‘Hateful’ anti-LGBTQ graduation speech at Ohio high school sparks outrage
These people just will not stop preaching their religious church doctrines to captive audiences in inappropriate times. Plus this is the real indoctrinating of children that the right keeps claiming is happening. Funny the school made the video private so they did not want it getting out but some of it has. Hugs
A high school graduation speech telling students to “choose a spouse” based on “biblical principles” is sparking outrage online.
“Choose a spouse, I suggest,” alumnus Jim McGuire said in a commencement address at River Valley High School in Caledonia, Ohio. “I also strongly suggest to make sure to choose biblical principles, you know a male with a female and female with a male.”
Caledonia, about an hour north of Columbus, had a population of 560 in the 2020 census.
Since the speech last week, McGuire’s remarks have been called “hateful” and “inappropriate.”
Alexis Osipow, a 2018 River Valley graduate who was at the ceremony to support her younger sister, told the local newspaper, the Marion Star, “When he made the comment that marriage should only be between a man and a woman, my jaw dropped to the floor, and I honestly thought I was hearing it wrong.”
“I had to look around and see if other people were having the same reaction that I was, and they were,” she continued. “I felt like crying when I heard some people in the crowd clapping. But I was absolutely outraged and so were my parents and brother. I heard people behind me whispering about how inappropriate the comment was as well.”
River Valley High School made the video of the graduation ceremony private, but portions of McGuire’s speech circulated on social media platforms.
One Twitter user wrote, “He made himself the center of attention instead of the graduates and their accomplishments. He should take his ignorant views back to the 1950s.”
One user on Facebook shared a post with a clip of McGuire’s speech and a caption asking the administration to address the “hateful speech.” The user also extended sympathy to LGBTQ graduates, writing, “I am sorry this hateful speech overshadowed your amazing achievements and this incredibly special milestone in your lives.
McGuire, a business owner and board member of the Marion County Board of Developmental Disabilities, told NBC News in an email, “My speech was not anti-anything. There was not a negative word or statement in speech to anyone or organization … Being positive is who I am.”
He also shared a statement he sent to the high school, in which he said, “I truly had the best interests of the Graduates in mind; the Graduates were my audience.”
The school administration released a statement Monday saying: “The speech was not reviewed by anyone on the River Valley Administrative team or Board of Education. Any views expressed by the speaker during his commencement speech reflected his personal beliefs. He was not speaking as an official representative of River Valley Local Schools.”
The superintendent of River Valley local schools added, “The alumni speaker was not a member of the River Valley staff and he was not speaking as an official representative of River Valley Local Schools.”

Ben Shapiro: The Reason So Many Children Die By Gun Violence Is That “They Cannot Carry Guns” [VIDEO]
“When he [Biden] suggests that more children are dying by gun than on-duty police officers, maybe one of the reasons for that is because — you know, I spot a couple of differentiators.
“One of them is that on-duty police officers carry guns, kids cannot carry guns nor should they, obviously.
“But, the point is that people who are protected tend not to get shot as often. Even in the most dangerous situations they tend not to get shot quite as often because they can protect themselves. So he’s making directly the case that he supposedly opposes.
“This, by the way, is the case that Democrats are consistently making, is the idea that even a lawful, law-abiding person who knows how to use his gun isn’t capable of stopping a bad guy with a gun – which, of course, is untrue.
“I’m unaware of any situation in which the threat of a good guy with a gun has not ended a situation with a bad guy with a gun. Do folks on the left just think that bad guys randomly give up their guns when they get bored or tired?
“That’s not how any of this works.” – Ben Shapiro, going on to claim that the “multiple guns” in his home make his own children safer.

Wtf is wrong with these people. What kind of world do they want to live in???
Can’t think of an example of ‘good guys with guns’ not stopping a shooting? Really, not even this week, Shapiro? Funny.

They are so desperate to support the NRA & gun profits! My father, WW2 veteran, said “I saw too many guns in the “WAR”, I don’t need to see them here!”

