Rep. Swalwell: ‘Parents Want Us On Offense’ On Gun Safety

The congressman uses the phrase “gun discipline” instead of gun control.   I like that idea.    Hugs

WOW: Furious Beto O’Rourke interrupts Greg Abbott’s press conference, SHREDS him, gets escorted out

For those hard of hearing some one in the crowd starts saying “GOP – Guns Of the People” and the crowd picks it up.   I had to struggle to understand what Beto was saying but he was saying it was on those in power on the stage, and at this political event where those Republicans are calling for more guns in schools, armed teachers, and chock points of access and exit, calling for making schools into prisons, one guys bellows “I cannot believe you come here to make this political, you sick son of a bitch”!   In other words the guy was saying don’t steal out thunder.   Hugs

Furious NBA coach gives MUST-SEE response to shooting, STORMS OFF

He says 50 Senators more interested in holding on to their own power than they care about our children won’t even allow a vote on the background legislation (HR8 that 90% of US public wants approved) that has been sitting there for two years from the House.   Republicans have shown they can pass bills outlawing LGBTQ+ books and what they think is CRT when they want.   They could pass this if they wanted to save the kids.   Hugs

Let’s talk about grain, Ukraine, and messaging….

Please notice the framing, a coalition of the willing.   Where have we heard that before?  Iraq when the US gathered nations to help attack / invade Iraq.   This video is about a group of nations that have decided to go into the black sea and take on the Russian fleet to clear out the blockade so that the ships can get to Odesa and allow shipping of the grain that is needed to feed Europe and other areas.   The issue is that Russian ships have been steal the grain and taking it back to Russia.   A lot of it is already gone.    So for those that say NATO nations cannot get involved they are already done the prep work and it is going to happen, this is simply letting the world know they are going to do it.   One name not on the list is the US, but I bet they are in there somewhere.    If the US doesn’t have a nuclear sub sitting in the Black Sea I would be veery surprised.    Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy said at the start of the war that it would only be a matter of time before the other nations came in, so why wait and let more die as the nations hesitated.   I said the other nations would have to go in and assist Ukraine.   Now that Europe is looking at their people going hungry and the problems with nations that depend on the food for Ukraine not getting that food, they are willing to act militarily.    The US will not stay out of this for long.  What will be interesting to see is what Russia does when combined fleets of a coalition of nations shows up to open that port for the Ukrainians.   Even if you don’t like Beau, this is worth a listen.    Hugs

On the Horrific Texas Shooting

Not a standard video from me but almost felt like it might seem like I was ignoring the tragedy in Texas (much like our sorry ass government assuredly will) if I didn’t say something so…here’s something. Might heart goes out to everyone affected. Also just because I know people might be curious I’m in the UK for eventual book-writing reasons but the fruits of that labor are a long way off yet so…yeah. Anyway love yuns.

Supreme Court Strips Legal Challenge Rights From Wrongfully Convicted Inmates

A new Supreme Court decision will strip American citizens of more rights as the conservative majority ruled in the Shinn v. Martinez Ramirez convicts on death row could still face execution and indefinite imprisonment even if they were given inadequate legal representation during their state court trials. The liberal dissenting justices slammed the decision as it will leave little options available to convicts who did not receive proper legal counsel at the state level, disproportionately affecting the poor and people of color.

“Legal experts responded with alarm Monday to a ruling from the U.S. Supreme Court’s right-wing majority that could lead to the indefinite imprisonment and even execution of people who argue their lawyers didn’t provide adequate representation after convictions in state court. Justice Sonia Sotomayor—joined by the other two liberals on the court—also blasted the majority opinion in Shinn v. Martinez Ramirez, writing in her scathing dissent that the decision is both “perverse” and “illogical.” The case involved two men, David Martinez Ramirez and Barry Lee Jones, who are on death row in Arizona. The majority determined that inmates can’t present new evidence in federal court to support a claim that their post-conviction attorney in state court was ineffective, in violation of the Sixth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which affirms the right to “the assistance of counsel” in all criminal prosecutions.”

An Ohio man with links to the Islamic State

An Ohio man with links to the Islamic State (ISIS) named Shihab Ahmed is in federal custody for reportedly plotting to smuggle multiple ISIS operatives into the United States through the southern border in order to assassinate former President George W. Bush.

“An ISIS-linked operative is reportedly in federal custody for plotting to assassinate former President George W. Bush. NBC News’ Tom Winter, citing court documents and law enforcement officials, reported on Tuesday that Shihab Ahmed Shihab “is in custody after the FBI says he wanted to smuggle 4-6 individuals from Iraq into the United States through the Mexico border to kill” Bush. Forbes’ Thomas Brewster first reported on Tuesday that Shihab “had been in the U.S. since 2020 and had an asylum application pending, according to the FBI’s search-warrant application.” The outlet reported that “federal agents used two different confidential sources to investigate the plot, one who claimed to offer assistance obtaining false immigration and identification documents, the second a purported customer of the alleged people smuggler, who was willing to pay thousands of dollars to bring his family into the country.””

