What is woke, and the woke ideology. It is the new term for what the right use to call PC or politically correct. What is that? It is being nice, being tolerant of those that are different from them, being civil in discussions and in public. One definition from dictionary.com is;
adjective : having or marked by an active awareness of systemic injustices and prejudices, especially those involving the treatment of ethnic, racial, or sexual minorities.
What is wrong with that? Being aware that there are people being treated unfairly. Unless you are a racist bigot who wants to be rude, hurtful / harmful, and demeaning to others in public without suffering the consequences of those actions. It is a small group of people demanding the country allow them to target people they hate and dislike. They want the society of the 1950s where white people were the controlling authority in society always assumed to be in charge and above people of color. They want a society that allowed men to demean and boss women around because men were unquestioningly in charge and women have no authority. They want a time when there was little or no public recognition of any LGBTQ+ people and those in that community were openly targeted for harm / abuse. That is what these maga want. This is the goal of the anti-gay, anti-trans, and anti-social progress.
I was once called a snowflake on Ark’s blog because I championed fixing social injustice. I did not know what the term meant, and I said I was happy to be a snowflake as I thought it meant an individual. Guess what I wear the title of social justice warrior proudly. Helping those that are being unfairly attacked or targeted for abuse just for being a person of color or a member of the LGBTQ+ community is something to be proud of. As I once mentioned safe spaces started in cities to let kids who were being abused at home or on their way to or from school by bullies / drug dealers / gang members know where they could go for help, where they could go to be safe. I remember the advertisements on TV showing kids running from danger seeing the sign on fire stations or other businesses and dashing inside in relief. I thought conservatives wanted to protect kids, but they mocked and derided safe spaces as a horrible thing. Hugs
Critics of “woke” policies are usually pretty skeptical about snowflakes calling for safe spaces—but Marjorie Taylor Greene is suddenly all for the idea. The Georgia lawmaker even went so far as to claim that MAGA Republicans “deserve” one of their own. “We’re fed up with Democrat policies, we’re fed up with the woke ideology being shoved down our throat, and we’re tired of our children being brainwashed into these same ideas,” Greene told Sean Hannity on Fox News on Tuesday. “We want our own safe space and we deserve it,” Greene added while discussing her recent advocacy for a “national divorce” between red and blue states. Commenting on Greene’s remarks, Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) tweeted: “Republicans ridiculed ‘safe spaces’ and called people ‘snowflakes’, this coming from one of their leaders is literally hilarious.”
Hannity defends Marjorie Taylor Greene's "national divorce" proposal, saying it is merely "a plan to decentralize the federal government"
Marjorie Taylor Greene claims a man yelled "F you!" at her in a restaurant
"We want our own safe space, and we deserve it" — Marjorie Taylor Greene
The woman who has openly committed adultery, switched religious lifestyle from mainstream Christianity to a fringe sect and tried to overthrow the government is complaining about another ideology being crammed down her throat. Irony RIP.
It’s never about the surface argument with conservatives. It’s always about them maintaining authority, all for fun, fame, and profit. It’s never really about anything else.
What MTG wants for her personal safe space– a large portion of the United States free of large women, small men, hijabs, lesbians, Blacks, drag queens, liberals, Mexicans, Jews, Catholics, and everybody who doesn’t think exactly like her.
“We’re fed up with Democratic policies that help average Americans, we’re fed up with enlightened ideology being shoved down our throat, and we’re tired of our children being educated”
You already have a “safe space”. Go to Truth Social, which is explicitly intended to be a space where MAGA bigots like you can hang out with like minded morons. That was built from the ground up to be your safe space.
Oh, I’m sorry. Is Truth Social a toxic shit-stain that nobody really wants to be on?
We’re tired of MAGA being shoved down our throats, tired of Republicans taking away our freedom to make choices about our bodies, freedom to express ourselves, to teach our children what we want to, tired of their racism and bigotry. It’s a two-way street, honey, get a grip.
Ms. Greene, may I introduce you to News Corp.? The universe of lies created by Rupert Murdoch sure seems to fit the bill, Marge. You have your own media empire that amplifies every treasonous brainfart you produce, bitch.
Come back tomorrow with more self-pitying bullshit. We’ll be waiting.
“We’re tired of our children being brainwashed into these same ideas”
Those would be her three adult children, all in their 20s, who might have opinions about her finalized divorce, the divorce she failed to carry through on a dozen years ago, and the tensions within her marriage that led to them.
I’m glad you posted those clips. Are evangelicals going to ban all cartoons from that era? How about all movies that have even one character in drag? How would that even work?
How do they define “adult cabaret?” And how is it different that regular cabaret? Also, I have yet to hear a convincing explanation of how a drag performance is inherently harmful to anyone.
