I’m Pleased That ICT has PRIDE

So many old friends in Wichita deplore the conservatism, and yes, there are more voters voting Republican than Dem (though their Dem party is healthy.) Yet, Wichita loves everyone, and I love that! If you’re lucky the little video player on the page will work, and you can watch the broadcast. https://www.ksn.com/video/ict-big-gay-market-hosts-event-for-3rd-year/9749633

The event celebrated businesses in the LGBTQIA2S+ community.

The event included shopping, art, music, resources and in-person opportunities to help the community.

“When we have celebrations such as the Big Gay Market, it’s another place to show that we’re here and we’re not going anywhere,” said George Ibarra.

The event was from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, the second day of pride month.

  1. George’s and my first year in Oklahoma we decided to go up to Wichita to go to the Big Gay Market…and fell in love with the people there. Thanks for reminding me of a wonderful weekend trip.

    1. The good people are so very good! Even the not as good people will still more likely help than hurt. sigh
I just think the Big Gay Market is a cool thing! Every year it makes me smile.

  2. Hi. Ali I love you post these you do about inclusion in different places. I never suspected that Kansas would be so open and welcoming for the LGBTQ+ community. So often we hear of laws passed in the middle of the country red states that are so anti / hateful toward the LGBTQ+ people. I guess there are good people everywhere struggling to make the world better by fighting for rights and equality for everyone in the most small minorities. Hugs

    1. Well, the laws are indeed hateful, and too many people still believe the kitty litter on the school supplies list is for furries and not for mess cleanup (blood, in cases of shootings, but also other things; kiddoes barf really gross stuff.) But the general day-to-day interactions with people tend to show that most of us are good-hearted.

There are some who are not, but I’ve always said that for everyone who’d step over a person who fell on the sidewalk, three more people would help that person get up and get whatever care they might need, and get them where they were going. It ain’t Canada by any stretch, but our manners are generally good! 🙂

      1. Hi Ali. Sometimes the best way to show how to be a good person is to be a good person to others. The best way to create a friend is to be a friend. Maybe the best way to create a good person is to be a good person? Just a thought as Belle says. Hugs
