Protesters hit The Strip

While a huge crowd was gathering in Fair Park for the first day of Dallas Pride weekend and the Miller Lite Music Festival, a handful of right-wingers hit The Strip on Cedar Springs today (Saturday, June 4)  to protest …. well, something.

The protesters reportedly gathered first in front of Mr. Misster, at the corner of Cedar Springs Road and Reagan Street before Dallas police officers forced them to move across Reagan to the sidewalk in front of the fire station.

Activist Cannon Brown, who was at the scene, said the protesters were there to rally against a drag queen story hour happening at Mr. Misster. “They were there to scream at kids,” Brown said on Facebook, noting that some were Roman Catholics who were “actually behaved and just chanting the rosary. It’s the Infowars/fascist crowd that is problematic.”

The group, described by Brown in a Facebook post as “christofascists,” carried signs vaguely resembling the Texas flag and the U.S. flag along with a large white flag with some sort of X symbol in red, and a gold-and-white flag with some symbol in the center. The size of the group has changed over the course of their protest, but Brown said it averaged about 20.

Photos show one protester carrying a sign declaring “confuse a child, abuse a child,” and another had a sign shouting “stop groomers.” Yet another demands, “Stop exploiting our kids.” And, in what is apparently a swipe at the rainbow power of Pride Month, one woman wore a black T-shirt with a block of rainbow colors saying “rainbow revival.”

From Joe My God the right wing religious bigots couldn’t resist lying.

A spokesperson for the extremists claimed to Dallas’s ABC News affiliate that police removed children from show. That didn’t happen. The bar reports having gotten hundreds of threatening emails. Some of the tweets below are from far-right extremists.

I want to respond to the religious asshole in the above video.   He starts out making a claim about doing something to between boys legs, then he makes a comment about letting children near men in dresses.   Has this pious asshole threatening parents with children which is traumatizing the kids ever looked at the pictures in his church?  What does he think Jesus and the disciples wore, three piece suits?

Jesus and Small children

So I do not want to hear anything more about men in dresses talking with or reading to kids.

The psychosis in America is deepening.

If they didn’t blame us they would have to face the fact that they have been enabling child predators in the name of their worthless non-existent god. Introspection isn’t their strong suit.

Hell, if these folks didn’t have external targets to focus their hate and measure their “moral superiority” against, they would be tearing each other apart. (I’ve seen it first hand.)

Lol, what was your first hint. Maybe the fact that 75% of rethuglicunts actually believe that the election was stolen! Proof positive that if you say a lie enough times it is believed regardless of facts. This is the same ploy they are using to paint the LGBTQ community as those grooming children to become gay. As if it were a fucking choice in the first place! All the while they hand over their kids to the real groomers, the churches, where they are indoctrinated and scarred mentally for life by the daily harrowing experiences they are forced to endure by the church community. What is worse is that the people they most should be able to rely on for protection, their family, are the very ones that force them into it! Seriously hating what this country is becoming.

14 Shot, 3 Dead, in Mass Shooting on South Street

https://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/news/local/14-shot-3-dead-in-mass-shooting-on-south-street/3261464/

Why do we have to accept this?   If people cannot go out safely there will be no more economy and no more USA.   I watched a Republican in Congress use his time at the gun hearing to show a bunch of guns he claims to won and that restricting the magazine sizes would make the guns illegal.   That is wrong because the gun manufacturers would design small magazines that will fit those guns.   But he went on about his rights, the rules would take his rights, he would lose his freedom.   What the hell did the kids shot in their schools lose?  Did they have a right to live or the right to freedom?  What did the shoppers in Buffalo lose, did they lose their freedoms when they were shot to death?  What do the rest of us in the US lose when we are afraid to leave our homes because we may be shot?   What does every school kid lose that has nightmares and is afraid that this school day will be their last?  I am tired of a small minority that believes their right is to make the rest of us live in fear or face death and harm.   That is not a civil society.   Also notice another time police were right there, and people were still shot.  Plus even though relatively close the officer still missed.   Think of untrained armed bystanders all yanking their pistols out and starting firing?    Hugs

An officer saw several gunmen firing into a crowd of people on South Street in Philadelphia shortly before midnight, police said. That officer then fired his gun at one of the shooters

At least 14 people were shot, three of them killed, when gunmen fired into a crowd on a popular stretch of South Street in Philadelphia late Saturday night.

