Tariffs are bringing in tens of billions of dollars a month. What happens to all that money?
Hardly a day goes by without President Donald Trump boasting about the record tariff revenue the US government has been collecting since he ratcheted up taxes on almost every imported good.

  1. I just wrapped up the last of the accounting for when the oak tree fell on my Mini last March and it was in the shop for fifteen weeks. At the end of it all I paid a ten percent (10%) tariff ~ the insurance didn’t pay it, the body-shop didn’t absorb it ~ I paid a ten percent (10%) tariff on the parts to get it fixed. And am pretty happy about that: all the ups and downs it could have been 50 or 60%

I want to know where it is ~ who got it? Claims are they’re bringing in $billions, who’s getting it? ((( Where did the money go? )))

    1. Hi Ten Bears. That is the big question isn’t it. I am watching The Majority Report for Thursday. The showed a clip of a Morning Joe Host forcing Treasury Secretary Bessent to admit that the importer paid the tariff. At first Bessent did not want to admit that. Then Bessent was asked so who has to pay the importer for that tariff cost and he said the sending company could lower their price to make up for the tariff cost or that the importing company might eat the cost. He was desperate not to say the public paid the cost. But as you say you did pay it. Corporations and companies have a job of making profit. They can’t do that job if they eat all the costs. Hugs

      1. Maybe that part of the problem is Trump has always been personally rich, and for him, money is there. Always. No counting out quarters for the laundromat, or dimes for this or that, nope, just money.
He has no concept of what other people go through just to get through a day or two…

        1. Hi Judy. You are correct. There was only one time his personal wealth came into threat, so he then just started using other people’s money. For decades since his casinos went bankrupt he uses bank loans and laundered money to pay for everything he did. He never made so much money in “legal” scams as he did in his first term, and that scamming the maga is what is his main income. He is like a televangelist on TV always trying to extort more money from the followers / the flock for nothing but a promise for something better later. So here we are, with a wannabe mob boss child king in charge who demands things against the law and his cult gives it to him. Reminds me of the spoiled horrible child brat on Game of Thrones Joffrey. He was cruel and hateful just to please his every emotional impulse. Hugs

    1. Hi Ali. Did you notice what I wrote to Ten Bears? Bessent was desperate to not admit that the public pays the tariff, that it is a tax on the buyer. All tRump can see is the added money going into the treasury which is the way he has always seen things, for him money must come in no matter who pays or how it hurts them. He looks at only the money coming in. I had to laugh earlier in the year when he warned companies like Walmart not to increase prices but to eat the tariff’s themselves when he is scamming and using ever gimmick possible to get money from people. He wants the money coming in but doesn’t want the hit to the economy that is coming from the tariffs. And he would have gained more by not doing these tariffs but he is too stupid to understand that making people around the world bend the knee to him even if they don’t so he has to pretend they do gains the US less business income. What he is doing interferes with the economy. Everything I have read on this is tRump keeps saying he rules the world and he is trying to prove it, at least in his own mind. He thinks that he can bluff the public into believing he got all these grand deals for the US when none of them are good for us. The majority of deals he announced are only frame works and they give no tariff on the other countries imports but tariffs on the US imports. He is in effect putting tariffs on the US not other countries. Hugs

      1. Well, as to the refunds, it doesn’t matter who pays the tariffs; the Treasury is we the people’s money. If we’re really bringing in all this revenue and the government isn’t using it to make things better for we the people-and they’re not-we should be getting refunds. It’s our money, not the government’s.
POTUS hasn’t gotten any deals, from what I keep reading; countries are telling him what he wants to hear, then going on about their own business.

But, anyway, that’s what I mean about the refunds. Of course we the people are paying the tariffs. But if there’s all this revenue, we can cover all public school lunches, and likely get a national health service going. Or else we the people ought to be refunded for both the revenues and the cuts to services we’ve already paid for.
