is? Before I wrote this, I searched, and did not find. I did find and skim here, https://www.americanladderinstitute.org/page/Ladders101 (there is an American Ladder Institute! Who knew? But I’m glad there is; I recall safety meetings in times past, about ladders in the workplace, so it makes sense there is an Institute. Anyway.) I like when an article leans in a humanitarian direction in regard to these stupid walls, but I don’t think it does our side any favors when they make stuff up, whether it’s people in the WH saying Joe Biden passed away 3 weeks ago, or writing that immigrants use disposable ladders to confound Gov. Abbott.

OK. I’ll stop grousing. Corky’s actually been outside almost 30 whole minutes in one stretch, with no explosions, so maybe she’ll sleep tonight and I won’t have to mop the floor when I get up! 😀

    1. Hi Ali. A disposable ladder is one made out of rope. They are often used for second and third story bedrooms as they are secured in the room, a window is opened and the rope ladder thrown out. For the wall climbers I included a video from X that shows them in use. The wall ones have long hooks that go over the wall. The last person to use it to climb up unhooks it and throws it to the people who will run away and use it for other people in the future. No one made it up, they really exist. Also they are cheap enough that if they they get left or the border patrol comes up they can just leave it. Disposable.

I am glad to hear Corky is getting over the fireworks and I hope she slept. Hugs. Scottie

      1. OK. But now I’m gonna wonder why the American Ladder Institute doesn’t acknowledge those as ladders. I think I remember seeing something similar, made out of chain, when I was young. I’m recalling one of the boys using it to get out of the Douglas house on My Three Sons. But same principal, probably.

        1. Hi Ali. I think they may not be considered by ladder companies to be real ladders. So they don’t show or promote them. But. I just typed in rope ladders into DuckDuckGo, and it came back with a large amount of examples. I guess the word throwaway was a bad choice by the author and they should have used rope ladder. Please search it. You will see it is a really large long selection and kinds, all made of hooks or other ways to attach them. Hugs. Scottie

          1. No, I believed you the first time! I bet it is ladder snobbery with the Institute. (Because you know they’ve got to be at least a little snobby to decide there needs to be an institute.) 😄
