News That Will Drive You To Drink

Another great post by Tengrain at MPS.   It is so scary how much power these religious fanatics have managed to gain over our secular government, and the drive they have to force all of us to live by their religious doctrines.  Also check out the comments, as always they are sharp on the point.   Hugs.  Scottie

Thom Hartmann: Stop the Republican War on Public Schools!

Ever since Reagan’s presidency, the core of Republican positions on public education have been five-fold:
1. Let white students attend schools that are islands of white privilege where they don’t have to confront the true racial history of America,
2. Use public money to support private, for-profit, and religious schools that can accomplish this (and cycle some of that money back to Republican politicians),
3. Destroy public schools’ teachers’ unions,
4. End the teaching of science, critical thinking, evolution, and sex ed, and,
5. Bring fundamentalist Christianity into the classroom.

Earlier this year, Republican Senator Marco Rubio called America’s public school system a “cesspool of Marxist indoctrination.”

“Dangerous academic constructs like critical race theory and radical gender theory are being forced on elementary school children,” Rubio wrote for the American Conservative magazine, adding, “We need to ensure no federal funding is ever used to promote these radical ideas in schools.”

A bit on the long side, but really informative over what has happened and what is currently happening in this seeming never ending war on Public schools.   Hugs.  Scottie

Some staggering Joe My God stories have I in open tabs. With this post one open window of tabs cleared!

Read the full article. According to the piece, the flag was re-popularized in 2013 by Christian nationalist Dutch Sheets and is now often seen at far-right and QAnon events. Rioters brandished the flag during the attack on the US Capitol. As I reported this morning, Johnson is presently attending a far-right conference in Paris.

Cincinnati Archbishop Dennis Schnurr last appeared here in 2014 when he launched a “prayer in defense of marriage” campaign as the Sixth Circuit Court considered the same-sex marriage case that ultimately would be folded into the Obergefell case before the Supreme Court.

I can’t stop thinking about the new Speaker of the House and what it means that he was unanimously elected by his party…

The Doctors are Leaving Idaho

This is one of the fallouts when you ban abortion in a state. Highly respected medical professionals leave and the people suffer.

This shouldn’t be our reality America. Nowhere in this land of freedom, should the personal feelings of politicians be considered above the medical decisions of people and their doctors.

Ohio Republicans Vow To Defy Abortion Rights Measure: “No Amendment Can Overturn Our God-Given Rights”

There is no will of the people, the people will be ruled by church doctrine and like it.  Our God can’t lose, sounds like the Middle East to me!  Republicans have simply decided they are above all laws, they have decided anything they don’t like just did not happen.  They have gone full tRump on everything.  Don’t like election results, deny them and ignore them.  Don’t like that you did not get a 100 on that test, just claim you did and attack anyone saying you did not.  Rules not in your favor, change the rules and the majority that do like them be damned because they don’t have rights and will be ruled.   The republicans have gone full ruling class over the ruled population.   No wonder they love Putin.

“Maybe you do not care much about the future of the Republican Party. You should. Conservatives will always be with us. If conservatives become convinced that they can not win democratically, they will not abandon conservatism. They will reject democracy.”
― David Frum, Trumpocracy: The Corruption of the American Republic

The Meidas Touch reports:

Days after Ohio voters passed Issue 1 and codified abortion rights into Ohio’s constitution, Republicans are not accepting the election results.

In a new, unhinged press release issued by the Ohio House Republican Committee, GOP members rant that “foreign billionaires” impacted the election results and call the results tainted by so-called “foreign interference.” It is unclear what they are referring to.

The press release further argues that the results of the election do not invalidate a 6-week abortion ban previously passed by the Ohio Legislature and that “no amendment can overturn the God given rights with which we were born.”

Via press release from the Ohio GOP:

Ohio Legislators will be introducing several bills to address this issue in the coming weeks.

“Foreign billionaires don’t get to make Ohio laws,” said Jennifer Gross (R-West Chester), pointing to millions from billionaires outside America that helped fund Issue 1. Gross added, “This is foreign election interference, and it will not stand.”

“Issue 1 doesn’t repeal a single Ohio law, in fact, it doesn’t even mention one,” said Representative Bill Dean (R-Xenia). “The amendment’s language is dangerously vague and unconstrained, and can be weaponized to attack parental rights or defend rapists, pedophiles, and human traffickers.”

Melanie Miller (R-Ashland) said, “We will continue to be a voice for every child in their mother’s womb who cannot speak for themselves.”

Representative Beth Lear (R-Galena) stated, “No amendment can overturn the God given rights with which we were born.”

To prevent mischief by pro-abortion courts with Issue 1, Ohio legislators will consider removing jurisdiction from the judiciary over this ambiguous ballot initiative. The Ohio legislature alone will consider what, if any, modifications to make to existing laws based on public hearings and input from legal experts on both sides.

Some of the money used to promote the amendment may have come from outside Ohio, but all the votes in favour of it were from registered Ohio voters.

Unless the Repukes can show irrefutable evidence of vote buying, they really have no recourse (unless they pass another undemocratic law, as they threaten to).

Surprise…surprise…Republican leaders insist upon overturning the will of their constituents and democracy…AGAIN.

Had the Rethugs not managed to write the measure using intentionally pejorative terms and language AND hadn’t lied constantly about what the amendment would create in terms of a guarantee to reproductive rights as well as their now-constant blood-libel “abortion beyond birth” bullshit, the margin would’ve been even higher.

Estimates remain that less than 1/4 of Americans want abortion to be illegal under most or all circumstances.