Creeping ever closer to Gilead. Between this and the “don’t dare to bare” ladies shoulders thing in FL, it’s coming faster than we might think.
Margaret thatcher thought that by prohibiting teachers discussing homosexuality in schools would prevent kids turning out gay.
She was a fucking fool.
This new fascist trend in the US part of America is equally stupid.
Behind the anti-drag is homophobia, and behind that is evangelical bigotry.
I do fear for the safety of these people though. These lunatics have demonstrated that they are willing and able to harm and/or stir up mentally unstable followers of theirs to inflict harm (see that LibsOfTikTok hag). A drag queen friend of mine who has done drag queen story times recently told a group of our friends in a group chat that she gets several anonymous death threats per day via email or social media.
Never forget that evangelicals – who are directly responsible for this proposal – literally worship a genocidal deity. No wonder their entire lives are dedicated to violence and delusion.
I suppose some of these dorks actually think that preventing their kids from seeing drag will somehow prevent them from “becoming” gay, but I think the majority of them are just cruel miserable assholes who want to suck all the joy out of existence to punish all the people who never loved them. That and the grift of course.
True, that. But I also think that many of them are religionists who HATE anyone who doens’t conform to gender expectations. It’s one of the reasons they hate gay men, because they think we are acting like women, especially in the sex department.
So, Jack Lemon and Tony Curtis, Flip Wilson, Dustin Hoffman, and a large number of other male actors who have appeared in women’s clothing, will they be arrested if kids in Oklahoma watch their films?
Geez.
A felony to perform drag !
What happened American freedom?
Has America gone back to the Elizabethan age where they shut down theatres when there was a performance that they didn’t like?
In the Elizabethan Age, all roles were played by men, women were not allowed on stage. Everything was a drag show, but then as RuPaul says, “We are born naked and everything else is drag.”
The popular ‘gender critical’ theory about pelvic bones is simply nonsense. (Credit: GiaPratamaMD | Twitter)
It’s a popular ‘gender critical’ argument, that if archaeologists were to dig up a skeleton in hundreds of years from now they’d be able to tell whether it was male or female.
Sadly for them, it’s total nonsense.
The belief that birth sex is identifiable through skeletal structure is entirely “misleading” according to various experts.
The myth became popularised by so-called gender-critical individuals following claims of a physical disparity between pelvic bones of those assigned male at birth and those that were assigned female.
It is routinely used as an argument by anti-trans groups to claim that the concept of gender identity is useless because of its impermanence.
You can say gender neutral, you can have many sexual orientation.
But hundreds years from now, if Archeologist find your bone, they will say you either Male or female. pic.twitter.com/tamYUUxCPF
But, according to several experts in archaeology, the claim ignores a number of fundamental steps when identifying skeletal remains.
ATSU assistant professor and biological anthropologist Caroline VanSickle told AFPthat professionals often cannot say with any certainty if an individual was male, female or other just by looking at their bones.
“We can offer a fairly educated guess, but even then we sometimes get the answer wrong or end up with inconclusive results,” VanSickle says.
She added there is currently “limited data” on how hormone replacement therapy (HRT) affects bone structure, which makes it even more tricky to define the facts about a centuries-old skeleton.
“We also lack methods to identify intersex individuals, who make up around two per cent of the population,” she added.
The pelvic bone is not reliable enough to identify a male or female skeleton
Because of this ambiguity, archaeologists often refrain from definitively identifying the sex of a skeleton unless there is further proof to corroborate the decision.
When examining a skeleton, Osteoarchaeologists often consider both the physical characteristics of the skeleton, while also considering evidence of the person’s gender identity – especially in cultures which have exhibited gender-neutral or third-gender identities.
Durham university archaeology professor Rebecca Gowland said that skeletons are often categorised as male, probable male, unknown, female, or probable female.
She said the categorisation is based “on a number of different factors… [including] poor preservation, or it could be that some of the skeletal traits used to estimate sex are ambiguous.”
Archaeologists have routinely said that a person’s skeleton isn’t enough to identify their sex, let alone their pelvic bone. (Getty)
Sexual dimorphism – the biological or physical difference between the sexes of a species – is reportedly so slight in the skeleton of a human that the margin of error can be exceptionally high.
Gowland added that professionals are aware “biological sex exists on a spectrum, of which skeletons and the sexual variation they show is only one part of a greater whole.
“They also understand that the assessment of sex using skeletons is not 100 per cent accurate and this analysis may not align with an individual’s biological sex or gender identity.”
But, as many trans activists have pointed out, the concept of being misgendered in hundreds or thousands of years from now is not exactly on the top of their anxieties list.
