Let’s talk about Day 5 of the hearings….

Let’s talk about the pardon requests….

Let’s talk about what they’re going after next….

Let’s talk about unpacking the Supreme Court decision…

Let’s talk about the objection to unpacking the court….

In Concurring Roe Opinion, Clarence Thomas Calls For Overturning Obergefell, Lawrence, And Griswold Rulings

And it starts.   We knew this was coming.   Doesn’t he realize his own marriage is also going to be illegal if we return to the 1950’s?   These wealthy or religious people on the court don’t think the police are bad because they won’t be affected by bad cops, like congress they won’t be affected by the rulings they make.   These people have the idea that they are the elite and are above the laws the laws the rest of us must follow   Why would they worry about guns flooding the country, the first-time people peacefully protested near their homes they got congress to immediately pass a law against it enforced by the very police they constantly protect from any civilian threats, even though congress cannot pass laws that protect school kids from mass shootings.   9 court justices got a law passed right away no delay; many kids killed so what.   This is no longer a country governed by the people for the people, it is corporations ruling over government to support profit at all costs.    Ron and I have made sure our passports are up to date and we will be using our funds to move as soon as sex between consenting same sex couples are illegal and our marriage becomes a joke in Florida, the home of the desperate to president maga “Don’t say gay” attack Disney for being too tolerant DeathSantis makes us gays illegal.   Oh yes that is the same DeathSantis that recently tried to say with a straight face that Florida wouldn’t tolerate attacks on gay people as he celebrated the Pulse night club massacre.   This is on every tRump voter.   This is on every Republican voter.    This is on every religious person who voted for the Republican over the Democrat.    Thank you to each and every one of you for rolling the country back to the 1950s to enjoy your superiority.   Now give up your cell phones, smart TV’s, internet, GPS, and all the science advances, give up all the medical advances, just go back to live in that regressive world you assholes because you don’t deserve to live with the rest of us.   Thanks for putting the rights of others on the chopping block so you could have your god in everyone’s life and your fucking tax breaks so corporations and wealthy people pay nothing while the public work 3 or 4 jobs 60 to 80 hours a week to pay the corporate rent and buy food to eat.   Fuck this country.   By the way think you are a citizen because you were born in the US, that is also on the chopping block that many hard right conservatives want to get rid of.       Hugs

From Clarence Thomas’s concurring opinion:

The Court’s abortion cases are unique, see ante, at 31–32, 66, 71–72, and no party has asked us to decide “whether our entire Fourteenth Amendment jurisprudence must be preserved or revised,” McDonald, 561 U. S., at 813 (opinion of THOMAS, J.).

Thus, I agree that “[n]othing in [the Court’s] opinion should be understood to cast doubt on precedents that do not concern abortion.” Ante, at 66.

For that reason, in future cases, we should reconsider all of this Court’s substantive due process precedents, including Griswold, Lawrence, and Obergefell.

Curiously, no mention of “Loving v. Virginia.” How convenient for him and Ginni.

Honestly, I don’t think he cares. Republicans are so blinded by their hate that they never think through how their actions might somehow affect themselves.

Ed B Elagabalus • 2 hours ago

That doesn’t mean someone or some group won’t try to overturn that. Remember, the conservative majority doesn’t *need* Thomas to accomplish its goals.

Women, we fought hard for our liberation. We will have to do it again.
LGBTQI+ brothers, sisters, and allies, we fought hard to safeguard our rights and lives during the AIDS epidemic. We will have to do it again.

We have it in us. Everyone else, join us or get the fuck out of our way.

Trump Writhes With Anger While Hate-Watching January 6th Hearings

According to sources, Donald Trump is hate-watching the January 6 committee hearings, filled with rage at the fact that no one is defending him in the trial. Ana Kasparian and Aida Rodriguez discuss on The Young Turks. Watch LIVE weekdays 6-8 pm ET.

“Former President Donald Trump is hate-watching the January 6 committee hearings, incensed because he believes nobody is defending him, according to The Washington Post.

Trump is at “the point of about to scream at the TV” as he tunes in to each hearing, one unnamed close advisor told the paper.

Another in his circle, also unnamed, told the paper that Trump continually complains that “there’s no one to defend me” at the hearings, which have attracted huge amounts of media coverage.

A person familiar with the situation denied this to Insider, saying: “This is not true. He has barely watched any of the hearings at all.””

NY Gov Blasts “Shocking” SCOTUS Ruling On Guns

The right to have a gun without being in a militia or military was a new right created by gun lover Anton Scalia and even he said there were some limits.     That is the meaning of activist judges, he loved guns and played with guns and wanted guns freely taken everywhere.   But now  the SCOTUS are removing any restrictions based on a mythical romanticized verson of what the US was and founded to be.  The fact is for all of US history guns were very tightly controlled, they were not just carried by everyone everywhere.   It was not that way.   Those myths of the wild west of gun touting people shooting everywhere and people like the rifle man solving all the problem is not real and is a stupid fantasy.  The SCOTUS is an ideology driven group that is going to cause the entire country to crash and burn.   All to push a religious ideology.   Scary.   Hugs

Spectrum News has the transcript:

Does everyone understand what a concealed weapon means? That you have no forewarning. That someone can hide a weapon on them and go into our subways, go into our grocery stores, like stores up in Buffalo, New York, where I’m from. Go into a school in Parkland or Uvalde, This could place millions of New Yorkers in harm’s way.