A Warsaw, Indiana, pastor who drew a standing ovation from his congregation after telling them he was stepping down because he committed adultery with one person at least two decades ago drew their wrath minutes later after a woman tearfully alleged she was only 16 when the pastor took her virginity on his office floor while she sported a purity ring.

Pastor John Lowe II told his congregation at New Life Christian Church and World Outreach on Sunday that he needed to make the confession because it was the “biblical” thing to do, according to a Facebook Live broadcast shared by Maisey Cook.

“I committed adultery. It was nearly 20 years ago. It continued far too long. It involved one person, and there has been no other nor any other situations of unbecoming conduct for the last 20 years. I will not use the Bible to defend, deflect, protect my past sin. I have no defense. I committed adultery,” Lowe said without sharing any specifics.

“I say it plainly. I didn’t have an issue. I didn’t have an affair. I didn’t make a misjudgment. I sinned. I need to say that, and you deserve to hear it,” he continued.

Lowe, who has been in full-time ministry for more than 37 years, confessed that he had no good reason for waiting for as long as he did to tell the congregation. He painted himself as a hypocrite who applied discipline to others for sexual failure while hiding his own.

He asked the church for their forgiveness and announced that he would step aside and face discipline from the church.

“In accordance with our church bylaws, I’m stepping aside, stepping down from ministry responsibilities,” he said to applause as he departed from the pulpit.

Soon after he stepped down from the pulpit, a woman and her husband went to the pulpit to address the congregation. The woman said that what Lowe did was not just adultery but a crime because she was only 16 when he took her virginity in his office 27 years ago.

While the age of consent in Indiana is 16, a person who is at least the age of 18 in a position of supervision or trust that engages in any sexual activity with a child over the age of 16 but under the age of 18 commits child seduction, according to state law. It comes with a maximum penalty of 1.5 years in prison; and up to a $10,000 fine. Prosecution for this crime must begin before the victim reaches 31.

“For 27 years, I lived in a prison. It was not 20 years. I lived in a prison of lies and shame, lied to protect the Lowe family,” the woman said. “For years, I thought I was a horrible person having suicidal thoughts, not realizing what had been truly done to me.”

The woman said she was triggered to confront her abuser after her older brother asked her two weeks ago about the time he saw her in bed with their pastor.

“I was a victim, and I would still be in a prison if my brother … had not approached me just two weeks ago with what he had seen as a teenager that bothered him all these years — his pastor in bed with his younger sister, a t-shirt and underwear on,” she detailed.

“People knew but were too afraid to come forward. And they have now. The lies and the manipulation they have to stop,” she added. “I was just 16 when you took my virginity on your office floor. Do you remember that? I know you do, and I have plenty of other stories that I can bring to your remembrance. You did things to my teenage body that should have never been done.”

“I tried to tell someone. But all that was done was cover-up,” she added. “No one ever came to me. No one ever got me counseling.”

The woman also alleged that other young girls were abused by other leaders in the church, and they were “sent away.”

The woman’s husband told the congregation that Lowe started grooming his wife at 15 or 16 and continued having sex with her for nine years.

“I will not let this man talk about my wife like that. It happened for nine years. When she was 15, 16, the sexual grooming started. And it lasted until she met me, and we started dating. This is the truth, and that’s all we’re going to say,” he said.

The husband presented a necklace his wife was given as a ministry gift by the pastor. He also gave back his wife’s purity ring to the church.

“We’re working through love and forgiveness, but people have to be held accountable,” he said. “They can’t just bamboozle people and say, ‘Well, I just committed adultery.’ It was far beyond adultery. So here’s your covenant purity ring back. I don’t want it in my home. We’re done.”

The husband concluded by dropping the microphone on the pulpit to the stunned congregation.

After the couple finished, the tide of support for the pastor quickly turned to anger.

Voices began erupting from the audience, saying, “If you did it, you need to admit it.”

An older woman is seen embracing the weeping victim.

Lowe took the microphone and confirmed that he began having sex with the victim when she was a teenager.

“You should have went to prison,” a voice shouted back at him.

“It was wrong. … I can’t make it right,” Lowe said. “All I can do is ask your forgiveness. … I’m doing what the biblical process is. I am stepping down, stepping aside. … I deeply hurt them, I deeply hurt you. I ask you to forgive me.”

As of Monday afternoon, the church’s website still lists Lowe as pastor. Other members of the Lowe family are also listed in leadership positions.

‘We’re Failing Ourselves’: 15 Die In Texas Before Buffalo Shooting Victims Are Buried

Fmr. Rep. David Jolly and Nicolle Wallace discusses the shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas in which fourteen students and one teacher have died. “They are still burying the dead in Buffalo, New York … We are a country that does not finish burying the dead from one mass shooting before we are drawn into another one,” remarks Nicolle Wallace. Jolly opined on America’s lack of gun legislation, saying that “If more guns made us safer, we’d be the safest country in the world. We’re not.”

‘Why Are You Here?’ Sen. Murphy Begs Colleagues To Compromise On Gun Legislation

Sen. Chris Murphy D-Conn., became emotional on the Senate floor begging his Republican colleagues to compromise on gun legislation following the shooting at a Texas elementary school. He compared the Uvalde shooting to Sandy Hook, and said, “This only happens in this country and no where else.”