It happened on South Street between 2nd and 3rd streets shortly before midnight. Hundreds of people were out enjoying the night when officers said they heard multiple gunshots, then saw several gunmen firing into a crowd.

An officer fired his gun at one of the shooters, Philadelphia Police Inspector D. F. Pace said. It is not known if the suspect was struck; however, they did drop their gun and flee.

The officer was “within 10 to 15 yards of the shooter, watching this person shoot into the crowd” when he decided to engage, Pace said.

At least 14 people were struck by the barrage of gunfire, police said. Three of them, two men and a woman, were shot multiple times and died at the hospital.

“Once again, we see lives senselessly lost and those injured in yet another horrendous, brazen and despicable act of gun violence,” Mayor Jim Kenney said in a written statement Sunday morning. “My heart is with the family, friends, loved ones of those lost or injured, and with everyone impacted by this terrible tragedy.

South Street is a popular area in Philadelphia lined with restaurants, shops and bars. It is highly trafficked among both locals and tourists.

“There were hundreds of individuals just enjoying South Street, as they do every weekend, when this shooting broke out,” Pace said.

Pace said two guns were found at the scene, one of them with an extended magazine.

The search for the gunmen continued Sunday morning, police said. One of the shooters was last seen running south on American Street between 2nd and 3rd streets.

Police are hoping businesses along South Street captured the shooting on surveillance video.

“I want to emphasize that South Street is manned by numerous police officers,” Pace said. “This is standard deployment for Friday and Saturday night – weekends – and especially during the summer months.”

Philadelphia police said a separate shooting incident happened nearby around 11 p.m. Officers found 13 bullet casings at 4th and Bainbridge, a couple blocks away. Pace said investigators are looking into whether there’s a connection in the two shootings.

Last Tuesday, video captured the moments a woman and other gunmen opened fire on the 400 block of South Street – less than two blocks away from Saturday night’s shooting. One man was injured.

“Furious. I am furious, not just for my neighborhood, for the whole country. If I hear one more time ‘thoughts and prayers’ – bull—,” neighbor Maureen Long said through tears. “We cannot disagree about this. We have to do something. I don’t care what your political leanings are. We can’t continue to let people kill people.”

The Saturday shooting in Philadelphia is just the latest in a spate of mass shootings across the country.

In Buffalo, New York, a gunman killed 10 Black people and wounded three others at a supermarket in what authorities said was a racially motivated attack.  In Uvalde, Texas, another gunman killed 19 children and two teachers at Robb Elementary School. In Oklahoma, a man killed four people and wounded several others inside a Tulsa medical building.

Data from the nonprofit Gun Violence Archive show that gun violence deaths more than doubled nationwide from 2018 to 2019, when such deaths totaled 39,572.

In the years since, gun violence deaths have only increased. There were 43,658 such deaths in 2020 and 44,957 in 2021, according to the GVA. Thus far in 2022, there have been at least 18,564 deaths related to gun violence across the United States, according to the group.

In Philadelphia, the toll of gun violence is not reserved to isolated mass shootings, however.

A gun violence tracker from the city controller’s office tallied 743 nonfatal and 188 fatal shooting victims as of June 2. Several shootings have occurred in the days since, with the number of fatal and nonfatal victims both sure to rise.

Shootings have accounted for the most killings in Philadelphia this year. The slight bit of positive news amid the carnage, though, is that killings as of Saturday night were at 211, down from the 225 seen at the same time in 2021, which finished as the year with the most murders since the city first began keeping record.

The recent high-profile shootings, though, have renewed calls for stricter gun control amid rising gun violence across the country.

President Joe Biden on Thursday acknowledged there is little left for him to do through executive action and called on Congress to pass legislation to tighten gun laws. While the Uvalde shooting renewed bipartisan talks about modest gun reforms, such talks have broken down in the past.

Meanwhile, legislators in Philadelphia are barred by Pennsylvania’s preemption law from enacting gun control statutes that are stricter than state laws.

“We cannot accept continued violence as a way of life in our country. Until we address the availability and ease of access to firearms, we will always be fighting an uphill battle,” Kenney said in his statement. “As Mayor, I will continue to fight to protect our communities and urge others to advocate for stronger laws that keep guns out of the hands of violent individuals.”

