Why the political worldviews of young men and women are increasingly diverging | DW Analysis

To me as I listened to the video it became clear that the real issue is how a lot of this is driven on the male side from the era where men look at it as their entitlement to the best looking most attractive women they are attracted to, but can not have.  So they feel women are the real enemy, rather than the system that is denying each gender of equality.  Why do incels feel entitled to a female, a woman that is to please them as they demand / wish?  Because for far too much of history that was how men were taught to look at women, taught that females were to be used, subjected to their whim, to keep them happy but not really a person like they are.  They don’t see women as full humans like them.   The day that men and women see each other as equal will be the day all this conflict dies.  Hugs.  Scottie

Young men are more likely than women to drop out of college, commit suicide, and support far-right parties. But while misogynistic influencers like Andrew Tate are correctly blamed for fueling the incel manosphere’s backlash against feminism, there is a lot more to this story than incels, culture wars and wokeness. From stagnant economies and unaffordable housing to fears of cultural obsolescence, young men are grappling with a myriad of challenges that seldom enter the public discourse. So what is really behind the growing political rift between Gen Z Boys and Girls?

In the video we talk to Richard Reeves, Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution and author of the book “Of Boys and Men” where he explores all the ways in which the modern male is struggling. Alice Evans, visiting scholar at Stanford University, who is travelling around the world to study this divide and makes the point that lagging economies, corporate algorhythms, and patriarchal mentality can explain this backlash. And Neil Shyminsky, Professor at Cambrian College and famous on TikTok as @professorneil, who sees in Influencers like Andrew Tate as a main threat.

Why it’s hard for Americans to retire

This video starts out talking to people with higher incomes than most of the working public.  Most make less than a living wage, are paid barely over the minimum allowed by law, some have short or weird day shifts requiring the hold of multiple jobs.  Millions of people can not work to gain retirement.  I was lucky, I worked a high paying job in my mid 20s to early 30s.  That meant I get the same as my husband, who worked in low paying jobs and then as a CNAA in a hospital.  Retiring at 67 and 3 months a man who after a 12 hour shift could barely walk and was worn out.  Retirement shrank our income drastically but it saved his life I think.  Only the high paid people can save, as the video says towards the end the rest of us need everything and more to survive.  Life shouldn’t be a drudgery for most until death, and a grand time for the few, but in the US profit is king.  Those companies need that retirement money for higher dividends and more profit for the wealthy.   What the video doesn’t mention is those other countries pay more, have better social services, and much less costly medical systems for the public.   Hugs.  Scottie

There’s a reason so many of us don’t have enough retirement savings.

Vox sat down with people in our New York City studio to talk to them about the state of their retirement savings. By the standards of most financial experts, Americans are woefully behind on saving for retirement. The reason why is rooted in changes in policy to our retirement system with today’s result being a flawed design in how people set aside money so they can one day stop working. In this video, we interviewed four people about their level of retirement preparedness and two experts about the state of retirement readiness more broadly in the US. One culprit lies in changes to the country’s pension system, which sets the US apart from countries like Australia and the UK; these places have systems which help more people save more money for retirement.

McConnell Walks Away | Trump’s Creepy Putin Infatuation | House GOP’s Russian Spy Scandal

Stephen puts aside politics to acknowledge Mitch McConnell’s big announcement, the former PM of Australia confirmed that Trump is obsessed with Vladimir Putin, and the star witness in the House GOP’s impeachment case against President Biden took bogus intelligence from Russian spies and was arrested for lying to the FBI.

The GOP Has A Plan! It Will Backfire!

Everything that Tengrain says is true.  But it is not new.  Remember Netanyahu pulled this during the Obama administration.   Currently he brags how he has for decades screwed over the US government and how he can make the US congress / republicans do anything he wants.   Why??? Well the Israeli government lobby in the US spends millions on millions on every congressional race, trying to get only pro Israel candidates elected.   Yet while the ultra pro Israel lobby has billions of dollars to spend influences US elections, the US taxpayers give Israel about 4 billion a year plus all the military support they want.  Does that make sense?  To Israel, they see the US as an ATM they can abuse and take all they want.   Hugs.  Scottie

An Uncomfortable Fact

I realize many people who come here also may go there.   Roger is a well read accomplish author who is well versed on history and is up to date with much going on in the world.   Please go to his blog and read his report on the Sudan crisis and the suffering of the people there.  Man’s inhumanity towards each other knows no bounds or depth, but seems endless.   Hugs.  Scottie

White-opia – The MAGA Secession Paradise!