Apparently the goal posts are inflatable and easily moved from one location to another at will.

Let the states decide. Unless they DON’T agree with us, and then deny that they even decided.

Republicans hate and reject American democracy, including free and fair elections… because their policies are appalling and they keep losing, but won’t admit that unpopularity is why that keeps happening.

Also, don’t women and girls have “god-given rights”? Apparently not, according to these forced-pregnancy patriarchal misogynists.

Notice how this GQP representative, Beth Lear, made a Freudian Slip when she referred to the “ God given rights with which we were BORN.”

So much for the rights of fertilized eggs, blastocysts, fetuses, and “unborn children.”

She should be careful. Her area is transitioning from rural/small town/exurban to suburban.

And is not far from all the new Intel chips plant, Google, Apple, etc coming to the Columbus area.

edit: They know, so they HAVE to force this shit now.

They look at the likes of Putin and want the same level of power and freedom from any accountability.

Republicans won’t stop until they have completely destroyed our democracy. These are some seriously scary times we are heading into.

The Christian outlook and hope is for a literal theocracy, but they will settle for a stand-in person instead. The bible has nothing to say about democracy. The only voting that was done was when Roman soldiers cast lots for Jesus’s cloak and the Apostles elected a new member after Judas Iscariot “dropped out.”

There is such a simple solution at hand…If you don’t believe in abortion, gay marriage, or anything else…don’t have one. You see, no one is FORCING you to have one, it is your choice, just like it is their choice to make for themselves. Unique concept, personal freedom, isn’t it?

Besides, aren’t you Christians always ranting about Free Will?

They don’t know the meaning of, “Mind your own business”

As we know, it’s not about saving babies. Sure, there are some True Believers™ who really think they are babies in the womb, and that their god will is very very angry over gays getting married, but for most, that’s just their cover. It’s about control and establishing a theocracy.

GOP candidate loses in Kentucky after millions spent on anti-transgender ads

https://www.lgbtqnation.com/2023/11/gop-candidate-loses-in-kentucky-after-millions-spent-on-anti-transgender-ads/

One of the most serious reasons I quit being a member of TYT and refuse to watch their shows was because of Cenk’s and Anna’s constant refrain that the left supporting trans people was a losing issue, causing the republicans to win races.  They were vicious about it, how the left had to stop supporting trans people, stop talking about them, and just let the right have that space.  Even as it was pointed out to both of them that the election results showed they were wrong, they doubled down on the idea that the left needed to stop supporting trans people, pushing for trans people to play sports with the gender they identified with, and letting trans people use the public / school restrooms of the gender they identify with.  This election again shows how Cenk and Anna have become so out of touch with the left now.   They doubled down because in their minds they are the experts that everyone must agree with and follow.  Hopefully these election results will get Cenk to drop his grift of running for president against Biden. I will also remind everyone that Riley Gaines is a failed losing swimmer that makes her money being a star of the anti-trans movement complaining that she mistreated but always fails to mention the truth both her and Lia Thomas were beaten by four other women swimmers.  If Thomas had such great advantages, why was she beaten by four other women? Gaines is just a poor swimmer compared to the competition.      Hugs.  Scottie

Andy Beshear

Despite an outside organization spending millions of dollars on ads attacking transgender people to support GOP candidate and state Attorney General Daniel Cameron, incumbent Gov. Andy Beshear (D) is projected as the winner in the Kentucky gubernatorial race with 90% of precincts reporting.

“We have been through a lot together,” Beshear told supporters late last night after the race was called. “Devastating tornadoes in the west, historic flooding in the east and after each I made a promise, a promise that I would help rebuild every home and every life. And thanks to the people of Kentucky and thanks to this election, we’re going to see that promise through.”

Transgender rights became a major campaign issue this past year in the state. One of the ads funded by the American Principles Project PAC (APP-PAC) said that Beshear would send the FBI to take trans kids away from their parents if their parents didn’t accept their identities, which was not a part of Beshear’s platform.

Another ad showed a drag queen and accused Beshear of pushing “child sex changes with permanent consequences.” The ad was removed from YouTube under the platform’s hate speech policy.

In several other ads featuring former University of Kentucky swimmer and anti-trans activist Riley Gaines, APP-PAC attacked Beshear for vetoing a bill to ban trans kids from participating in school sports. The Republican legislature ultimately overturned his veto.

In the ad, Gaines complained about tying with trans University of Pennsylvania swimmer Lia Thomas for fifth place in a competition, a moment Gaines described as “heartbreaking and somber.” She has used her story for the past two years in political ads and speeches as she decries trans equality.

In the ad, Gaines also said that Beshear wasn’t a “real man” while calling Thomas a “male” and misgendering her.

On X, Terry Schilling of APP-PAC said that the group spent $2 million on the anti-trans ads in Kentucky.

The Lexington Herald-Ledger reports that Schilling’s group ran similar ads against Beshear in 2019 when he was first elected.

Schilling got national attention in 2020 when he told Politico that he hoped to make opposition to transgender rights a wedge issue to support Republican candidates. His group paid for anti-trans ads supporting Trump’s campaign. Trump ultimately lost the election by about seven million votes.

“What I’m hoping is that once we release these ads and numbers start to move, the Trump campaign will see it’s a powerful issue that the Republican Party can use to its success,” Schilling said at the time.

Dems win big, anti-trans and LGBTQIA hatred loses big. Republicans lose big. What they are pushing which is minority rule by fundamentalist Christian fascism is not wanted. Let people live their lives in peace, equality, and openly as who they are.
