A New Study Shows Conservative Fears of “Transition Regret” Are Overblown

https://www.them.us/story/transition-regret-percentage-overblown-study

One of the things the anti-trans people like to push is the myth that many kids who identify as a different gender than the one assigned at birth simply grow out of it.   Their idea is these kids are brainwashed or conned into thinking they are a different gender.   That is wrong.   I had that idea pushed by an anti-trans person here on my blog and it did manage to create confusion and misinform some of my viewers.   I have made every effort to point out the truth of the situation, that what the right wing is pushing is a lie.   Science and real research show that about 98% of kids who have a different gender identification from birth assigned gender maintain that and are happy they transitioned.   That shoots down one of the biggest talking points of the TERFs and other anti-trans bigots.   If you are on the fence about trans issues because you doubt that gender identification can be different than assigned at birth gender, then you are part of the ones that claim that sexual orientation / attraction is a choice and a phase kids go through.   Just as time and medical studies have shown how completely wrong that is and that sexual attraction is a spectrum, the same is true with gender identification being separate from birth gender.   If you think it is being over blown because you are a cis straight person who did not have an issue with your gender or sexual orientation, think about how that is like a white person saying they think racism towards black people is over blown because you never felt it directed towards you in your life.   Hugs

In a large patient pool, 98% of trans youth who took puberty blockers ended up choosing hormone therapy.

The study, published October 20 in The Lancet, a prestigious and long-running medical journal, reviewed information from the Amsterdam Cohort of Gender Dysphoria about trans patients who took puberty blockers before turning 18. Researchers examined the medical records of 720 patients at Amsterdam UMC’s Center for Expertise on Gender Dysphoria who had historically received at least three months of puberty blockers as minors, and attempted to determine how many of those patients had an active prescription for hormone replacement therapy on file as of December 31, 2018.

Of the entire cohort, 704 were found to have active HRT prescriptions at the end of the data collection period — a massive 98% of the patients analyzed.

As for the remaining 2%, researchers cautioned that the absence of data doesn’t mean they necessarily returned to identifying with their gender assigned at birth; most of those 16 had undergone some form of gonadectomy as part of their transition-related care, researchers noted, and may not realize they still need hormone treatment to avoid osteoporosis or other conditions. Others could be nonbinary and not desire further hormonal treatment, or may have been pressured into halting treatment by outside stressors, such as unaccepting family members.

“I think it’s an important finding because we see that most of these people continue to use gender-affirming hormones,” said Marianne van der Loos, the paper’s lead author and a physician at Amsterdam UMC’s gender identity clinic, in an interview with NPR.

Her clinic emphasizes mental health care as a part of transitioning, van der Loos explained, so due to that support, “it’s not really surprising that so many people continue to [receive] treatment later on.” (Conversely, an American Medical Association report in February confirmed that lack of access to puberty blockers or hormone therapy was strongly correlated with poor mental health and suicidal ideation among trans youth.)

The Amsterdam study’s findings affirm previous research into the persistence of gender identity among trans youth, and illustrate some of the challenges in identifying why a small number of people halt or reverse their medical transitions. Another study of over 300 young people from the Princeton Trans Youth Project published in May indicated that around 97.5% persisted in identifying as trans and/or nonbinary at the end of a five-year study period.

These studies increasingly demonstrate that the ongoing conservative freakout over gender identity and trans “desistance” is, at best, a massive overreaction. In an interview on liberal comedian Jon Stewart’s show The Problem earlier this month, Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge claimed that 98% of gender-dysphoric youth will eventually identify as cisgender — not only an “incredibly made-up” statistic, as Stewart noted, but per the Amsterdam and Princeton studies, precisely the inverse of what is true.

As trans youth around the world face opposition to their medical needs due to cisgender politicians’ ignorance and bigotry, it’s important to have as much information about our lived experiences as possible. The reality is that trans kids aren’t a “social contagion,” nor are they sad, deluded teenagers; they’re just young people who deserve care and support, like everyone else.

‘Former detransitioner’ Ky Schevers on rebuilding her life after falling for ‘cult-like’ TERFs

Three silhouettes in the colours of the trans flag

‘Detransition’ refers to when a trans person returns to living as the gender they were assigned at birth. (PinkNews)

Ky Schevers was confused about her gender, and detransitioned after being “sucked in” by “gender-critical feminism”. Now, she’s rebuilding her life.