For all the Trump fans who keep talking about seceding from the US – this is the way….

Some old ones I won’t get to do long posts on.

Mighty Christian of this first one.  Good old republican Christian concern and caring.  Hugs.  Scottie

Read the full article.
The bill’s author, state Sen. Jay Trumbull, previously appeared here for his successful bill allowing medical professionals to refuse to treat LGBTQ patients. Last year, he authored a bill allowing businesses to sue to block local LGBTQ rights ordinances and other regulations.
Of note, the lead attorney in the lawsuit is Roberta Kaplan, who is best known to most as E. Jean Carroll’s attorney. Kaplan was also Edith Windsor’s attorney in the landmark Supreme Court ruling on DOMA.
Read the full article. Per the report, Jackson continues to call himself a retired admiral even though he was demoted to captain.
This is quite a story and as you’d expect a portion of their ideology centers against LGBTQ people.

OK with this first batch I am trying to reduce the 74 posts window I have open.  I have to start shrinking these windows.  That means I can not go deep in depth on each thing I think is important to share.  So for a few days I am going to shotgun a bunch of older stuff out.  Do I expect everyone to read all of them?   NO!  What I hope is people see story titles that interest them, open them, and follow the story which is what I do.  So expect a few more of these as I clear out old tabs.  Hugs.  Scottie

How and why

White Evangelicals and Race | Belief It Or Not

Are Christians against Racism?

Legislature passes bill mandating history of communism classes

This is the teaching of ideology, republican capitalism ideology, something republicans keep claiming they are trying to wipe out in schools.  We can not teach comparative ideas of systems or how anything including capitalism can be taken to unhealthy extremes.  Plus this law mandates stressing how bad and harmful communism is, which means stressing how great republican strongman democracy backed by run away capitalism is.   In Florida you can not teach anything in public schools that might make straight white cis Christian kids uncomfortable (or their parents unhappy) such as the truth about racism and how it still is in effect today or how some people are not straight cis or even Christian.   But none of these laws including this one doesn’t apply to any private or voucher school.  Just public ones?  Why because poor disadvantaged kids go to public schools, so let’s force right wing Christian nationalism white supremacy on to these kids.   Hugs.  Scottie

Rep. Ashley Gantt raised questions about what would be included, at what point a deep dive into totalitarianism would be “age appropriate,” and why voucher-funded schools are exempted from this requirement.

Rep. Anna Eskamani noted that the Legislature had established bans for discussions of diversity and sociology, and “in the context of what’s happening in K-12 schools,” she claimed the legislation was based on “teaching that a political ideology is bad” rather than a good-faith comparative study of ideologies.

Ahead of the final passage, Democrats floated amendments the day before to try to expand the bill to include analysis of “McCarthyism” and how the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol Riots could lead to communism, but these did not make the final product.

The sponsor says this is not ‘indoctrination.’

The mistakes made by the Soviets, the Chinese and other communist regimes are one step closer to being part of Florida K-12 classrooms.

The House passed by a 106-7 vote SB 1264, a “History of Communism” product previously passed by a 25-7 vote in the Senate, putting the bill on a path for a Gov. Ron DeSantis signature.

Ahead of the vote, some Democrats sought to knock the bill down, while Republicans and one Democrat loved it up.

Rep. Bruce Antone, a Democrat, rose in support of the bill until he was reminded he was speaking during the block of time reserved for opposition.0

Rep. Chuck Brannan, closing on his bill, said the real purpose was to address concerns of Florida’s “diverse communities” of refugees from communist countries, not to “indoctrinate anybody or promote fear mongering.”

Students in traditional public and charter K-12 schools are on track to receive instruction on the history of communism beginning in the 2026-27 academic year in what is billed as an age-appropriate and developmentally appropriate way.