Which is why police officers never get shot.
Life is just like “Walker, Texas Ranger.” I expect I could take down six armed assailants, no sweat.
Strawmanning. That’s all that is. Biden was quite clear in his speech last night and that speech outlined the view of most Democrats. Few are advocating for an all-out bad on all guns. So he’s just lying. We want a ban on AR-15s and similar weapons, better background checks. A waiting period might be nice (giving people a chance to cool off before committing acts of violence. And raising the age to 21 is a good idea. Those are all practical ideas that are popular with Americans. So of course right wingers don’t want to argue against those proposals, you know the ones that are actually in bills that are being considered. No. They want to rail against things that are not in any current bill and not being proposed by any prominent Democrat. This is just bullshit.
Ya asshole every 9 year old should be packin’ What a ridiculous ill thought dumb

School yard fights hit different in Ben’s world. Recess gunfights is what he wants.

Ohio House Bans Transgender Students In Sports, Requires Genital Exams In Disputes
This has two parts. The story from the HuffPost then some more information from Joe my God about the woman pushing it. Notice this is for all ages. And it doesn’t matter that there was already a policy in place that went by the science and test results, the new one is driven by anti-trans hate and basically religion. This legislator hates the LGBTQ+ and wants to outlaw them. I have three other stories to post on LGBTQ+ bigotry today including on GOP candidate that wants to ban the evil pride month. When are these people going to understand they cannot force all of us to live by their church rules? There god is not my god. But they sure will die trying to. Hugs
“I struggle to understand why we keep discussing bills focusing on children’s genitals,” said one Democratic legislator.
Ohio House Republicans passed a bill late Tuesday that bans all transgender students from playing high school and college sports, and requires genital exams in any disputes.
Representatives voted on House Bill 151 on the first day of Pride Month. The measure next goes to the Senate after lawmakers return from summer recess. If the bill becomes law, it would take precedence over all current policies by high school and college sports associations.
The existing association policies, which aim to protect medical privacy and stress inclusion, take into account testosterone levels or the length of time an athlete has been transitioning, Cleveland.com reported. The new bill calls for an outright ban on transgender athletes.
Under the measure, if a player’s sex is disputed, he or she will have to present a physician’s statement about “internal and external reproductive anatomy” and testosterone levels. Students would also have to show an analysis of genetic makeup.
During a hearing on the bill, Rep. Beth Liston, a Columbus-area Democrat and physician, called the amendment “state-sanctioned bullying.”
“This is truly bizarre medically and nonsensical, but looking at it practically, this bill means that if anyone decides to question a child’s true gender, that child must undergo a sensitive exam,” Liston said.
“I struggle to understand why we keep discussing bills focusing on children’s genitals,” Liston added.
According to Equality Ohio and the Ohio High School Athletic Association, there is only one transgender athlete in the entire state who is participating in high school sports, per ABC affiliate News 5 TV.
“Being able to play on the girl’s team is absolutely amazing, it’s a total dream,” said Ember, a softball player and high school junior. “I feel at home and I can be myself. I don’t have to put on the mask or pretend to be someone else to enjoy the sport that I love.”
The Meidas Touch political action committee tweeted a copy of the bill Thursday, and critics were incensed:

Read the full article. The sponsor of the amendment, Rep. Jena Powell [photo], last appeared on JMG in November 2021 when she introduced a Texas-style ban on abortion that allows private citizens to sue anyone who performs or promotes the procedure.
Her anti-trans actions have earned her an appearance on hate group leader Tony Perkins’ podcast, where she was hailed as “courageous.”
Her first appearance here came in July last year when she sued to stop Ohio from promoting COVID vaccinations via a lottery contest.
Powell, who has appeared on clips for Liberty University’s far-right Falkirk Center and on multiple anti-vax webcasts, brandishes a shotgun in her campaign ads.
Another Republican for government that’s small enough to inspect your child’s genitalia. 🤦🏻♂️
Jean-Marc Canada – ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ • 20 minutes ago
How is this not sexual assault by the state?
Fake Fucking Jesus Christ!
Every priest, pastor, and closet case will be volunteering to do the inspecting. Conservative legislators got hard even thinking about it!
What happens when they find an individual who is intersex (of the sort with ambiguous genitalia) but hasn’t declared anything publicly?
Correcting the headline:
Ohio makes it legal for the government to sexually violate Transgender kids
Michael Smith_90125 • 42 minutes ago • edited
Remove the word “transgender” to make your headline accurate. The legislation allows ANYONE to challenge ANY school athlete’s gender.
That’s why the first targets of this law should be the children and grandchildren of Republicans in the Ohio General Assembly.

