POLITICO: USDA halts millions of dollars worth of deliveries to food banks

I am sitting in the car waiting for Ron to get his Brian MRI for dementia. I got my own blood work done as the doctor checks for the salt wasting and cancer signs. Won’t that be fun if I end up having cancer just when Ron gets diagnosed with dementia. Hugs. Kamyk is still in the ICU fighting pneumonia and sepsis so of course his family is arguing over what to call him. He hates his first name, it is the same as his father which he feels abused him and is a narcissist. He chose the name Kamyk pronounced Camick or Kamick. Soft kay sound, am then followed by ick. I guess the father feels slighted with everyone calling him Kamyk and I noticed his sisters have gone back to calling him by his dead name. I told them how I felt about it and that I wouldn’t dead name him until I heard from him that he wanted me to. Hugs

USDA halts millions of dollars worth of deliveries to food banks
The halt in deliveries comes after the Trump administration separately slashed $1 billion for schools and food banks to buy food from farms.

  1. Siiiiggghhhh … guess I better send our food bank a check. Sheesh. At this rate, everyone in the country ought to be getting huge tax refunds, since services we’ve already paid for are being halted.

Not to mention checks for the money we’ve all paid in to Social Security, since they seem to be going to put a stop to it. They need to remember they have to pay us that back.

    1. Hi Ali. The part about the money from the organizations is something I have heard people talking about. Since the money had been already granted by congress but not spent where is it. It doesn’t go back to the treasury. So where is it going, who is controlling it? Has it become a tRump slush fund? Is it being spent illegally on these immigrations stuff, ice, flights, the 6 million paid to El Salvador. As for food many people here are putting in small vegetable gardens. Sadly I do not care for most vegetables. But Ron has been thinking we need to do it. The cutting money to food banks is hurting the economy where the money would be spent and hurts the farmers who won’t be able to sell as much of their product. It is like food aid done by USAID, they paid the farmers for their food, and snap uses the same thing, it helps the farmers sell milk and produce. Hugs

      1. You may enjoy more than you think you do, Scottie! Many vegetable greens (the part most people throw away) are delicious, both to eat as salads, steamed, or roasted, then also they dry well to make seasonings. Just a thought, because you love salads! And, many veggies taste so much better raw from the garden than they do classically prepared, so there’s that. You may find some new stuff to eat!

Many home gardeners do a thing called “Plant A Row For The Hungry,” and donate part of their crops to their local banks/pantries. Stuff you don’t care for can go to your food bank. Easy-peasy!

Gardening is relaxing for brains. I have black thumbs, but have helped before, and it is nice. Not like petting a doggy, but sort of, in its way. It could be good for both yours and Ron’s brains to garden. Just some initial thoughts, not being bossy.

        1. Hi Ali. You have great suggestions. And you’re never bossy so don’t worry about. I enjoy you speaking your mind. We have a rather nice larger backyard so we could do something and a chain link fence to put tall stuff against. But was also have a flooding problem back there during rainy season and hurricanes. Plus we have a bunch of rabbits, armadillos, and possums that run around the place. We would have to carefully mesh wire anything we planted. I have a green thumb but learned I am allergic to most growing things. It will up my allergies to work even a small garden. The alternative is to use planter boxes next to the north side of the house or along the front east side which won’t really look that good. Hugs
