Trump Tariffs Already Screwing American Farmers

  1. This is why I don’t care for this medium, Scottie. It’s not you, it’s MR. The farmers have been being hurt by tariffs and even rumors of tariffs, practically since Trump was inaugurated and began his Project 2025 work. The insane extreme weather has also contributed, but the cancellation of contracts, the destruction of food-paid for and not yet paid for but delivered-all of that has been hurting farmers all along.

Majority Report used to be kinda fun to listen to during W’s admin, when they were current and weren’t only about stoking outrage wherever they found it. But, I haven’t paid attention to them in several years, now; since shortly before Trump’s first term. They seem to be only in this to suppress voting, and for clicks and whatever revenue they generate.

It’s how I feel. Please don’t stop posting them if they work for you, Scottie. I’m speaking for myself. And the farmers, this time, because MR isn’t doing them any favors by only jumping on it just now. MR ought to contribute big to Farm Aid; that would actually help.

  2. Hi Ali. I think we have a fundamental disagreement about the dissatisfaction a large part and maybe majority of the party public feel with the democratic leadership and party in whole. That said I want to address your points out of respect for your opinion. I just read this over and it is somewhat repetitive so sorry if I get boring at some points, but I really wanted to reply as best I could. As I say later on, I value your opinion and feelings.

The tRump first term trade war cost farmers crop sales and contracts that never came back. The government had to bail out farmers to the tune of 16 to 18 billion dollars. Taxpayer dollars. tRump did not want to lose face and is too conceited to admit it instead claiming that he won the war with China. But all sectors of the economy are being devastated by tRump’s tariffs / trade war. For example we wanted a new engine for the car. Can’t get them and there is a long wait time plus it is so much more expensive as they are made in Mexico. Ford is shutting that line down.

Majority Report used to be kinda fun to listen to during W’s admin, when they were current and weren’t only about stoking outrage wherever they found it. I started listening to the Sam Seder from the morning AM Quickie report he did with a co-host. From there I moved to watching the main show and second half. I find the show very informative and newsworthy. They seem to be only in this to suppress voting, and for clicks and whatever revenue they generate. In this we disagree entirely. They support progressive candidates, they interview so many different kinds of people and subjects. Everyone from labor leaders, local leaders, authors, doctors, and so much more. I rarely post the interviews but I should I guess.

I disagree that The Majority Report is in any way suppressing the votes or trying for clicks via outrage. I see them in every full show repeatedly call for people to vote and support the left. They point out laws and political attempts by the right to keep minorities from voting. They suggest actions that can be taken to fight voter suppression.

What they do is point out what the gentrification and the moving right by the party leadership is hurting the party with the voters. Look Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries still have not endorsed Zohran Mamdani despite the NY governor doing so and him being the democratic candidate. Vote Blue No Matter Who seems to apply only to corporate candidates picked to make the donors happy. Why are they not endorsing? They claim in private conversations that have been leaked they’re worried about the big money donors being upset by Mamdani’s plan to tax the wealthy. Where is the worry about what the people want / need such as free mass transit and grocery stores where they are not profitable enough for big store chains.

I just posted this week a news article about how in California the younger party members are primarying the older do nothing democratic elected officials including Pelosi. I watched Senator Dick Durbin 80 who represents Illinois get steam rolled by Kash Patel. Patel yelled over him, talked over him, ignored him, and Durbin seemed defeated and deflated. He never raised his voice to even match Patel simply talking over him. Patel insulted and mocked Durbin, and Durbin did not even challenge him on it. That is what is causing people to leave the party or not vote for democrats. At least the progressive are willing to take on the other side and challenge them. The older members of the elected party are stuck in the 1990s mindset and not able to handle the political situation of today. I mention Chuck Schumer a lot because he is the highest elected leader of the party and he is as uninspiring a speaker as can be. 2 minutes into any speech by him and you are asleep. He is into the rules and laws of the Senate, not the political needs of the people.

It’s how I feel. Please don’t stop posting them if they work for you, Scottie. Ali I wrote all I did above because I do value your opinions and feelings. In this case I think you are missing the large amount of dissatisfaction I am seeing on political podcasts and writings. As for posting I only stop posting something if I find out it is not true or that it is harmful to a specific groups who do not deserve it or have earned the harm it might do them. If you notice I do not post general anti-Christian anti-religious stuff much even though I am an atheist. That is because it is harmful to the good Christians and religious people who come here. I do not want to unfairly smear them. I do post about hate preachers and those using their religion to harm others as I don’t feel they are “Christians” in good faith.

Again if I do post something incorrect I do hope that is pointed out so I can correct my mistake. As I said before differences of opinion don’t bother me nor frighten me. I like to hear others views. I feel others have a right to their views as much as I have a right to mine. I do not believe everyone must walk in lock step in the world and be the same. I have always felt it is my place to inform and correct misinformation, I do not feel it my place to force anyone to believe as I do.

One last part of your comment I would love to address even though this is long. But I feel you deserve the time and attention. And the farmers, this time, because MR isn’t doing them any favors by only jumping on it just now. MR ought to contribute big to Farm Aid; that would actually help. I don’t understand your reasoning on this. They are not jumping on right now, for as long as I have listened they have explained how the farmers have been hurt by politics. They explained that the budget cuts and foreign aid cuts hurt the farmers. A lot of people don’t understand the connection to things such as food assistance, SNAP, and school lunches along with the aid programs connect to the farmers. The show routinely has a farmer on from Nebraska who calls in all the time to give the Ag report for the show. He talks about the various things concerning the farmers and their crops from climate change to the political situation. I feel that by pointing it out in their broadcasts they are helping because it is getting the situation these people are in to the public. As with most of their reporting you have to understand a lot of people are not into this stuff day in and out like we are. Ron likes news and I still manage to inform him of stuff he did not hear yet. Even those of us “plugged in” to news often get different news stories from different sources that have different biases and highlighting different aspects of the situation. Thanks for the comment. Hugs
