    1. we areall suddenly learning what it REALLY feels like to be in a controlled country. What is truly horrifying, his Administration supports all this crap, not sure why, but they’re marching behind him, humming softly if not actually singing along.

      1. Yes, sadly, yes.
This is why on occasions although not a satisfactory option if there are no good choices you vote for the least, worst alternative and plan for better times. Somebody will get into the top job and diluting the effect is better than no action at all.

If you look at the administration and the Republicans at Capitol Hill you will note a number of independently wealthy white men in their middle and later years…..Living their dream. There are of course those who just go with the tide either because it’s a steady job or they are intimidated.
This cabal has been building up in experience and tapping into White Dissatisfaction for about three decades. 9/11 unsettled the population as a whole and when ‘One of Those People’ got into the Whitehouse – twice….. well it was time to get out the old white sheets, crack open selected passage of ‘The Good March’ pick a suitable egotistical Yo-Yo as presidential nominee and March.

If you wish for true Democracy, you can never rest, for a moment.

        1. Hi Roger. Well said, very well said. You wrote If you look at the administration and the Republicans at Capitol Hill you will note a number of independently wealthy white men in their middle and later years…..Living their dream. There are of course those who just go with the tide either because it’s a steady job or they are intimidated. Sadly that is the case on both sides of the aisle, in both parties. Those people are entrenched and they simply do not want their best times to end so they don’t rock the boat too hard that they might fall out. The senior democratic strategist that have lost election after election cautions more of the same moving slowly and gently. The older members especially leadership wants no real change that will challenge their positions. Pelosi fought the more progressive squad every step of every piece of legislation. Schumer claims his best act on the billionaire bailout bill was to get the name changed for all of 3 minutes. This is why people stopped voting for democrats. They feel the party has become republican lite working more for their big money donors rather than the people they represent. Hugs

          1. I understand Scottie.
Here we have a Labour Government voted in on a large majority. Now I do expect my government to disappoint me sometime in its tenure..that’s how it goes. What I did not expect was for this one to appears to be making a determined effort to make all the wrong choices guaranteed to annoy the voting population and send a large portion into the arms of Farage’s Right-Wing Reform Party. These past years we seem to have suffered from a shared incompetency be it Right, Centre or Left.

Regrading your own domestic situation I do wonder how much intimidation by sections of MAGA grass-roots mob has left Democrats passive for fear of safety of their families.

            Take care you guys.

      2. Hi Judy. Please read what I replied to Roger. But I agree we are being normalized to have military on all our city streets, gang masked thugs who can demand you prove you should be here and kidnap you at any time disappearing you, and a president making laws through executive orders rather than going through congress. Think of that alone. The republicans challenged each executive order from Obama and Biden as acting like a king and got most of them overturned in the courts. But they love that tRump is ruling by them. So we know they were never worried about democracy, they were only concerned about their own power to control how people lived and how much money they could make from the donors. Hugs

    2. Hi Roger. I agree. And I admit it is hard not to be discouraged. I have 20 open news tabs in a window I keep telling myself I will post to show the bigotry, hate, and total disregard for laws or norms of the tRump administration. I just can not understand the Nazism spreading through the country pushed by two groups. The wealthy who think total control will give them more power / money and the lower incomes who think that forcing others to live the way they desire the country to be as a white straight cis ethnostate will make them feel they fit in and be the accepted super class of US people. I just don’t get it. Hugs

      1. Against the backdrop of what appeared to be a steady progress in Abortion Laws, LGBT+ rights, and general opening of liberalism it is a grim fact that ‘there’ beyond all of that celebration of acceptance there was a reactive undercurrent that never went away.
The minorities knew it all along. But the clues were there, even leaving out the post-1960s history.
        1. In the aftermath of State Kent shootings, there was vocal support for the Nation Guard and folk chanting ‘more’ at memorials for those students killed.
        2. Reagan being voted in.
        3. The rise and proliferation of radio commentators and columnists such as Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter.
        4. The hysterical reaction to Barrack Obama’s two election victories
        5 The Oklahoma City Bombing.
        6. The media indulgence of Right Wing folk on reality shows.
The willing to embrace Intolerance and extreme Right-Wing views never went away. And they got their wish they got their Action Toy who does as they wish- Donald Trump.
        Take care your guys

        1. Hi Roger. All you say is true. I had thought we had pushed regressive haters and bigots under the rocks to hate in private knowing it was unacceptable in society. But as you said they worked hard to make it acceptable again especially the fundamentalist religious groups that made hate into a wealth generating living.

My question is how do we push them back under those rocks now that they have gained power and acceptance of such a cult following. How do we make such actions and thoughts not tolerated in society again? How do we withstand the assault on our minority communities until the maga cult dies out and the older people pushing a regressive resurgence of the 1950s die off leaving the younger people to rebuild? I am watching all I worked and hoped for being destroyed and that destruction celebrated by people who want a homogenous white straight cis ethnostate. Hugs

          1. On the face of it Scottie, it is a long hard road because the era in which progress took place was one of moderate affluence and a certain level of complacency. That has all been shaken loose.
However the Trump wave is built of very shaky ground and a cabal of competing and not very maturely capable folk, so the whole thing may rattle, shake from within and come apart in a weltering infighting and recriminations, leaving an opportunity for a new wave of tough resolute fighters to get in there.
            We shall see.

            Hope for better times

            1. Thank you Roger. We can hope. I think maga will fracture / splinter when tRump dies because no one can deny reality like tRump does and has done all his life. Several will try to claim the mantel of cult leader and the cults will follow different people or disband entirely. But I fear the violent ones have been so encouraged that they will stay that violent or get worse to force their ideas on people. It is well known the white supremacist gangs have moved into the police forces in the country and ICE has put that on steriods. When the next president try to restrain them they will rebell. Hugs

              1. The interest bit will be when the court that surrounds Trump starts to fight internally for control of him in his declining years. This happened often in the history of royalty based nations. (And in China when Mao Zedong became senile) .

As for them rebelling…..well that will interesting in a nation with more guns than people and the opposition to them take to the streets.

                1. Hi Roger. tRump is already clearly failing. For a guy who has pretended his doctors claimed he was in better shape than professional sports players and had one doctor say he would live to be 200, and also one saying he was the most fit president to ever take office when it was clear he was not.

Right now they say white supremest super neo-Nazi Stephen Miller is the real shadow president calling the shots, that nothing gets to tRump without his OK and if you notice he is in every White House video. The Vice president who is “the second in charge” has taken 8 vacation in 7 months. He is so totally out of the loop and not going to get the maga mantel. So you are right, it will be a political bloodbath over who gets to be the next cult leader. But the fact is the cult is one of personality so none of them have what tRump did. tRump was brought up from birth thinking he never did wrong and that no one could correct him. His dad was very wealthy for the time and made little Donald’s pretend reality come true. tRump has lived all his life being such a wealthy conman salesman that he has always been able to force others to accept his version of reality to deal with him. None of the have that up bringing or stupidity gift. Hugs

                  1. Hi SCottie.
That would be a pretty accurate summary of what is really going on.
And the present Veep Vance gets a pat on the head a bag of cookies and told to go and play with the nice MAGA folk.
Whether he wakes up one day, or some opportunist whispers in his ear and says ‘You can be next up there, if you listen to me’- that remains to be seen.
It’s all built on fear and anger.
                    There’s a fragility there.

                    Take care you guys,

                    Roger & Sheila
