Banned YouTube video

  1. Scottie, I’m actually at a loss for words that you’re able to watch SO MANY videos … PLUS read blogs … AND comment on them … AND post your own stuff. No wonder your days are full!

As for this video — I did watch part of it but quite frankly, I felt it was a complete waste of my time! I could care less that this guy had his video removed. Too bad. How sad. And besides … who is he except just ONE MORE person that thinks what HE has to say is valuable to the world. HA!

    1. Hello Nan. I like having full days. Keeps my mind busy. Sadly I get too busy following rabbit holes and get less done than I wanted.

Nan I think you missed the point of the video. I guess I should have written it out. I did not want to link back or fight with the embedding of the linked videos that were in the description box. He put the links to the banned video in the discretion boxes, but I couldn’t find a CC on them, so you did not miss out. What I was interested in was the debunking video he did on the misleading information given out by the anti-vax people. He does a good job of his debunking and has the kind of voice that is easy to listen to. But YouTube has an issue where if you try to debunk something you’re the one who gets slammed, not the poster of incorrect information. I fought that with Disqus comment system on the cartoon comments to the anti-vax covid deniers. I got hit with spam or comment removed but their comments stayed. Scottie

      1. It really makes you wonder why one is accepted but the other isn’t. Perhaps this plays a role in why so many people are convinced by the anti-vaxxers … the counter videos/comments are blocked!

        1. You are correct Nan. I get frustrated and a lot of time I let things slide because I know I will be flagged for trying to correct the misinformation. I don’t get bothered by the effort but it turns into a waste of my time so that upsets me. If I spend 30 minutes looking up and writing a rebuttal only to see it be blocked or pulled is irritating. And for me it only happens on right wing cartoon sites even though the companies claim they are neutral. I still have things up for review from shortly after I started the new blog. Disqus leaves a message under the comment that they received my request for review and will get to it shortly, but they never due. The cartoons only have a 14 day window and some of these are months old. Not going to be much good even if they approve them now. Scottie

            1. Hello Nan. I am hopeless. even knowing I am shouting into the wind and that the deck is stacked against me I still try to get the facts out there. I don’t bother to answer personal attacks, that is what the trolls want, they live for it. But I feel a compulsion to get the real information out, to reach those reading along without commenting. I feel reality needs some defending. I have learned I don’t need to single out or respond to a commenter who is spouting misinformation because if I just leave the comment on a new thread they will come after me, telling me they read it. So far none have come to the blog that I know of. Scottie

              1. Re: your last comment about trolls … I guess you noticed I have one that can’t seem to say enough about his “personal research” on COVID. I’ve already had to delete several of his comments. If he keeps it up, I’m going to close comments on this particular post.

I don’t mind that a person disagrees with my personal perspective on things, but it always seems rather interesting to me that it takes a multitude of comments to “defend” their viewpoint. And of course, it nearly always gets “personal.”

                1. Hello Nan. Yes I noticed. I restrained my normal desire to dive full in on response mode. For several reasons I guess. First, I have not had time yet ( just got the round up done ) to read the other responding comments and I know your community has a lot of smart people able to argue quite well. Second, I did not want to upset you by going to much on attack when I know from experience an attack against them is what they want and it won’t help. Third you are more than capable of handling these sorts without any back up from us, but you have it if you want it.

Nan nothing anyone, you or me or the smartest most educated person in the group could say that will dent the armor this person has built up. I know when I read what they have written I will get angry and want to respond, and I will stop myself. Because I deal with it on the right wing cartoon sites. It is like talking two different languages now. The point of these people is to sow dissent and cause people to question. They are bad actors. I don’t think they believe what they are saying, they simply want the attention, they want to argue and feel important, they want the attention from people trying to “teach” them the truth. And the harder we work to correct their misinformation the more they giggle. If they can upset us the happier they are. One guy on the right wing cartoons finds everything I comment on just to call me “snottie” and insult me. I don’t care and ignore them but several other people have taken the bait to defend me. I have to tell them it is not to bother, it doesn’t do any good and the troll loves it.

If I was you I would allow them like a three or four deep thread and cut them off. If they repeat themselves then they are done. If they get too personal they are done. But you have your comment rules and have the right to enforce them.

I promise when I read them I won’t bother to engage, it won’t help and will only give the troll more reason to keep going. Scottie

                  1. You’ve probably seen that I closed comments after his latest reference to an article on a FAR RIGHT website. What’s interesting to me is how they never give up. It’s like they think that by saying something often enough, it’s going to change someone’s mind. SMH

                    1. Hello Nan. They live by the adage if you tell a lie often enough it becomes true. I have been reading that some of these social media misinformation posters are paid by dark money interest groups to push a message or disrupt / rile up a segment of society. I guess the Russians are too busy so they are farming it out to people who are willing to lie on social media to get paid.