Schevers, who is transmasculine, genderqueer and uses she/ her pronouns, began medical transition by taking testosterone when she was 20, after coming out as a trans man.

But Schevers soon realized that her gender wasn’t binary.

“I had tried living as a more binary trans guy but that didn’t really work out, and I felt more genderqueer,” she tells PinkNews. “Then I thought I felt more like a butch dyke, and I kind of wanted to explore that part of myself.”

Looking for support, she turned to online forums.

“I was expressing these doubts and in a psychologically vulnerable place.”

She was approached by a woman who Schevers describes as “fairly TERFy” (TERF stands for trans exclusionary radical feminist) and had, like her, been reading some content online about detransition.

“I feel like we both got sucked in towards transphobic or gender-critical feminism because, firstly, those are the people who were trying to latch on to stories [like ours],” Schevers explains.

“It kind of made sense to me, like I wasn’t sure how to reclaim the female or butch parts of myself without drawing on some of the stories I’d already heard – that there’s pressure on butch lesbians to transition, or they’re transitioning because of internalized misogyny.”

Over the next few years, Schevers descended down an anti-trans rabbit hole. She found a community in circles of detransitioned radical “feminists”, and was held up as an example of transness being a result of internalized misogyny, homophobia and trauma.

She recalls holding a workshop at the trans-exclusionary Michigan Womyn’s Music Festival, known as Michfest.

“It was very well-attended a whole lot of TERFy lesbians who showed up to hear about the poor lesbians who got sucked in… they just ate that up. Now looking back, I can see I got love-bombed, there was lots of positive attention.”

Schevers describes this sense of community and support as “intoxicating”, and adds: “It felt like we were doing this important work, and helping people. A lot of us had gone through this sort of intense conversion experience, converting to this particular interpretation of radical feminism, lesbian feminism.

“But I feel like most of us were in some kind of real distress and believing in this stuff felt good. We did find connection with each other, we were just connecting over transphobic beliefs and also, I would say, self-harm.”

It was very cult-like, it was very controlling.

Schevers is clear that there is nothing wrong with detransition, and that everyone’s journey of gender discovery is different. The problem is that when those people search for support, they are more often than not finding radicalised, anti-trans communities to lean on.

“This is one of the reasons I feel like there needs to be more talk about these issues outside of transphobic groups, if they’re the only people talking about it, it’s easier for people to get sucked in and radicalized and end up believing a bunch of transphobic crap.”

The process of extricating herself from the group she found herself embedded in was gradual, Schevers says: “It was very cult-like, it was very controlling. It’s one of those things where it’s easy to join the group, harder to leave.”

Once, before she even admitted to herself that she wanted to get out, she happened to attend a book reading by a gay man who had been through conversion therapy.

“The way he described his experiences resonated with me,” she says.

“A light bulb went off, but I was also like, ‘Oh, s**t.’ You don’t necessarily want to believe you accidentally created an ex-trans community, that you’ve been doing conversion therapy on yourself.”

Ky Schevers realized links between TERFs and the far-right

Later, in 2018, some of Schevers’ writing would be featured without consent in the anti-trans book When Harry Became Sally: Responding to the Transgender Moment, written by conservative, religious scholar Ryan T Anderson.

It wasn’t the first time right-wing Christians has “misused” her writing, she says.

“But at the time has book came out, I was already saying: ‘My transition didn’t really hurt me.’ I was trying to make peace with being genderqueer and trans. I couldn’t say that yet, because I would have gotten too much backlash from other detransitioned women.”

The book helped her to realize the ties between trans-exclusionary radical feminism and the far-right, as she saw that Anderson was parroting “a lot of the same arguments that these supposed feminists were making”.

“I was horrified because I thought the point of radical feminism was to fight the patriarchy and dismantle it, not like ally [with the right] to go after trans people.

“But when you’re siding with the Christian right just to go after trans people, you’re just a transphobe. You do not care about fighting the patriarchy, sexism, or homophobia, you just want to go after trans people.”

Anderson’s use of her writing made Schevers think.

“If telling my story is supposed to help uproot the patriarchy, and the patriarchy is using it, well there’s a problem here.”

