In keeping with my promise to the blog community and to Ron I started supper early

I decided I wanted grilled cheese sandwiches.  So at four PM I started supper.  And yes I made far too many as I can only eat one or one and half.  But here are the steps I go through to make good cheesy thick grilled cheese and ham sandwiches.

I start with getting all the ingrediance out and ready.

If you notice I have already buttered the bread.  I is important to use real butter and not a substitute as the substitutes burn before the bread is toasted, the cheese melted, and the ham hot.   Now to build the sandwiches.

First the cheese on the bread.

I used two different cheeses on on each side of the bread.  Swiss and the other side colby Jack.  Then two slices of ham.

Then the rest of the cheese.

Then grill to perfection.

But again I made too many.  I ate 1 and a half sandwiches.   I wish Ron was here he would eat the rest.  Hugs

  1. The freezer is your friend! You can reheat partially in the micro, then toast in the oven. Or, I love them cold, almost as well as hot! A slice of tomato inside that, by the cheese-holy cow! I hope you enjoyed yours, Scottie! Two weeks, and I can eat one. I’ve already written it down to remember to make myself one-thanks! And I’m glad you ate.

    1. Hi Ali. As to the freezer there is a slight problem. See I went shopping twice and shopped like Ron was here to eat as well. Then I made all that sauce and other foods. The freezer is full. The sandwiches I figure I will eat one a day until they are gone. I still have two freezer dishes to store so I plan to cook a bag of french fries and a bag of chicken strips to make room. I have four pounds of hamburger to freeze, and why I bought four pounds I have no idea. I saw it and thought it was a good deal. I have a package of four pork chops to freeze as well. So I have to stop cooking in such large batches. I don’t care for cold food so I heat it up in the microwave. I think the solution is to stop buying for a while and eat more. Ron might like the tomato Idea but I wouldn’t. The only two ways I can eat tomatos, cooked as a red sauce or stewed. Hugs

      1. I am sorry about the tomatoes. I never thought of putting a slice or two of tomato on a grilled cheese until I saw it on the menu of the place DH and I used to go when we were over in another town. It was a 3-cheese grilled cheese, with not-thin but not-thick sliced tomato. It hit my taste buds as I read it, so I ordered it, and holy cow was it really good. Just like yours, except tomato instead of ham. A different taste sensation. Even I don’t make it quite as good as theirs was, but I use fat-free cheese and only one slice because caloriesssss. 🙂 Anyway, just a thought but not if you don’t like it. And I’m sorry about the freezer.

I remember when the kid moved away to college, I was in the grocery store, picking up all the usual, then it occurred to me: he doesn’t need a care package, and I don’t need these items (he’s a picky eater.) While it was hitting me a friend who works there walked by, asked if everything was OK. I told her I was shopping then realized the kid moving away would affect what I buy. She started laughing, saying she got it, she did the same thing at first when her kids moved out. It was kind of funny; sort of like, “what do I do now?” I put much of it back, but kept some for the upcoming care package. Funny what we do!
