Snarky Snippets For A Sunday Afternoon

Hello Jill. So much of your post is important I hope you will forgive me for focusing on the first part. I have been reading that all over the US librarians are quitting due to harassment by the (brownshirts) right wing attacks. It scares me as I have read of how these very same attacks led to the end of democracy in history and currently in other countries. Control of information gives an authoritarian government the ability to shape the narrative of a country. We have seen how these same restrictions in Russia have led to the elimination of entire groups from the society. We are at a scary time for minorities in the US with one of the majority political parties supporting Viktor Orban. Hugs.

Ahhhhh … nothing like a peaceful, lazy Sunday afternoon, right?  Curl up with a good book, maybe have a little bit of a kip, take a look at the news and BOOM … the peace is shattered, the nerves are jangled, and the snark finds its way into a blog post!

Sorry, no books today!

In the small town of Jamestown, Michigan, population 9,630 as of the 2020 census, the library may soon close.  Lack of interest?  No way!  The people in this town love their library, but the taxpayers voted against funding the library earlier.  Why?  A handful of residents – less than 50 – complained about books in the library written by or about LGBTQ people, saying their intent was to ‘groom’ children.  The library director was harrassed to the point that she finally resigned, as did the next in line for her job.

Larry Walton, the library…

And Now We Know

Thank you Tengrian for again showing how corrupt the tRump administration / republicans were about getting their goal of stacking the court. What is worse, all the creditable ethics violations against Kavanaugh stopped once he was a SCOTUS justice, as there is no way to address them now. We have an illegitimate corrupt justice who publicly melted down and ranted that he hated and would work against democrats on the highest court of our country. Seems good for democracy, right? Hugs

Of the many crimes and misdemeanors of the 4th Reich, one of the most egregious and damaging must be the nomination and confirmation of the Virgin Mayor of Keg City —Brett Kavanaugh— to the now #IllegitimateSCOTUS.

When the possibility of our self-described pussy-grabbing ex-Prznint Stupid getting a fellow sex offender (ALLEGED by the very credible Christine Blasey Ford, who testified that Kavanaugh had sexually assaulted and tried to rape her when they were in high school) onto the court, you could hear pretty much all thinking Americans scream, and so an investigation of Justice Kegger ensued. As it turned out, it was a Potemkin village of an investigation.

In a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing last week, Sen. Whitehouse had the following exchange with FBI director Christopher Wray:

Whitehouse: As you know, we are now entering the fourth year of a frustrating saga that began with an…

And again, the younger generation show how to defeat the republicans, can we at least learn something from this? When will the older corporate democrats move aside? Thank you to Tengrain for posting this. And as always check out the comments. Hugs

Read All About It!
(Bet Sparky does the crossword puzzle in ink)

As regular readers know, I’m not the biggest fan of the Pod Save Whatevs boys (someone described them as NPR with swears and that seems about right), but sometimes they really nail an analysis. This is one of those times.

Most of the conversation around Democratic messaging is about why we suck so bad. Democratic activists and donors look longingly at Republican messaging and fall in love with former Republican action committees like the Lincoln Project. A feeling of messaging inadequacy is almost the price of admission for being a Democrat. I havewritten about why this narrative is incorrect — or at least more nuanced than “Repubs good, Dems bad.” However, there is an exception to this rule, and that exception has a shaved head, prefers gym shorts to suits, and once flew a ‘Legalize Marijuana’…
