Platner Is CRUSHING Maine’s Senate Primary

I know about the ginned up outrage dragged up by the Mills campaign.  The dozens of years ago old Reddit posts that Platner responded to head on, explained, and I have seen him with women around him and he doesn’t act like a misogynist. He doesn’t try to justify the comments and denounces them.  He does explain the mindset at the time he wrote them.  A man in a male dominated macho military infantry unit who had been in combat was letting off steam in writing, not acting physically.  He doesn’t believe that stuff now but the internet is a forever machine.  He has changed from that angry young man into a thoughtful adult.  If I were in Maine I could clearly see what he brings to the table vrs what Mills does.  I strongly support Platner.  Hugs

  1. Well, it’s Maine’s election, so it’s their decision. That said, the misogyny situation is not ginned up. Things have happened, some recently. Everyone who is concerned should do their own research and make their own decisions. It’s still a world where no one believes women even when they have DNA evidence (not saying that’s this situation so relax!) and that offends most thinking women.

I know Janet Mills is old. And she’s not a big liberal, but neither is Platner. Thing is, we know Janet Mills’s work. Platner is unprove, and no one wants another situation like we got with Fetterman. Personally, I haven’t seen enough of him addressing the situations in which Platner has put himself that have upset women, nor have I seen remorse. The guys who are pushing him because he’s young just want us to let it go and wait and see. I’m not in Maine, so it doesn’t matter how I feel about it. Except that we should not build up men who want to run for office, excuse them when “things” come up, then end up, again, with a Jon Fetterman or a Bill Clinton.

Meanwhile, there are worse guys running as Dems when they’re actually Republican and have reported to their donors that they will perform as the Republicans they are. That story showed up for a day or two, (not on MR,) and then sort of petered out. Lets have more journalism about that!

    1. Hi Ali. I wrote a long detailed reply and then got really tired, forgot it, restarted the computer and lost it. Arnt you glad? 😂🤣😋😀 So I will try to keep this reply shorter and more on point.

Ok I remember clearly defending your right to weigh in on the Maine election due to the fact it is not a local one but this is for the federal senate meaning it can affect you how he votes. I feel the same for my voice on this. As for his reddit comments he did address them in a clip played on The Majority Report that I did post. He did admit to writing them, explained the time and situation he was in when he did, that he was recently out of the military from a combat unit. He disavowed the things he wrote, he claimed he didn’t believe that, and he also said he would stand against that which he wrote. He took responsibility.

As for people not believing women, try being a gay man in a police station trying to press rape charges against a woman to a straight cop. I had friends get a beating from the cops for it. But you are correct. Yet Janet Mills vetoed and delayed a bill that would require the processing of rape kits in a timely manner. She said she vetoed it because she did not like how the bill was pushed through the legislature meaning she did not like the people who wrote and pressed for it. I also don’t like how she won’t do in-person town halls or meetings. Platner does and draws huge crowds while hers barely have any people and the one I seen the clips of the people there were not supportive of her. Every clip I have seen of her is defensive and angry.

Lastly I am not sure of what you mean by the guys pushing him wanting to just wait and see what comes. I don’t see it that way and I am an old guy pushing for him. I see it as strategic. I understand he is young, energetic, and claims he won’t be bought by special interest groups and lobbying. He can start building seniority which is what Collins’s big talking point is, she has seniority and is on the appropriations committee, so she can bring back goodies. Mills has already promised to serve one six year term so she is starting at the bottom and anyone who follows her will be starting at the bottom. Platner will have six years under his belt. I did hear of several republicans in different areas running as democrats. I have posted some. The problem Republicans have is they want to rule not represent the people. Their goals and ideas are unpopular so they have to resort to cheating and voter suppression to win. They can’t run on their policies so they run fake campaigns. They have gerrymandered so tightly only the most hardcore right wingers can win in those districts and no democrats have a chance to win. Also voter suppression laws like the SAVE act and restricting voting places such as no longer allowing campus voting or not allowing student IDs anymore. But you already know all that.

Believe it or not this is far shorter than the first one I wrote. I told you I went into detail with the first one. I’m glad I lost it before it got sent. It was an essay legnth production you really did not need. Please send me any information about Platner I may be missing. I do take mistreatment of women and misogyny seriously. And there may be stuff I am not seeing. But from what I have seen he seems to have dealt with it to my satisfaction that he is no longer that person. Hugs

      1. Well, as I said, you are entitled to your opinion, as are people who are discomfited by what you’ve seen as a fact that Platner may have expressed some sort of remorse on TMR. Many guys watch that. There is a good reason why many women don’t. It’s a lot to explain, and I don’t want to get into an argument about this.
Janet Mills’s problem, for you, I believe (and likely am wrong!) is that Schumer pushed her into running. Her vetoes have to do with her office of governor, which is not the same as a legislator, many of whom don’t know how to write law. She has also written law. She wants to be governor, but Sen. Schumer prevailed upon her to run. This is not on Janet Mills.
I’m only saying, be careful about supporting a person because they’re young, they aren’t endorsed by Schumer or other moderate politicos, and they’re a guy. He’s got little experience, yet wants to jump right into being a Dem Senator. I’d like to see him do a little work in the party to make sure he’s a Dem, and also to begin a little lower and learn the job. before running.
As to further info, I haven’t collected it, only read it over time. But I posted an article by someone who put it together, the day after this article and my comments.
Again, everyone is entitled to their opinions. I just really wish people would check into everything before deciding what to believe because a person they admire or a show they prefer endorses them.
You should broaden your viewing horizon if all you’ve ever seen of Janet Mills is anger. Seriously. I’ve never seen her like that, though I’m sure she does get angry.

        1. Hi Ali. I already replied to something you posted with his long detailed explanation of his comments and what he wrote then is not the person he is now. People can change you know. People can grow. I will post the link to the news article again for you. I would ask you to read it. It is definitely not the person you have portrayed to me. Please notice the date, this was done last year so it is not something new he is doing. https://www.nbcboston.com/news/local/maine-senate-race-graham-platner-apologizes-social-media-comments/3829723/

I am not supporting Platner because I dislike Schumer. I am not basing my dislike of Mills only on her association with Schumer. I like Platner’s platform, what he supports and what he doesn’t support. I like how he deals with people and that he does his town halls in person. I do like that he is younger than the gentrified age of the current corporate leaders of both parties. Mills’s age is something I don’t like. I don’t think we need an other older person who may suffer from health issues or simply is unable to understand the needs of the current society. She doesn’t do inperson town halls and voter meetings. Why? Is she unable to travel? And the few clips I have seen of her town halls have not shown her in a favorable light. They are sparsely attended, and the people are antagonistic toward her. One clip I saw the guy was someone who had worked with her on something and she greeted him as if he was her supporter. But he criticized her on several issues. The clips I have seen of her she is defensive instead of engaging. If Mills was the only choice to Collins I would choose her. But I think we have a better choice in Platner.

As for experience, yes she has been a governor but that doesn’t mean she will be a good legislator. You keep telling me people need to be more involved in the political system. Well Platner is trying his best to do what he thinks is best for the country. In a system that respects seniority she will only serve one term and we will be having an election with no incumbent. Freshmen in congress rarely get much done and few bills passed. She will cost Maine 6 years of wasted time for seniority.

I think everyone has the right to support the candidate that most represents their positions. I am a progressive. Platner is a progressive. Mills is a corporate Democrat. I think corporate democrats need to be replaced. Hugs
