Firstly I love that mug.
Secondly, he’s got a point!

Hi Roger. I agree. Texas Paul normally has well thought out and interesting positions. But his full support of Israel’s attack on Gaza surprised me, and his contempt for collage kids who were protesting Israel. That really turned me off him. So I only started watching him again. I will post him more maybe if people like what he has to say. Hugs. Scottie

Yeah.
You’ll know Scottie, from some of my replies I have my own take on what has been going on in Gaza and also on the protest movements.
Basically I would say about Texas Paul’s responses there ‘Yeah. I get it,’.
Looking at his second point first I have to say I have a broad agreement. Though with some groups it’s exasperation, others particularly in the UK it is contempt, that’s because they give Putin and free-pass and also did the same for Assad of Syria -only because they are anti-American and anti-Israel. My argument is an old one ‘Where were you folk when… ‘and then I list other recent horrors visited upon minorities (mostly Muslim by the way) in other nations.
It may seem a harsh judgment to some, but vile cruelty in a world-wide issue, selecting one place alone does not address the whole issue, the rest tend to get ignored.
I can’t say I support Israel’s excessive response…it’s counter-productive. They have of course their own version of the Hamas mindset in their cabinet and military so they will meet excessive violence with their own excessive violence. The harsh reality, is when comparing this with what has is still talking place at a lower level in Yemen and Syria, this is the way things are done in that region. A ferocious blood letting followed by some grudging negotiations but never reconciliation. To find the causes you have to go back to at least 140 years, and maybe when you are there find you need to go back again.
And sometimes folk on the outside choose sides to support, for all sorts of reasons, some so deep in complexity, you’d need at least a WP post just skim the surface.
An old story in this world. Different locations, different characters, same plot.
A speed read through this link will show you just a snap-shot of the problem:

Take care you guys.
Best wishes

Hi Roger. I understand your point, I really do. However two small points. We don’t really have the far left here that you do. So the pro-Palestine demonstrators here don’t support Putin or that stuff.
The other point is today I posted about the Israeli citizens storming their own military justice courts because the military police tried to and finally were able after a fight to arrest Israeli soldiers who were credibly accused and charged with raping Palestinian prisoners who were being held without charges with sticks, objects, with penises, and other abuses including damage to testicles resulting in sterility or needing amputation.
The civilians in the videos I posted were demanding that the soldiers be allowed to torture and rape the prisoners and that Palestinians were not human. It was an eye opening view of where the population of Israel is now and how they see the Palestinians. Plus these abuses were going on for at least 5 years per the charges. So the attack on Aug 8th did not cause this.
The witness reports said it was far worse than what the US did to prisoners in Iraq. So I think at this point any democrations agrainst Israel on this issue is justified. Please watch the video and let me know. Thanks. Hugs. Scottie

Yes I was reading abut this on the Haaretz news site which has been covering these events and likened the mob action to the 6th January 2021.
The accounts reminded me of reports I had read of abuses conducted by the then Syrian and Iraqi security forces back in earlier decades, and look where those nations are now.
Israel is a divided nation, currently the government and the security forces are able to crack down on anti-Zionist Israelis claiming they are traitors.
And yet the opposition is there:
https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2024/6/22/all-of-the-rats-in-the-knesset-mass-anti-war-protest-in-israel
* NB this source is Aljazeera which has its own editorial view so the figure 150,000 may be larger than the actual numbers but the general trend is indicative.
Israel as Syria as Lebanon could tear itself apart will internal pressure as modern day views collide with traditionalists and religious extremists.
The alternative being that there will be a Total War in the region which it is likely Israel will lose by sheer attrition, the cost will be horrific and will link up with that in other flash points and conflicts in the world.
We will all feel the affects.

Hello Roger. Thank you for reading what I sent and replying with this.
You wrote:
It does seem from what reporting I have seen that Netanyahu wants a huge war that he feels the US will be forced to come in on Israels side and wipe out all their Arab opposition. But the US keeps telling him that they don’t want that and won’t do it. Other reports say he has no choice but start a larger war so he stays in power and out of prison.
Thank you for the link. I will read them next. Hugs. Scottie

Then he is a complete fool and will answer to The Lord God (Just had to say that, sometimes beliefs insist on a voice).
On another level, this did not work out so well for Hitler did it? Or the Japanese military in WWII?
One of my favourite US cartoonists Jeff Danziger has this portrayal of ‘War’ See below-

In many of the cartoons where War figures the current politician who has started it is shown as a small hapless figure under War’s control.

Hi Roger.
Roger you give voice to anything you feel the need to say here. Your belief in the almighty and his acceptance of the ones the haters like to villainize is very welcome here. I have spent my life trying to help others when I can, you help me with that fight and if it is your belief in a higher power that helps you with that I say AMEN!
Thanks for the cartoon. I used it in my Meme / Cartoon roundup. As for the politician who started war being small was the premise of the god of war pulling the strings to get people to hate and fight in the old days, and on TV in the show Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. His nemesis was the god of war, who was his step-brother.

Thank you Scottie.
Let Compassion, Respect and Tolerance be our bench marks. Those who claim to believe in a Supreme Deity and do not follow those three are not true believers. Those who do not hold to a Supreme Deity and yet follow those three stand as tall as any.
Keep up your good work Scottie.
Following the Hercules and Xena shows I remember Aries very well, played with great verve by the late Kevin Smith….. Trouble was he played such a charming roguish God of War.

Wow! Roger I wouldn’t have thought you would be a viewer of US TV shows such as that. But I have to admit, as a young adult the shows did impress on me to be a much better person than others around me. Too bad Kevin Sorbo turned out to be a douchebag hater of the LGBTQ+. He went very religious and bought into the god is a hateful vengeful god. Hugs.

I’ve always had an interest in SF and Fantasy Fiction. Hercules and particular Xena were just fine for me (and my younger daughter Clare).
I was uncomfortable with Sorbo’s stands, then disappointed and put me off his roles. On the other side Lucy Lawless- Xena was quite at ease with the lesbian sub-text between Xena and Gabriele (her quote was on the characters was ‘Oh Yeah. Xena and Gabriele- they’re married’) Lawless went on to play bi-roles in the remake of ‘Battle Star Galactica’ and the TV series ‘Spartacus’
Fun-reveal – I wrote two Fantasy trilogies which sold like nothing (the lot of an ‘indy’ writer) but were great fun to write. The second featured three women as the central characters; two of whom became lovers, then married and finally biological parents – (that was challenge to write – but as any writer of fiction will tell you, when characters decide on a narrative line the poor writer just has to go with them – Lucky for me it was in a Fantasy realm- still based on speculative science )

Hi Roger. I also love science fiction. Both reading and watching. I also loved the Xena show and how the charter of Gabrielle progressed. Hugs. Scottie

A show ahead of its time, I suspect had some influence in the direction Buffy The Vampire Slayer tv series took.
