Texas Parents Reported For Child Abuse For Loving Their Transgender Son

A Texas transgender teen was admitted to a hospital after a suicide attempt, and instead of treating him with the proper care, the hospital reported his parents to the state government for child abuse. The teen, Antonio, even cited Greg Abbott’s anti-trans laws as a factor in his suicide attempt, in addition to bullying from classmates who were galvanized by Abbott’s and the Republican’s transphobic rhetoric. Cenk Uygur, Jayar Jackson, and Jessica Burbank discuss on The Young Turks.

“On Wednesday, the American Civil Liberties Union and Lambda Legal filed a lawsuit on behalf of three families challenging Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s recent call for the state’s Department of Family and Protective Services to investigate parents who provide gender-affirming healthcare to transgender kids, and to block the state from investigating members of PFLAG.

The lawsuit cites a particularly disturbing case in which a transgender boy whose family was reported to the state’s DFPS by hospital staff after he was admitted for attempting suicide after he took a bottle of aspirin.

According to the lawsuit, 16-year-old Antonio Voe “said that the political environment, including Abbott’s Letter, and being misgendered at school, led him to take these actions.”

When hospital staff learned he had been receiving hormone therapy, they reported his family to the DFPS.”

Scottie along the lines of this subject, I so wanted to send you that article with the comments yesterday, but I have no copy-paste on this tablet or my phone. That I know of! So you only got the link via their share button. I hope! But I can send it again whenever you need. I hope you all get to enjoy the weekend.

    1. Hello Ali. Please send the link and any bits of these stories you can. That you are there and getting a more personal part of the story by understanding the local feelings. On the copy and paste, on my iPad to copy I hold my finger on the word until the menu comes up, then choose from the menu, to paste I hold my finger on a blank spot until the menus comes up. Hugs

        1. Hello Ali. Ah that is why I missed it. Always mention to me in a comment when you email. I have four email accounts and rarely check any of them. They get so much mail I ignore them unless I am looking for a specific one. I will go run a search for your name. Hugs

            1. Hello Ali. As I said in the abortive attempt to reply, it is one of my failings. I just cannot handle or sort all the email I get. Long ago if an email came in I read it, sorted it, filed it, then forgot it. But then I got an email for every blog post of blogs I followed, then I got an email on every post I wrote, then I got an email for everything I bought online or company I interacted with, then I started following hundreds of blogs, then I started new blogs as the old one got nuked and used those blogs to subscribe to the blogs I already subscribed to, and then did that again for this last blog and now I get hundreds of emails a day, I get three emails for each blog I subscribe to, along with all the comments and replies. I used to get about four hundred emails a day and now I think that number is much larger. So I have gotten to where I ignore it unless I am looking for a specific email. Thanks for understanding. Someday I have to fix all this mess but right now I just don’t have time. Hugs

    1. Hello Ali. Thank you for the link. It is a great opinion piece. I love your comment. I noticed there are several really hateful comments in that section also. Par for the course. Thanks again. I am going to post the article. Hugs

      1. Awesome-I’m glad you can use it.
Also, if anybody wants to go there and vote up the non-awful comments, that’d be kinda fun. I normally don’t ask for skewing comments threads, but this time we would be using our powers for Good. 😉

        1. Hello Ali. Great point. I also join Ali to ask if you have a few free seconds, go to the link of the story, scroll down to the comments and give Ali and the other supportive people some thumbs up. Ali’s inoffensive comment got a negative 83% rating with after my up vote was at 14. It may have changed some by now. Some of the angriest abusive comments have huge up vote numbers. That is why I say those hateful ignorant people are proud of their ignorance and hate. It stuns me that some people are so hateful, but it shouldn’t in our age of right wing media anger stoking. Hugs
