Christians “Take Back” Christmas In Wisconsin

I am glad the Rev. made this post.  Nothing made me angrier over the years than Christians thinking this time of year that their celebrations were the start of it all. How ignorant of history.  To them the world started and ended with their religion.    Every year in our park of homes I saw and still do see lawn signs with “Put Christ back in Christmas”, followed by Christ is the reason why we have Christmas.  I lost many fellow neighbors as friends when I pointed out to them that most of the season’s traditions were pagan ones and that people celebrated the season long before their religion started.  Blasphemous they would yell at me, why the holiday has his name in it, they would yell. No matter the true history they wouldn’t listen and then would try to spread hate behind my back.  Very Christian of them.  Early maga before tRump came on the scene, but his type of people.  They are sure they are correct as it has always been that way in their life or for them.  Hugs.  Love.

  1. So much of what our society thinks of as “Christmas” celebrations is absolutely based on ancient pagan beliefs. From the tree, to the holly decorations. The Bûche De Noël (Yule Log) is yet another example.

All of it comes from the celebration of the Winter Solstice, which represented the returning of the Sun and the imminent end of Winter. And all of that was around long before the Christian church co-opted it in an effort to convert more people to Christianity.

Even the Christ mythos is based on various ancient Gods. Christ died and was reborn? So were many Gods before him. Dying-and-rising god is a common theme, and it was long before the Jewish Rabbi known as Jesus. Osiris of ancient Egypt is just one such story.

Self-centered and egotistical is an apt description of so many of today’s “Christians.” Yes, I quoted that word, because if one believes the Bible, Jesus would reject those who claim to be righteous “in His name.” Jesus, as a philosopher, has many ideas worthy of striving toward. His “followers?” Not so much.

    1. Hi Janet. Yes very true and almost everyone not fundamentally devoutly Christian would agree with you. The true history of the Christian religion and the history of Christmas is become a sacred myth for them. They have to have it, they cling to it. It is what they need to claim supremacy for their group, their beliefs. So to try to correct that is to attack their very idea of their superiority. Something few will be willing to listen to. Hugs
