Here in Tucson the county and city officials are dealing with mysterious company who wants to open a data center that will instantly become the largest user of electricity in the region, and swear they’ll use 100% reclaimed water….in two years, after the build the needed pipeline to their (by then) running data center. Until then they’ll be using water from our water supply, aka drinking water. In the midst of a historic drought. (oh and the potable water use will be equivalent to ‘4 golf courses annually’, and the reclaimed water they’ll use, eventually, probably means the end of the Sweetwater Wetlands .)
And they’ve made everyone sign NDA’s so wee the stinky pipples don’t even know who they are, or what this glorious ‘data center’ will be doing. With our tax dollars, because they want to build it on county land.
all for the enormous benefit of:
180 jobs. In a metro area of > 1 million people.
to make AI slop or mine crypto. Maybe. They won’t tell us.

Hi Bruce. You are so correct to be upset and worried about this. What Musk is doing to Memphis Tennessee is what you are looking at. The ruining of your air and water plus quality of life simply so a wealthy company can either run a new AI project or a new data center. I have noticed that these projects use secrecy and misinformation to mask what they are really doing until the project is up and running where it is too late for the public to stop it. Plus the promised pie in the sky employment and revenue numbers never happen because these centers don’t need many local workers. A few janitors or sanitation workers is mostly it. It is again a scam done by the wealthy to gain even more wealth without oversight or benefit to the local community. I hope your community can stop or mitigate the damage. Hugs
