So much of this story is upsetting. But one detail stood out to me, and it has not been stressed enough when police violence and false arrests. The man, Mr. Brock lost his job three days after the brutal assault and may have suffered severe financial distress. Police and prosecutors know that often just being charged can ruin a persons life. If the police chased every person they saw who ‘flipped the bird’……what other crimes would be attended to?
If they had nothing else to do, on a slow day, which I find it hard to believe happens in LA, and tried to ascertain in a non-confrontational way just what had been going on and maybe ending with a sympathetic ‘Yeah I know. Try and take it easy next time’ ending to the conversation that would be one thing.
This just strikes me as the victim somehow being known to that officer and picked on because of their trans status.
Hi Roger. No I disagree. The worst crime in the US is and has been for some time to disrespect a cop. Even when there are different cops shouting different orders. Sadly it happens all the time. A lot of police are egotistical and older school yard bullies. They demand instant subservient obedience. Hugs.

Yes we found out during tRump’s first term many of the police and a portion of the police were racist white supremacist into the gangs like Proud Boys, Oath Keepers, 3%s, and other militia groups. When these gangs attacked the BLM protestors the police often sided with the attackers and protected them. Often when film crews were around they would handcuff them and once away from cameras simply let them go. The right in the US thinks might makes right and has no problem using force and violence to get what they want. The left tries to be understanding and work to get people to a consensus. But the right is so convinced they are correct, that god is on their side, that only they know and understand what it takes to protect the future, they feel they can terrorize the people to achieve their aims. I have to keep ‘banging’ away on this theme Scottie as folk need to get their heads around it.
In a nation with so many guns, it is very easy for disaffected minorities to be seduced in violence. All too simple for one bitter and traumatised person to lurk in an alley and take a shot at a passing police patrol car…. And probably take out an officer who is just trying fairly to do their job.
If Trump and his court keep on, acts of such random violence are on the horizon, those Proud Boys had better take care too.
Like I’ve said we witnessed in Northern Ireland.
Sadly Roger that is what the proud boys and these other groups want. They want a race cis straight war where they think they will joyously kill all the non-white people, kill all the LGBTQ+ people, kill all the drag queens, kill all the non-Christians. Then they will have the perfect country according to them, a perfect white, Christian, cis, straight ethnostate run by a dictator who hates everything they hate, and lets them be as violent as they want. So they want the troubles, they welcome being tRump’s private army, his brownshirts. So yes I think what you describe could happen, but what is worse is the right wants it to happen, they yearn for the troubles. A lot of the police are part of these groups and think that if that happens they will get to abuse and shoot all the people they hate. Scary times, it could melt down quickly. Now we have a new military leader, the Secretary of Defense, who is a racist misogynist bigot who is also a Christian Nationalist. Plus a black out drunk and domestic abuser who is accused of sexually assaulting women. What can I say but if this country survives and doesn’t destroy our the good will we used to have in other countries I will be surprised. If we can get through the next four years and the LGBTQ+ are driven from social media and society, if LGBTQ+ kids are not returned to being targets to be harassed, threatened, harmed at school to the point of being afraid to be themselves but instead hide pretending to be cis or straight to preserve their lives, I will be happy thinking we did the best we could. Like others who glory and wait for some kind of war, they are only dreaming of how it will be.
They are not ready for the random killings on their own, their loved ones caught in a crossfire.
The IED planted near one of their meetings. The abductions and the bodies in the remote areas. Living with the knowledge that suddenly they ‘could be next’. They may think they are, but like all wars, they are not.
They will not be ready for the random few of the LGBT+ community who have been pushed too far and carrying their own assault rifle ready to ‘take a few with them before they get shot down’.
There is always a bill to be paid, and it is a bloody one, filled with no just death but damage that will not go away.
They truly have not idea of the real horror of the low key urban warfare which goes on while a society struggles to keep a hold on normality.
For it comes in with no warning, and for each act they try as a reprisal there will be another waiting in response.
For this possibility they are not prepared; they might talk the talk….walking the resultant walk is not what they signed up for.
Much less their families and friends.