The bill would also compel the creation of a museum of history of communism, create the Institute for Freedom in Americas at Miami Dade College, and rename the Adam Smith Center for Study of Economic Freedom as the Adam Smith Center for Economic Freedom.

There is a key party

..split on these bills among actual voters, meanwhile.

Polling conducted by Sachs Media found Republicans were overwhelmingly supportive (74%) of an effort to teach K-12 students about the “horrors of communism.” By comparison, only 41% of Democrats believe kids need a crash course on Soviet genocide.

Ahead of the final passage, Democrats floated amendments the day before to try to expand the bill to include analysis of “McCarthyism” and how the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol Riots could lead to communism, but these did not make the final product.

When I was a senior at Lake Worth High School, in 1964, the state of Florida required us to take a 6-week course in Americanism vs. Communism. One of the textbooks was J Edgar Hoover’s Masters of Deceit. Not a lot seems to have changed.

Florida Fascism pretends five year olds can understand economics, but not that LGBT people exist.

We aren’t allowed to explain in the classroom why Billy has two daddies because their poor innocent minds are not developed enough yet to comprehend it, but we can tell them about Communism.

Too young to learn about love, but old enough to learn about complex economic theory? Okay. Fuckers.

The fact that kindergarten friend Johnny has two moms? VERBOTEN!

Advanced socio-political/economic theory for a system of government not a single country in the world actually practices? Totes appropriate for a 5yo, sure.

obviously, the object is not to actually teach the kids anything – it is to establish that communism == bad, so that democrats can then be accused of being communists

They’ll say something like “communism is the destruction of America and evil democrats love communism “

And yet Fascism will be left off the curriculum. Not surprised, just noting it.

There aren’t communists in the USA. Fascists, however, we have plenty of and they are working pretty damn hard to overthrow our democracy.

Eventually resulting in a ban on the Democratic Party.

This.
They are trying to turn kids against Democrats early.

Hey, but what if it makes some of the kindergartners feel bad? I thought that was the cult excuse for banning accurate teaching of US history.

Oh. I assumed that they would teach the tykes something like “Communism is anything that the Republicans hate”.

Probably teaching raw fear and disinformation on base levels before they can process any of it.

Not a single one of these morons could even define what communism means.

If you fed them 6 beers, they’d define it as ‘Blacks’.

Half a beer, and they’d define it as Blacks.

And Browns.

They will tell them that sharing is communism. I’m sure that will go over well with the parent’s.
“Billy, share your toys with your brother!”
“But mommy, the teacher said that’s COMMUNISM!”

The parents will eventually be denounced, for not being anti-Communists.

I’m confused. Are they going to teach the little children about sharing–and how bad it is?

To be followed in Sunday school with “What Jeebus ACTUALLY Meant”.

are they going to teach the little ones how the communist leaders seized power just like the GQP is trying to do?

So in classes where we used to teach kids that sharing and treating others with courtesy are important we’re going to tell them they’re all on their own.

Technically, that is the American way, the wholly rugged individual Fuck You nonsense. I know many (I’d like to think most) Americans don’t think that way, but it is a reputation that the US has promoted over the decades.

I think this is the indoctrination the right keeps talking about.

Brought to you by people who couldn’t distinguish between communism, Marxism, totalitarianism and socialism if their lives depended on it.

I wonder how the curriculum is going to handle the whole cult leader thing. Then again, self-awareness is not a MAGA strong suit while immunity to cognitive dissonance is.

They should also do a live-action demonstration of that cartoon about capitalism, with one guy with one cookie, one guy with no cookies and the capitalist with a pile of cookies saying to the first guy, “Hey, that other guy wants to steal your cookie!”.

not to “indoctrinate anybody or promote fear mongering.”
– so, it’s an indoctrination class.

Rep. Chuck Brannan, closing on his bill, said the real purpose was to
address concerns of Florida’s “diverse communities” of refugees from
communist countries, not to “indoctrinate anybody or promote fear
mongering.”

I thought taking diversity into consideration was illegal in Florida.