As time went on, Schevers began to feel more at peace with herself and her transition, and consequently began feeling much happier.

I kind of realized that a lot of these like supposed feminists are just using me.

But what surprised her was that the anti-trans radical feminists around her were “threatened” by her happiness.

“It was actually a disturbing experience, because I’m feeling happier, but they didn’t really care. Obviously, I knew conservative Christians never had my best interests at heart, and I kind of realised that a lot of these like supposed feminists are just using me, and then I realised these other detransitioned women in my own community just want to use me.”

Getting out meant cutting off most of the people around her, Schevers says, and it took her a long time to speak out publicly about her experience.

“I felt comfortable actually sharing my story and speaking out and talking about this stuff because I don’t want people to suffer like I did,” Schevers says.

“I don’t want people to fall prey to toxic communities.”

And to those people who may be thinking about going through detransition, Schevers remarks: “People should be asking, ‘What do you need? What do you need to be well?’ We need to help people figure out if it’s transition that’s the problem, or if it’s living in a society wants everyone to see transitioning as harmful.”

Let’s talk about doctors vs dirty energy….

I am so frustrated today.

Nearly most of the day has gone by but I am so frustrated and due to allergies about ready to jump out of my own skin.

Today I went to an older woman’s home, she is someone I helped even when I tried to go back to work, and even after failing when I sunk into a deep depression, I would work up the ability to leave my bedroom and go to her home to help her with computer / phone issues.   Her husband is a wonderful person who in the park for decades that we have been here is well sought after as he is every knowledgeable for every type of repair from wood to electrical.   I never asked about his background, but it seems just from his knowledge he has been in the construction field for a long time.

But his wife has had computer issues and I have helped them and their sister in the park.  Remember I work only for donations and never make payment an issue, I will help anyone who needs assistance regardless if they are willing to offer me anything or not.

This time it was a repeat problem they had where they needed to print something important, but the printer only printed a page in one color.    As I knew and understood the problem it was an easy if time consuming fix.   But the conversation between us all was far more valuable to me than the money they insisted I take even when I tried gracefully to refuse.

We got talking about how the park has changed, and these are two people I have never heard a curse word from.   I have never heard either of them say a bad word against anyone.   Not to dox them but I would say that as I understand it they are from Indiana originally.

As I was cycling the printer through the cleaning program which is all it really needed, I mentioned how the park had changed for Ron and I.  How it has gone from when I was on the homeowner’s board and Ron and I would walk around being given hellos and hand waves to now where we are ignored and glared at by some of the people.  Not a lot but a notable amount.

This couple is the only people I know who I have never heard say vulgar words against others, they do not curse, they also do not push any kind of religious message or other holier than thou message.  They are an enigma as far as that goes, but I learned a few things today sitting with them.   When I mentioned how the park had changed and how some people now refuse to acknowledge Ron and I when we are walking around, I mentioned a specific person / home who had directed seeming dislike and nastiness towards us but I mentioned we try to be nice when we walk by that home.   The man ( I trying to be deliberately vague so if by some weird the haters come across this they can not attack such a nice couple) for the first time spoke up telling me he told that person they did not belong in our park and chewed them out.   Remember in the last decade this has been one of the most sought-after persons for every repair anyone could need.   He is legendary in the park to the point if you don’t know how to do a repair or build project everyone says go ask him.   And he told me how he went off on the guy after hearing him say something very homophobic (he wouldn’t tell me what the other guy said) and after telling him off and refusing to work for him told him that he did not belong in this park!  Then he told me that if Ron and I ever needed advice or help to let him know and he would help us any way he could.

Wow!  I knew anti-gay feelings were gaining strength here in our park, our home.  We have noticed that the waves and hellos had decreased and sometimes completely ignored as we walk around and meet people.  They told me of several people leaving the park I did not know about, and I guess that the change is happening park wide.   This is DeathSantis state, so I guess soon it will be our turn to move away.   Ron is already making the arrangements.   I had so hoped it wouldn’t go that way this year.   Sad hugs, keep the asylum doors open please.   Hugs

Democracy is when unmarried childless whores of Babylon select your leaders so they can continue to slaughter their children. Unmarried women are a civilizational threat.

Conservatives love this line about how women “civilize” men. The reality is the exact opposite. A supermajority of unmarried women would kill a child in the womb without a second thought.

