Supreme Court Strips Legal Challenge Rights From Wrongfully Convicted Inmates
“Legal experts responded with alarm Monday to a ruling from the U.S. Supreme Court’s right-wing majority that could lead to the indefinite imprisonment and even execution of people who argue their lawyers didn’t provide adequate representation after convictions in state court. Justice Sonia Sotomayor—joined by the other two liberals on the court—also blasted the majority opinion in Shinn v. Martinez Ramirez, writing in her scathing dissent that the decision is both “perverse” and “illogical.” The case involved two men, David Martinez Ramirez and Barry Lee Jones, who are on death row in Arizona. The majority determined that inmates can’t present new evidence in federal court to support a claim that their post-conviction attorney in state court was ineffective, in violation of the Sixth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which affirms the right to “the assistance of counsel” in all criminal prosecutions.”

“Republican Senate candidate David Perdue (R-GA) tore into Stacey Abrams while campaigning on Monday and accused her of “demeaning her own race.” “When she told Black farmers you don’t need to be on the farm, when she told Black workers in hospitality and all this you don’t need to be … she is demeaning her own race when it comes to that,” Perdue said on The John Fredricks radio show. “I am really over this. She should never be considered material for governor,” he continued. Perdue would face Abrams in the general election in November for governor but is unlikely to win his primary against incumbent Republican Governor Brian Kemp. Perdue, who has been endorsed by former President Donald Trump, has been trailing Kemp by as much as 30 points in the polls.”

“An ISIS-linked operative is reportedly in federal custody for plotting to assassinate former President George W. Bush. NBC News’ Tom Winter, citing court documents and law enforcement officials, reported on Tuesday that Shihab Ahmed Shihab “is in custody after the FBI says he wanted to smuggle 4-6 individuals from Iraq into the United States through the Mexico border to kill” Bush. Forbes’ Thomas Brewster first reported on Tuesday that Shihab “had been in the U.S. since 2020 and had an asylum application pending, according to the FBI’s search-warrant application.” The outlet reported that “federal agents used two different confidential sources to investigate the plot, one who claimed to offer assistance obtaining false immigration and identification documents, the second a purported customer of the alleged people smuggler, who was willing to pay thousands of dollars to bring his family into the country.””
Perdue Makes Racist Remarks About Stacey Abrams
This rich white entitled racist asshole. I watched her full statement. She listed off the many ways Georgia was behind in the country like the states ranking in education and healthcare and she said it was not the best place. She was telling the truth based on facts and she was saying there is room for improvement. But Republicans hate the truth. Also Perdue made a comment in the full version of this attack about how Abrams wanted the black workers to leave the fields and black workers to leave their jobs implying she was telling them not to work which is the Republican fantasy that all blacks live on welfare. She was asking them to take time off to vote. But this asshole Perdue made the comment that black people needed to stay out in the fields as it that was their place assigned by god. On she is not from Georgia she was born in Wisconsin and lived there for 18 months. She moved to Georgia as a child and she has made enough money to move if she did not love the state. Really makes her a carpet bagger. Hugs

Former Senator David Perdue ended his Trump-inspired campaign for governor of Georgia with a racist appeal to Republican primary voters on Monday, accusing Stacey Abrams, the Black woman who is the presumptive Democratic nominee, of “demeaning her own race” in how she has described the state’s problems.
Speaking to an overwhelmingly white crowd, Mr. Perdue trained his ire on Ms. Abrams, who narrowly lost the 2018 governor’s race to Gov. Brian Kemp, the Republican whom Mr. Perdue is vying to unseat in Tuesday’s primary.
“Did you all see what Stacey said this weekend?” Mr. Perdue said from the stage. “She said that Georgia is the worst place in the country to live. Hey, she ain’t from here. Let her go back to where she came from. She doesn’t like it here.”

I think it’s more that he’s talking to stupid people, which is not necessarily a stupid strategy. The people he’s talking to will never fact-check anything.
Racists exist, they’ve always existed, we just need to vote and keep them out of office. If they get in, or remain in office – that’s on us.
He has a point. Ms. Abrams has only lived in GA for about 32 of her 48 years, making her a minor prior to living there. We all know that children always decide where their parents will reside.

This is nothing but a desperate attempt by someone WAY behind in the polls to get some media attention. He’s not going to win the primary. He’s irrelevant. That said, the fact that no Republicans are standing up against crap like this is more than enough evidence (like we needed more) that the GQP is a racist part. Or a party that panders to racists, as if those two things are actually different.

Walker Busted In Lie About Founding Veterans “Charity”
This guy lies so often I think he wouldn’t know the truth if he tripped over it. How the Republicans in Georgia support him is beyond me. He has domestic abuse charges, admits pulling a gun on his wife, has lied about everything in his life, has a certified mental illness and brain damage. But he has two things they really want. He has an R next to his name and he is black which they need because the guy he is running against is a black man also. Hugs

In interviews and campaign appearances, the former Dallas Cowboy and Heisman Trophy winner takes credit for founding, co-founding and sometimes operating a program called Patriot Support. The program, he says, has taken him to military bases all over the world.
But corporate documents, court records and Senate disclosures reviewed by The Associated Press tell a more complicated story. Together they present a portrait of a celebrity spokesman who overstated his role in a for-profit program that is alleged to have preyed upon veterans and service members while defrauding the government.
But Patriot Support is not a charity. It’s a for-profit program specifically marketed to veterans that is offered by Universal Health Services, one of the largest hospital chains in the U.S. Walker wasn’t the program’s founder, either. It was created 11 years before Universal Health Services says it hired Walker as a spokesman, which paid him a salary of $331,000 last year.
