Hi Roger. I tend to not want to tell someone who calls themselves Christian that they are not acting Christ like. I have to admit that I as an atheist feel that everyone gets to call themselves what they wish, but their actions will show who they really are. Far too often those showing their Christian credentials are far too often followers of the vengeful powerful angry god of the OT.
Now I have to give you the other side of that. The above maybe because I look for those types of Christians so if they get violent I can protect myself or my spouse. However even here in deep red republican Florida I have met grand Christians. I am reminded of the lady at Publix who knows both me and my spouse names, and asks about us, chats with us, and is very warm / caring. She makes no secret of the cross she wears around her neck. The company is well know for being founded by a very religious person and a lot of those they hire are from local churches, yet the one time a new employee couldn’t accept that my spouse was a male the surrounding staff converged on him, telling him he was acting unacceptable and that we were good people. Same with people in doctor’s offices I go to, some wear crosses they all seem very happy to see me and enjoy our chats. Often keeping me at the desk long after checking in is done to chat about stuff. Maybe it is because I really do care about them and their lives.
Reaching back in the old memories of my senior year of schooling at the SDA church boarding school I remember they taught us … and you shall know them by their actions. I love watching the Rev Ed Trevors and even though I don’t share his religion I do share his views on how to treat others or how to live a good life. Maybe the Christian god doesn’t need me to believe in him to accept the way he wanted others treated to be the way I treat them. But the OT haters want me stoned to death. Hugs
