My positions on homosexuality & the Bible

    1. Hello Roger. I always feel weird posting bible / biblical scholars or those that talk about the bible. I am not anti-Bible nor am I a Christian believer in any way. I feel that as an atheist I have to be careful when talking about biblical / Christian stuff. I condemn actions that hurt others, but never condemn people living a positive Christian life based on the principles outlined by Jesus. The question most people ask me is why I get to judge Christians when I am not one.

My people, the LGBTQ+ are under hateful forceful attack by people who use the bible / Christian faith to do it. At the same time I remember my life was saved as a 17 year old having taken a bad beating hiding in a barn by a deeply Christian farmer who paid for me to go to a Christian boarding school a few days later. So I more than most understand not everything is black and white so we have to look at far more than the label Christian. Just as I ask that people look beyond the label LGBTQ+ or drag queen and even trans. None of those words, those labels make anyone inherently bad, it is what they do with their live that will do that. But when it comes to people who know the bible such this guy or Rev. Ed Trevors I feel the need to show that they don’t feel the bible should be used to attack me or my fellow LGBTQ+. Hopefully it will change some minds. Hugs

      1. It is important Scottie that people work towards those three ideals
        Compassion
        Respect
        Tolerance
We should try to adhere to them and expect others to do the same. The door swings both ways.
I notice that some who claim to be Christians seems pretty good at taking bits out of the Old Testament and from the post Gospel Acts and Letters of the Apostles. Yet seem to steer clear of quoting from Jesus Himself. Very telling.
OK we will all use labels of some sort, by interests, job, politics, social, etc, etc. And it’s difficult at times not to profile by doing so. But we have to work past that.
Two incidents on FaceBook when I was wandering through the science posts (I need to do that to get a writing buzz)
        1. I encountered a person who obviously voted for Trump. By some oddity, maybe because we were not instantly confrontational our exchanges were quite polite, if not a little stiff and formal. It was interesting.
        2. I can state I agree with ‘this’ or ‘that’ from a scientific basis but on including a statement regarding my face it is a certainty someone will come flying out of Facebook angry that the latter statement was in there. Apparently to their mindset the two cannot, must not exist together and must be attacked. Narrow thinking there.