“I won’t be alive by then, so I don’t really care,” journalist Katelyn Burns said in response to a post using the argument.
“Oh no! I’ll be so embarrassed when my bones are dug up in several hundred years! What ever will I do!?” another sarcastically wrote.
After meeting with Biden, Abbott took questions from reporters, with one asking if he planned toask the federal government to send Texas additional funds to help address the historic surge in illegal immigration.
“One hundred percent. Texas desperately needs more money,” Abbott said. “I know the Republicans in the US House have committed to providing Texas the money that we need. We just finished over the past two years spending 4 billion of Texas taxpayer dollars for Texas to fill the gap caused by the Biden administration.”
In April, Abbott began chartering buses to drop off migrants in other parts of the country, like Washington, DC, and Chicago, without giving those cities any notice — a program that Texas has spent millions of dollars on.
Texas had spent $12 million on the efforts as of August, the Texas Tribune reported at the time. By November, the amount spent busing migrants out of state had risen to $20 million, according to the local outlet WFAA.
Abbott’s office did not immediately respond to Insider’srequest for comment.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has appointed right-wing activist Christopher Rufo, who rose to national prominence demonizing racial justice advocates and attacking LGBTQ communities, to the board of trustees of the New College of Florida. The appointment is all the more noteworthy given that Rufo lives in Gig Harbor, Washington.
Rufo is a senior fellow at the conservative Manhattan Institute and has spent years attempting to inject bigotry and incorrect information into mainstream discourses about gay and trans people, drag queens, and the academic discipline known as critical race theory. Rufo is also a frequent guest on Fox News, including on Tucker Carlson’s prime-time show.
“My ambition is to help the new board majority transform New College into a classical liberal arts institution,” Rufo tweeted in response to the news. “We are recapturing higher education.”
Rufo has long wanted to exert conservative control over educational policy, calling teachers “political predators” under a pretext of curriculum transparency. Now, with a new formal appointment, he’s positioned to threaten the safety and well-being of Black and LGBTQ students at New College of Florida, a public liberal arts school with a reportedly significant gay and trans population.
“A lot of the students there are trans and even more are queer,” Parkland shooting survivor and gun control activist X González recently wrote in The Cut. González added that “In the queer space of New College, changing your pronouns, name, or presentation is a nonevent.”
Rufo has repeatedlyvoiced his opposition to respecting trans and nonbinary people’s pronouns, further evidence that his presence could very well endanger the school’s supportive environment. If that’s DeSantis’ goal, it would be fully in line with the governor’s other anti-LGBTQ policies, and his broader strategy of harming vulnerable populations to create a spectacle to further his own political ambitions.
Rufo has repeatedly voiced his opposition to respecting trans and nonbinary people’s pronouns, further evidence that his presence could very well endanger the school’s supportive environment.“
Rufo largely owes his standing in conservative media to his successful attacks on critical race theory, or CRT. As nationwide protests erupted in the summer of 2020 following the police murder of George Floyd in a Minneapolis suburb, Rufo began writing about Black Lives Matter with the goal of discrediting the movement. That September, he appeared on Tucker Carlson Tonight to press then-President Donald Trump to prohibit any federal training programs geared toward racial sensitivity awareness, and he took credit when Trump followed his advice. Days later, Carlson launched his own attacks against CRT, praising Rufo in the process. Fox News completely embraced the anti-CRT panic, and by the end of 2021, had hosted Rufo at least 52 times and mentioned CRT nearly 4,000 times that year.
Rufo has admitted that he doesn’t know anything about what CRT actually is and isn’t interested in learning about it. His openly stated goal is to brand the term as “toxic,” thereby rendering attempts to redress racial oppression through education as difficult as possible. Already, professors in Florida are avoiding including CRT ideas in their curricula for fear of violating a law DeSantis signed in April 2022 that essentially prohibits teaching students about structural racism.
Early last year, Rufo redirected his focus onto LGBTQ communities, joining in the chorus of right-wing activists who adopted the slur “groomer” to refer to gay and trans people. In March, he claimed that Disney was sexualizing children, part of his campaign to support DeSantis’ so-called “Don’t Say Gay” legislation. Those attacks were further amplified by the anti-LGBTQ account Libs of TikTok, which led to harassment of teachers and parents who supported gay and trans students. These bigoted attacks exploded on Facebook and other online platforms.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (D) appoints far-right anti-LGBTQ+ zealot and faux moral panic peddler Christopher Rufo to the New College Of Florida’s Board of Trustees as part of the college’s hard-right shift.
Rufo initially was infamous for bringing the faux moral panic of “CRT” in K-12 schools and workplaces into the discussion.
The huge reason gay people are being called “groomers” and being harassed at drag brunch by zealots? This guy.
