#BREAKING: On the eve of the state's flag ban, @slcmayor is proposing the @slcCouncil adopt three new city flags – each in Pride, transgender, and Juneteenth colors with the city's Sego Lily. They're expected to be adopted at their meeting tonight. @abc4utah pic.twitter.com/zAWlJaOPm4

Mayor @slcmayor says this is the way the city can "abide" by the law, and that the flags are meant to include, not divide. She says retribution is always possible and she laughed when I asked whether this was the "ultimate troll" of the Utah legislature. pic.twitter.com/dKo6kkB4Mi

Yes the flag ban bill was performative culture war nonsense. Doesn’t mean Salt Lake City was going to take it lying down. Private buildings across downtown raised their own flags today – including mine. pic.twitter.com/rNNrGuIuYD

Our new official flags. These flags are allowed by the law, that our state leaders spent hours debating. Thank you for allowing us to make those official city flags that can be flown at anytime highlighting the contributions of many. These flags won’t be kept in any closet! pic.twitter.com/YhdiR4uGAF

FYI, Salt Lake City isn't alone in doing adopting special flags to circumvent the new state law. The Boise City Council did the same thing last night. From @fox13news.bsky.social's sister-station in Boise: http://www.kivitv.com/downtown-boi… #utpol #Utah

On Tuesday night, the Boise City Council voted 5 to 1 to pass a resolution that marks the Pride flag as one of three official city flags.

Hi Roger. Yes at this point I feel the minorities in the US especially the trans and gay people along with anyone who is of darker skin here on a visa or even green card. Just being different from the white majority straight cis country the white supremacist bigot haters in charge are desperate to create makes you a target for them to remove from society. The illegal kidnaping and renditions of people who are here legally but either wrote something bad about tRump or against the genocide in Gaza and you will wind up in an ICE detention facility with no rights, no contact with the outside, and no contact with legal help or family. So you are correct we need to use every tool possible to keep us in the public view before we get outlawed like in Russia or Hungary. Hugs

Any governmental acts to discriminate against folk solely on the grounds of race, religion, gender or creed debases the whole cohesion of the nation.
It turns folk against each other, it breeds inequality and what these folk who impose it fail to realise is the corrosion will impact upon them.
A case of ‘As you sew. So shall you reap’. There will be no peace, no contentment, no ease of spirit. They cannot live on a false foundation of Hate for there is no peace.
And in a nation as large and disparate as the USA. there can be no total control, there will always be opposition and that opposition is turn can feed on anger and anger leads to retribution.
Wishing you and everyone in your community well in these testing times.
Roger