Watch All In With Chris Hayes Highlights: June 3

The first ten minutes of this show are incredible.   Chris Hayes details the threats VP Pence was under and how his people suspected tRump would turn on Pence including trying to have him taken out / removed from the capital.  I understood why Pence and his wife never went home after they left Washington and they moved constantly staying with friends and supporters.    Many people are not aware or are forgetful of trump’s connections to organized crime figures.  Pence was clearly worried that tRump or his supporters would still try to kill him.   But with him removed from the capital the plan was to have Grassley or another senior Republican simply give the election to trump in the way the Eastland memo details.  In fact Grassley did say he would be presiding over the certification then he managed to not even show up himself.  Think he was warned of the insurrection ahead of time?  The whole show is worth watching but the first ten minutes are very informative.   Hugs

GOP Rep Abruptly Drops Reelection Bid After Days Of Far-Right Backlash For Backing Assault Weapons Ban

This is why no Republican will stand up for any reasonable gun control measures.   Their base is rabid gun sexuals, and their big money donors are demanding they kill any restrictions on their profits.   So when one Republican stood up for a small restriction to save lives, they threw him out of the party.   Hugs

First, this from the New York Post:

The Republican and Conservative parties are leaving GOP Rep. Chris Jacobs for dead following his call for a federal ban on assault weapons in response to the massacre by an avowed white supremacist in Buffalo.

“This is not the person we endorsed. We did not endorse this Chris Jacobs … he’s actually to the left of [US House Speaker] Nancy Pelosi on this,” Conservative Party state Chair Gerard Kassar told the Post Thursday about his party withdrawing support for Jacobs’ reelection.

The embattled Erie congressman has incurred the wrath of of his party’s far right since saying last week he would support an assault weapons ban, raising the age to purchase semi-automatic rifles and limiting ammunition capacity in gun magazines.

And below is the result of his stand. Jacobs, not incidentally, voted against certifying the result of the 2020 presidential election and against both of Trump’s impeachments.

And this is what happens to so-called “moderate Republicans,” which is why they no longer exist.

I just can’t understand how or why gun control has become such a political football. I do know that the Repig Senators and Reps do their best to preserve all the money that the NRA and gun manufacturers give them to help keep them in office. The Repigs in DC are really a purchased party. “The People? Who are they?” “The money? Now you’re talk’in my language.”

Wisconsin Judge Killed By Apparent Militia Member, Dem Governor Reportedly Also On Hit List Of Officials

This is the right wing today.  They are a gang of thugs.   This is why they love bullies like DeathSantis and tRump.  These people think forcing everyone to do as they command / demand is acceptable, might make it right.   They don’t want gun control, civil rights, or any cooperative tolerant society because it removes their power to rule over others.   Hugs

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports:

A 68-year-old man was shot and killed in a targeted attack in his home in New Lisbon early Friday. Sources told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel the victim was retired Juneau County Judge John Roemer, who retired from the bench in 2017.

Attorney General Josh Kaul said the assailant appeared to be targeting others as well. Sources told the Journal Sentinel that Gov. Tony Evers was among them, but Kaul declined to provide any names during a brief news conference in Mauston.

“The individual who’s a suspect appears to have had other targets as well, appears to be related to the judicial system,” Kaul said. Those names are not being released at this time, Kaul said, but the other targets have been notified.

Wisconsin Public Radio reports:

A source close to the investigation tells WTMJ’s John Mercure the 56-year-old suspect was part of a militia and he had with him a hit list that included the names of several elected officials including Governor Tony Evers. When asked if they were notified of the apparent threat, the Governor’s Office said they do not comment on specific threats or the governor’s security detail.

Following a failed attempt to negotiate with a person inside the home, the Juneau County Special Tactics and Response Team entered the residence and located the homeowner, a 68 year old man deceased. A 56 year old man, identified as the suspect, was located in the basement with an apparent self inflicted gunshot wound. He was alive and has since been transported to a hospital.

A friend of mine worked at the Friend of the Court, making child custody decisions. He had to use a different name to list his house and phone number (back when we had landlines) for fear of retaliation from the losing parent.

So then John Mercure, the 56-year-old suspect, was part of a (not so well) regulated militia of which the Second Amendment of the U.S. constitution speaks.

Brad Bailey • 11 hours ago • edited

This is a violent criminal who should be locked up to protect society. But militia membership or no, once you’re in the criminal justice system, you’re in it for life. I was arrested on a non-violent drug charge 50 years ago, and every time I’m stopped or have to interact with the police, that charge comes up. There’s no such thing as a reformed criminal in the eyes of the law. Once a criminal, always a criminal, until the day you die.
