Desi Lydic unpacks the latest Capitol Hill news: Matt Gaetz withdraws as Trump’s pick for Attorney General, and Nancy Mace targets Congresswoman Sarah McBride with an anti-trans bathroom ban.
What the host did not point out is that Nancy Mace is a total publicity hound. She seeks the spotlight at all times. She demands her staff book her on some media at least once a week. She demands they video her like you see in the clips above so she can post them on X or other social media. She is like Marge Greene in that being famous and a celebrity is more important to them than governing. Being an influencer is more important than forming a more perfect union for everyone. Making a spectacle and being in the center of what everyone is talking about is what gives them the greatest joy. As you can see once defending trans people’s rights gave her clicks and views so she was all in for it. Then her cult switched to fear and hate regardless of the real truth and the denial of science in favor of religion. In a book written over thousands of years, edited and changed countless times, translated from language to language often by people with no idea how to speak the language they are translating, and then selectively edited by political leaders as to what should be in it and what should be removed … that book says god created them male and female. So that was written by people who did not understand germs or to wash their hands to prevent sickness, who believed different colored sticks would cause different colored livestock, and had no concept of modern science makes a claim that modern humans in 2024 place more authority in than all the education and medical science of all history. How is that rational? Yet these people are elected to the highest offices to run a country that once was respected as striving for enlightenment and civil rights for all, is now being drive to regress to a theocracy where our highest information will be limited to what people in the Bronze Age understood. We have seen this happen in other countries and we were aghast at it. Look at Afghanistan? Look at the Arab countries that turned their backs on science and instead used their holy writings as the way things must always be. That thinking allows no growth and a supreme denial of reality. We can look and see what happened when Islam went from the font of Science to one in which those who interpret the holy books before going by the facts in front of them. We are now heading in much the same direction when we let a group tell us that Bronze age goat herders knew more than modern science. There is much to be fearful for us all if we slide back to where we follow the so-call holy men who reject facts so they can remain in power.

Hi Muttpupdad. It is all because of their ideas of hate. Their god hates who they hate, their god forbids what they don’t understand. They do not follow Jesus, they worship a book. But the thing that gets me the most is that to the mass of them the myth of what the 1950s was should be how we all live today. Yet what helped make the middle class life so easy in the 1950s for white people was the high taxes on corporations and the wealthy. They won’t go there. They only want the social ban on anyone not what they think of as normal being seen in public. They want a whitewashed straight cis world. It is not going to happen. The young people just won’t go back to living in hiding or not having equality. Black people are not going willingly to the back of the bus. What is so strange the very tactics they tried against gay people in the 1970s / 1980s and lost. Yet it is succeeding in some places now and yet not in others. They started with gays as a threat to children and then moved on to targeting teachers who were gay. It was found wrong on gays and it is wrong on gays. Yet these religious haters and people who do not like things different from them never learn. Hugs

There seems to be an undercurrent within parts of USA society which when pressed with progress will fall back upon a selective readings of the Bible as a support mechanism and a justification for their actions:

This has been weaponised to a greater degree by those forces which are using Trump as a figurehead and encouraging his behaviour to attract a grass roots excitable following.
In turn this becomes a tactic which others adopt feeling that this mode of publicity seeking inflammatory style is now a fully acceptable stand.
How many are using this from belief or simply as a means of getting their ‘place in the sun’ is a moot point.
Whatever, it is corrosive and will become a danger to genuine progress. The civic / civil / social version of what earlier generations feared might arise as a result of the danger wrought by nuclear war.

Hi Roger. Thank you. But what worries me is not the flash in the pan attention seekers like Nancy Mace. It is the mass of followers they seem to inspire and get to parrot their views without even thinking of it. It just sounds correct to them. Also if the other team believes X then they must believe Y just because they must show the other team is always wrong.
These same tactics were tried against gay people back in the 1970s / 1980s, the accusations were that gays target children. Then the next attack was targeted gay teachers as the threat to the children. Social media was not a thing then but it was attacks on Pride parades and books about gay people. They all failed over a short period of time as people realized the people around them they liked were gay. But sadly in some areas, especially the areas of fundamentalist religious people the attacks on trans people are working.
Because the attacks on trans people are always about the little girls, the daughters. The haters talk of adult pervert men in little girls bathrooms, they talk of how their daughter’s sports dreams being destroyed by fully developed boys taking over girls teams. It is all crap, shit talk by people who don’t care about the facts. There are no known cases of trans people attacking kids or adults in bathrooms. If a man wants to attack someone they don’t need to be trans to do it.
Trans women are not winning all the sports meets. In fact there are very few trans kids in sports. Most states have 1 or two and many red states have none. Plus notice not only do these people never talk about trans boys / men, but they also ignore thousands of girls in each state on boys teams because there are no girls teams for them to play on. If they were so supportive of girls sport why are they not fighting for teams for the girls? So they don’t care about girls in sports, they care about the issue that someone is different in a way they don’t like or understand. They don’t like the idea of boys wanting to be girls which is what they think trans is. The idea of a man removing his penis is a horror story to them, the thing of nightmares. Hugs

This the recurring theme and flaw with Humanity. Prejudice birthed out of Ignorance and Fear, used by fanatics as well as opportunists. Across the world there is not one nation or community free of this toxicity.
Although Trump and his Court may feel they have ‘won’ the fact is that 70,000,000 did not vote for him, and how many out there not eligible to vote now will come of age during his reign with a determination to disavow this toxicity his era has brought.
No good can come out of the era that a grass roots combined with frustrated right-wing agenda bearers decided to place Trump on a pedestal and use him as a figure head.

Hi Roger. What you say has a lot of truth to it. But my fear is with the power the haters now have to push their view of what is normal and acceptable will start to over power the acceptance gained slowly over decades. As younger impressionable young people come into schools that no longer have tolerance and anti-bullying programs / posters everywhere, will they stop accepting the LGBTQ+ students but instead by into the hate pushed by the teachers / school republicans? Will the LGBTQ+ students now be scared to come out to the rest of the students out of fear of what they or their families may say about them or do to them? The last two years of republican hate attacks on trans people and the rest of the LGBTQ+ has lowered the amount of public support for the entire LGBTQ+ community for the first times in 20 years of constant gains in public approval. There is a reason why they call the presidency the bully pulpit. We fought so hard to make the country a better place for all the younger LGBTQ+, and we preached to all the kids don’t give in to despair over what you are going through in school because as soon as you are an adult it gets a lot better. We made slogans saying it gets better to keep the LGBTQ+ kids from suicide and give them hope. How can we say that now that we see all the gains made over decades removed by tRump and his fundamentalist Christian bigot haters. If out gains can be so quickly and easily rolled back and our rights removed … how can we tell kids it gets better? Sorry to be so down tonight. It not only has been a long night but I have read article after article of the haters desires and plans to remove my rights to please their god. The god / Jesus I was taught about in the New Testament wouldn’t approve at all but that won’t stop them or make a dent in their push to do the very opposite of what Jesus would do. After all when the centurion came to him asking him to heal his beloved “servant” bible scholars have determined that what the words used mean was not servant but was the man’s boy lover.
