Hello All.
A number of years ago I posted about my friend Tommy, but heard the below song and was reminded of him. Tommy grew up just down the road from me, and we played as kids. His parents were very nice and they always made me feel welcome. At that time, I don’t know what was more needed: the friendship I had with Tommy or the welcoming kindness of a home that made me feel good about myself.
As I grew out of Elementary School and into Middle School, Tommy and I continued to be friends. I admired Tommy, “looked up to him”, and that is in quotes because he was considerably smaller than I was. Tommy had a confidence in him that I didn’t. A level eye, a strong kindness and quick smile And he was cute! Yes, I was very attracted to Tommy. But, as luck would have it, Tommy was not only very not attracted to me but was already getting a lot of attention from the girls. We soon went our own ways when I made the mistake of hoping.
Come forward some forty odd years and I saw a garage sale in the neighborhood as I was coming home. I stopped and saw a few things I liked, then asked about a boy I once knew that lived there named Tommy. Well, foot in mouth, Tommy died a few months previous in a car accident. I continued after that day to look in on his mother and talk with her as she walked her dog in the neighborhood. I never knew if she was aware of my feelings for her son or if she ever wondered why she stopped seeing me come to her warm home.
And so I offer this memory and song to all who missed out on that hope like I did.
I still think of you, Tommy. Wish things could have been different. May your rest be peaceful.

Hi Randy. You are not the only gay boy to have a crush on a friend only to have them turn out to be straight. Lucky today kids are / were growing much more comfortable being open about their feelings and sexuality. Unless the maga minority wins, and then it will be back to the closet for the LGBTQ+ kids. Hi Scottie. One thing I never understood how some bigots can somehow disapprove of people being gay and, shazaam! no one is gay anymore. Gay folks have been around for thousands of years, from time before written history. The Spartans had gay relationships. King David of the Bible had a gay relationship. All throughout history men and women have been gay. The truth of the matter is that often times men would marry to camouflage their true identity, spending their life in an unhappy marriage built on deception. How is that fair to anyone involved?
I’m really angry with the republican political party. They have done a real disservice to America, to the citizens who think they are voting for good things. The republican party leadership is comprised of very demanding, negative and unrealistic people. They don’t believe in hope, love, living a genuine life. They believe in demanding others cede to their demands, their rules, their control. They live on the “ends justify the means” and have no care who gets hurt. They are ok with law violation provided it meets their agenda. We as citizens of America ought to be better than that.

That says it all. The republicans in office do not want to represent the people, they demand to rule the people. They do not respect the will of others instead they want everyone to live in lockstep with the way they pretend to live. Because we all know while they may demand that people be straight and cis as they claim their god wants … yet they don’t care to live by anything else their god tells them to do in that book. They don’t like Jesus instead loving the Old Testament vengeful angry god. They also have two different standards as you say one that applies to them and one that applies to everyone else. They can shoot at Harris campaign signs and campaign offices, but they cry to high heaven if someone does that to tRump stuff. They are OK with interrupting and stopping drag queen story hours but no one is allowed to protest their maga shit. Hugs. Scottie