Just let that marinate for a moment. Dems are the party of Moloch worshippers. Their religious services include baby murder and baptism by clot shot.

Cops: Ohio Man Killed Neighbor For Being Democrat – JMG

Ohio’s Butler Journal-News reports:

A Morgan Twp. man charged with murder admitted to shooting and killing his neighbor in Okeana on Saturday, according to court documents. Austin Gene Combs, 26, was booked into the Butler County Jail on Saturday night and charged with murder.

Anthony Lee King, 43, died of multiple gunshot wounds, and his death was ruled a homicide, according to the Butler County Coroner’s Office. Family members called 911 after hearing shots and finding King in the backyard unresponsive and bleeding.

“I look in the backyard and that man is walking away from my husband, and my husband is on the ground,” the woman says “He has come over like four times confronting my husband because he thought he was a Democrat. Why, why … Please, I don’t understand.”

Shapiro Host: Millions Of Kids Are On Puberty Blockers

Both these guys are anti-trans.   Walsh makes up a ridiculously large number to claim children are being rushed into puberty blockers.  When told the true number is less than 1,000 a year Rogan laughs about it because he loved the idea scaring people on the idea that millions of kids were transitioning.   Tomorrow I will read stories all over right wing media how millions of kids are being forced to use puberty blockers as they are forced to transition.   This is the sort of dirty tricks and made up false information that the right loves to use against trans people and the rest of the LGBTQ+.    Facts don’t matter to these people.  Also not mentioned here but Walsh has a recorded show where he said girls at the age of 12 should be married and have sex and by 14 should be having babies because they reach their peak sexuality by 16.    Yet it is the gays and teachers he calls groomers.   Hugs

And of course, Joe Rogan thinks the lie is funny:

Daily Wire host Matt Walsh claimed “millions” of kids have now been put on hormone blockers before getting fact checked by Joe Rogan’s producer. “How many people have had this done?” Rogan asked. “Depends on what — I don’t think we have exact numbers, but it’s — if we’re talking about the drugs, it’s, I mean, millions,” Walsh replied in reference to hormone medication given to those who are transitioning.

The projection screen in front of Rogan and Walsh lit up and producer Jamie Vernon interjected with a fact check from a Reuters article. “That’s a very small number if that’s right,” Vernon said referencing the article, published October 6, 2022, which said only 4,780 children had been placed on puberty blockers within the last five years. “Less than a thousand people a year,” Vernon reiterated. “A million sounds great,” Rogan laughed.

Walsh, who has called for charging adults who bring kids to drag show as pedophiles, recently appeared on JMG when he declared that Disney’s black mermaid is “unscientific.”

The previous month he appeared here when he blamed the Buffalo mass shooting on pandemic lockdowns.

Earlier this year, we heard from him when he declared that lesbians will cease to exist over the next 30 years.

Before that, he appeared here when he called for banning adoption by LGBT people. And before that, he appeared here when he called for dissolving the United States.

Walsh also claims that shooting people “is not against the law.” Walsh has declared that “everybody would be happier” if arranged marriages were mandatory.

Transgender woman in Honduras shot dead after seeking asylum in U.S.

https://www.lgbtqnation.com/2022/11/transgender-woman-honduras-shot-dead-seeking-asylum-u-s/

The CBP has gotten over run with trump supporting maga racist bigots and their social media shows this.   They actively disobey the current president and the director of National Security, refusing to follow current policies and even challenging them in court.   Plus ICE which is a rather new department created after 9/11 has started acting rouge and again has an attitude they don’t have to follow the orders of the current administration preferring the zero brown people in the US policies of the republicans and maga trump.

People need to realize four things.   This is a huge country with a declining population in many rural areas.   There are small towns dying all across the middle / west of the country.   Those places that have welcomed immigrants have seen a resurgence of growth in their town and area.   We need immigrants in this country and people willing to work that hard as to walk all the way to the southern border are people willing to work hard.  We need them.

