  1. I try to avoid making comparisons between Trump administration and Hitler’s Nazi one as such a comparison is not to be used lightly or in a fit of anger.

However, and there is always an However….. Observing the rush to effectively batter (it’s important to get those two words in the right order) through the State apparatus of the USA reminds me of the 1941 German invasion of Russia in 1941, known as Barbarossa.

Bear with me while I seem to go in geek and nerd mode here. There is a reason.

For decades this was considered a model of efficiency and effective planning which only failed because of the Russian winters and hordes of Russians.
In recent decades more sober assessment by military professionals with post Cold War access to old USSR and Germany records reveal that although there was a plan by the German military:
    1. It under-estimated the USSR capacity to survive and its industrial base.
    2. The German logistics were poorly planned.
    3. Its armed forces relied on a hodgepodge of types of vehicles many not suited to the Russian environment and thus made replacement and repair complex.
    4. The USSR army command to begin with was very bad. It got better.
    5. The Germans were universally brutal to the Russian population, no attempt at Hearts and Minds.

    OK onto the parallel.
    1. Trump and the Court assume that they only have to say it is so and the whole USA does.
    2. The dismantling of state structures does not take into account rapid and efficient replacement only a long wish list. Bad logistics
    3. The administration relies on a variety of groups to work together with little or not experience in their roles and assuming all agendas will work together. There’s that hodgepodge.
    4. The Democrats have been woefully inadequate in acting as a united and drive political party over the past arguably 10 years- ‘Past’ being the active word here. The more the Trump court pushes the more likely there will grow a grouping which will united the party into one force.
    5. The folk around Trump have their own brutal and intolerant agendas built upon simplistic lines and relying on the principal that all will go well because they want it to. They have not taken into account the reactions.

Thus the warning is that a headlong rush and a dismantling of the structure, without serious and careful long term planning leads to operational and strategic failure.
If a closer historical comparison is needed. Then consider the USA coalition into Iraq.

In short Vance’s comments are folly, ill-advised and likely to fuel more opposition, in one form or another.

    1. Oh and Roger, do you think the progression of Germany in the 1930 is not what is happening in the US right now? You have a much better grasp of history and education than I do. But from what I do know of that time period it seems that tRump is a repeat of that time. Complete with his own army of enforcers the Proud Boys / other militia groups, capitulation of his own party because they are afraid for their families / children to oppose him, the purge and putting his own people in charge of the military, the demonizing of anyone not white straight cis, with males being in charge and females used as breeding stock to make white babies. 1. I did try to avoid the comparisons because the whole idea of speaking well of Hitler and the Nazis can still be very, very emotive in Europe.
That said the parallels which you are drawing Scottie are apt; even to the extent of putting folk who have no experience or ability suited to the roles.

What has frustrated me, is that the opposition to this Right Wing is missing opportunities to turn the image of the extreme right in on itself.
There is one very easy and open example:
WWII. Battle of the Bulge December 1944 to January 1945. At the village of Malmedy on the 17th of December 1944 the Nazi Wafen SS massacred 89 American soldiers who had surrendered and were P.O.Ws.
It is a simple task that any time any one in the US shows any sympathy or support for Hitler that should be thrown back in their faces, and unrelenting. If this was taken up on Social Media within the US that would stifle a of this nonsense, if those carrying banner were heckled with the chant of ‘Malmedy’ that would foil them too.

        1. I agree Roger. However the democrats just managed to lose the one piece of leverage they had because the minority leader Chuck Schumer is one of many corporate democrats who are too afraid of losing corporate money that they are basically paid to lose to the republicans. These democrats can’t message, they have older thin reedy wavering voices and use slogans from 30 to 40 years ago. The corporate democrat Nancy Pelosi who is 78 plus years old and can barely speak sabotaged one of the best speakers for the democrats, AOC, by keeping her from being ranking member on the oversight committee which is a powerful committee to instead put a 73 year old fighting throat cancer corporate democrat instead. The man can’t talk because of his throat cancer. Then the democrats tell people they have to vote for them but they never seem to do anything for the people they demand vote for them. Hugs

          1. There are political parallels here with the Left Wing dominated Labour Party under Jeremy Corbyn.
The Conservative government was so riddled with errors, insufficient folk and Boris Johnson who has always been nothing better than a ‘Dinner Party’ guest in terms of political weight.
And yet the party was so riven with factionalism they fell to their greatest defeat.
The Republicans gave the Democrats so many easy targets that operators such as LBJ, RFK and Clinton could only have dreamed of.
Remember the message James Carvell Clinton’s campaign strategist gave to campaign workers…”The economy, stupid”.?

All the Democrats had to stick with in 2024 was ‘It’s Democracy, stupid’. That’s all they had to say with one voice, loud and long with sleeves rolled up.

  2. Hi Roger. I agree with most of what you wrote. However number 4 has not come to be true.

The Democrats have been woefully inadequate in acting as a united and drive political party over the past arguably 10 years- ‘Past’ being the active word here. The more the Trump court pushes the more likely there will grow a grouping which will united the party into one force.

Today the news reports that despite the CR to keep the government open includes all the cuts that Musk group made and tRump violating the laws by withholding funds the congress made into laws which creates a huge slush fund of money for tRump to illegally pay for, it slashes the medical care for the poorest people, slashes the food aid to the poorest people slashes all the funding the congress gave the IRS to go after the wealthy tax cheats, and makes congress impotent / useless. The democrats are wavering and look like they will give the republicans the votes they need to pass it to keep the government open while getting nothing in return! It is like they are being paid to lose to the republicans. Hugs