As governor of the state of New York, my number one priority is to keep New Yorkers safe, but today the Supreme Court is sending us backwards in our efforts to protect families and prevent gun violence.

And it’s particularly painful that this came down at this moment, when we are still dealing with families in pain from mass shootings that have occurred, the loss of life, their beloved children and grandchildren.

I’m prepared to call the Legislature back into session to deal with this. We’ve been in contact with leadership — we’re just looking at dates — but I will say, we are not powerless in this situation.

We’re not going to cede our rights that easily, despite the best efforts of the politicized Supreme Court of the United States of America.

This decision isn’t just reckless, it’s reprehensible. It’s not what New Yorkers want, and we should have the right of determination of what we want to do in terms of our gun laws in our state.

Michigan Republican lawmaker wants Jan. 6 declared ‘Remembrance Day’

https://www.detroitnews.com/story/news/politics/2022/06/21/michigan-republican-wants-jan-6-declared-remembrance-day/7686563001/

A Michigan Republican lawmaker proposed a resolution Tuesday to declare Jan. 6 as “Remembrance Day,” stating it should be recognized “for the heinous and tyrannical actions levied on society by an unhinged and politically motivated ruling elite.”

State Rep. Steve Carra, R-Three Rivers, introduced the resolution during Tuesday’s session, when it was referred the House Rules and Competitiveness Committee, where unpopular policy proposals usually stall out. It came as the Democrat-led U.S. House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol is scheduled to continue holding public hearings on what led to the insurrection in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 6, 2021. A fourth hearing was held Tuesday afternoon.

State Rep. Steve Carra gives a thumbs up after a demonstrator asked him to give a thumbs up if he wanted an audit of the 2020 election on Thursday, June 17, 2021, in Lansing.

The riot at the Capitol, as Congress met to count electoral votes, “was one of the darkest days of our democracy” and resulted in multiple deaths and physical harm to more than 140 members of law enforcement, according to the select committee.

But the resolution Carra is proposing attempts to tie the events of Jan. 6, 2021, to “the tyrannical actions of the government over the past two years,” including “unconstitutional mandates” connected to the COVID-19 pandemic and parents being “prevented from participating in their children’s education.”

The resolution’s main claim is “blatantly not true,” said state Rep. Joe Tate, D-Detroit. Jan. 6, 2021, led to people dying and was an effort to overthrow democratic institutions, Tate said.

However, Carra’s resolution asks the Republican-controlled House to “blame a few rogue and malicious agitators, a small fraction of passionate individuals from the crowd in attendance for the rally who got caught up in the moment, and most importantly a lack of proper security on-site, for the damage that was done on Jan. 6, 2021.”

The resolution also says the Federal Bureau of Investigation “improperly raided” the home of Republican gubernatorial hopeful Ryan Kelley on June 9. Kelley of Allendale was charged with four misdemeanors tied to his involvement in the riot at the Capitol, including disorderly and disruptive conduct. Kelley has said he didn’t enter the Capitol building.

Carra has previously been endorsed by former President Donald Trump. Carra ended a past campaign for Congress days after Trump gave his “complete and total” endorsement to his Republican primary opponent, U.S. Rep. Bill Huizenga of Holland.

The U.S. House select committee has found the events of Jan. 6, 2021, were part of an attempt by Trump to remain in power after losing the November 2020 presidential election.

Carra, a former staffer at the “Christian/libertarian” Acton Institute think tank, is an anti-vaxxer. He dropped his bid for the US House earlier this year after Trump endorsed someone else.

The evil is so blatant and so “not in the closet” anymore, it’s amazing.

Sociologists and political scientists must be in awe of what the country is undergoing today. When was the last time in American history they or we saw anything like this?

AyJayDee another_steve • 5 hours ago • edited

Some pretty evil shit has happened on US soil – slavery, genocide of Native Americans, Jim Crow, etc. But it really is unprecedented in our history for things to not simply go in reverse like “one step forward, two steps back,” but for a whole one-third or more of the public to embrace full-blown fascism while another large percentage – maybe itself constituting one-third – is ready to let it happen.

MTG: Unseat All Republicans Who Back Gun Reform Bill

For me the worst thing was the gaslighting by Marge Greene.   She claims that she and her all guns all time crew represent the people.    But the people disagree, all the polling shows the public wants gun regulations and controls.   But hey I guess the only members of the public that count anymore are the maga members.   Those are the parents that get a say in what is taught in schools, no other parents, maga are the only ones that get to vote now, maga thugs seem to make life hell for any other group in public, maga seems to be running the CBP (Customs and Border Patrol) and maga seems to be running most police departments.    So we are now being told, the only republican voters that count are maga voters.    Hugs

“These are Republican senators that Republican voters do not support any more. We’ve got to change our Republican Party and needs to happen right here. Because if we don’t start defending Americans’ freedoms and rights and putting America first, our Republican voters are not going to want to put us in charge.” – Marjorie Taylor Greene, after reading the names of the 14 GOP Senators who last night voted to advance the bipartisan gun reform package. Standing with MTG were Lauren Boebert, Paul Gosar, Thomas Massie, and other extremist Freedom Caucus members.