Second thing I want you to realize is the polices being enforced are completely based on race and racist.   The brown people are being turned back without even hearings, they are unwanted brown people who will in the future help change the demographics of the country hastening when the white majority becomes a minority.   That terrifies some white people, they are fighting to maintain their assumed rule over everyone else, their assumed automatic authority.   While the brown people at the southern border are being pushed back, and those in the country rounded up to be deported, there is a energetic push to bring in “white” immigrants to live here and having more children.   Especially white Christian immigrants who get special dispensations and waivers to the rules.  Christian groups fighting the brown people and the LGBTQ+ from entering at the southern border saying the country is full are trying hard to bring in more white people who they figure will be racist bigots like them.   The problem they are having is the only people wanting to come here from Europe are from the impoverished states of eastern Europe and those are not always really “white” and will still bigoted are not always Christian.   That is why the current conservative racist bigots are in love with Viktor Orbán prime minister of Hungary who is super racist and bigoted against LGBTQ+.

Third thing people need to realize is these are asylum seekers.  The left where they were and came here because they were afraid they would be tortured and killed if they did not flee.   Or their kids would be.  The parents are often given a choice of their little kids working for the drug gangs or being killed.  What would you do?  What do you think LGBTQ+ people will have to do if DeathSantis takes over, we will have to go to another country and ask for asylum.  What if that country then deported us as soon as they heard why we were trying to enter and informed the Proud Boys gang where we were going to be sent and when.

Fourth thing I want to point out is that along with being asshole racist the majority of the CBP and ICE are hateful bigots against the LGBTQ+.  Gay people and trans people are not even given hearings by most of these people they are simply ejected from the country.  At time the ICE / border patrol has taken the extra step of telling the gangs that are threatening these people what flights or buses they are coming back on so they are met as soon as they get there by a horrible fate.   Think if DeathSantis ran the border and was in charge of deportations, what would he make sure happened to the LGBTQ+ immigrants.   And in order to get asylum the person asking must explain why including what gang is trying to harm them or their children so they must declare they or their kids are LGBTQ+.   They cannot just try to hide it, and they should not have to hide it being LGBTQ+.  It is not something to be ashamed of, it is not a disease to be cured.  Hugs

Trans activist Melissa Nuñez was shot and killed in Honduras

A transgender activist who was deported back to Honduras in July after seeking asylum in the U.S. was shot dead by gunmen there on October 18.

Melissa Nuñez, 42, was killed in Morocelí, 40 miles east of the capital Tegucigalpa, by unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle, local media reported. According to nonprofit Reportar Sin Miedo, Nuñez was leaving home when she was fatally shot by “hooded individuals”.

Police said Nuñez had dropped friends off and was leaving their house talking on a cellphone when she was gunned down, according to the Associated Press. “The motive behind the crime is thought to be a personal issue with her enemies,” police spokesman Miguel Carranza said. Nuñez’ sister, Glenda de Jesús Nuñez, said Nuñez had lived in the US for about 25 years before visiting family in Honduras.

Indyra Mendoza, general coordinator of Cattrachas, a Tegucigalpa-based lesbian feminist organization, said Nuñez had traveled home to Honduras in December of 2021, but tried to return to the U.S. in July, when she was denied entry. She was living in Miami at the time, after many years in New York. Mendoza told the Washington Blade that Nuñez had sought asylum in the U.S. but did not know on what grounds.

An initial investigation indicated that Nuñez was killed by two shots to the head, Mendoza told Reportar Sin Miedo.

According to Cattrachas, Nuñez is the 34th LGBTQ individual killed in Honduras this year. “They continue to kill us, they continue to violate our rights,” said Danny Reyes, who is with the LGBTQ advocacy organization Rainbow Movement. “We demand that the Honduran government do its best to start ensuring social justice.”

“The violence in Honduras continues to increase,” said Merlin Eguigure, coordinator of the Visitación Padilla Women for Peace Movement. “The government should declare a state of emergency on this issue.”

Friends and trans advocates gathered in Queens last month at a candlelight vigil organized by Make the Road New York. The Corona Plaza gathering in Queens featured pictures of Nuñez and signs with messages including “#NotOneMore! Stop killing us!”, “#JusticeforMelissa” and “No transwomen safe in Central America.”

Nuñez “fought for trans communities to be able to walk in public without being harassed by the police, to decriminalize sex work, to create more protections for all immigrant communities,” said Make the Road New York in a statement. “Let us transform this anger… into action so that the incarceration and deportation of our trans sisters ends now.”