Hmmm… But what if there are athletes that are trans that don’t IDENTIFY as trans? Perhaps we should strip ALL elementary and middle school and high school athletes naked in a room together and photograph and document their genitalia, just to make sure we have only penises competing against penises and only vaginas competing against vaginas…
Cuz that’s the point of this bill, isn’t it? To give a bunch a pedos a reason to ogle naked children?
I’ve lived in the Deep South. That’s why we decided to settle in Ohio, but now the Deep South has followed us here. 😦
Rep. Jena Powell seems obsessed with children’s genitalia. Doesn’t that make her a pedophile? Not that I’m saying she IS, but some people might think that… (With no apologies using using Trump’s “I don’t know personally but…” smear tactic.)
The wheels are coming off. No country can function with people like this making up 1/2 the population.

*rubs between his eyes*
They accuse the “libs’ of being groomers & they now can force children to strip and present their genitals on demand…
A little math: [I made the assumption that no one is having a fit over pre-teen trans athletes.] The CDC estimates that 1.8% of the high school population is trans, giving them 270,000 trans high school students in the US. Don’t know if it’s correct, but let’s assume they are evenly divided male and female, giving 135,000 MTF high schoolers. Human Rights campaign estimates 12% of transgender girls play sports, 16,200. Twenty four thousand high schools in the US, so each high school has approximately 2/3 of an MTF athlete. This just doesn’t seem like a burning issue, as might be suggested by the hysteria to pass laws limiting sports participation.
I think there’s a reasonable question to be asked about bone growth and addition of muscle mass, before transitioning M to F. But this is not how that question is going to be determined. And it’s not going to be answered, or even asked, by hysterical or simply publicity hungry lawmakers.

To be fair, they must check the genitals of all athletes. See how long parents let that stand.
They sure can find ways to protect children against imaginary threats. Against guns, not so much.
As long as there is a large bloc of voters who will tolerate any level of crazy in ‘their’ Republican candidate because the best Democrat is worse than the worst Republican…..
And, transgender children are the most vulnerable. Of course they attack them, first.
Will they be doing hymen checks on the pom-pom girls?

FL Fifth Grader Charged With Mass Shooting Threat
I watched this this weekend watching the Sunday morning news shows. I live in North Fort Myers, next to Cape Coral. I had to take three days off from the news. I tried to come back to it yesterday, but it still was too much. Making a fresh stab at it today, word choice deliberate. This is a 10 year old boy. The police / sheriff’s departments in Florida are militarized. They treat the public as if they are all criminals to be ruled over. If you are not white you are screwed. This wouldn’t have happened to a little white boy. But here was a 10 year old that made a text (or maybe a couple) to a friend of a pile of cash with four assault weapons and wrote “Get ready for water day” with a funny emoji”.
Have people lost their minds! Because Republicans refuse to address the real issue of mass shootings such as Canada is doing, we get this from the Sheriff’s office.
“Right now is not the time to act like a little delinquent. It’s not funny. This child made a fake threat, and now he’s experiencing real consequences,” said Sheriff Carmine Marceno.

Seriously a 10 year old makes a stupid statement because he wanted attention and figured it would be cool needs a talking to and some punishment like an essay to understand what he did wrong. Giving him a criminal record when his brain has not yet figured out how to kiss yet is horrific. He did not have the guns and had no ability to get them. Think on that. No ability to get them. He could have said he was going to drive a Ferrari to school also, would they have arrested him for that. I am terrified the US is becoming a police state where kids’ lives don’t matter, adults’ lives don’t matter, the only things that matter to the Republican elected office holders is the money they get from big money donors that allows them to stay in power, and those big money donors only care about more profit. People no longer matter in the US, money does. Profit does. Don’t have money, you don’t matter, go sleep under a bridge and starve to death. Even the for-profit mega churches don’t feed or clothe the poor. The Pastor needs more profit. The state and federal government leave that job to the very poor people that have to band together to help the poorest among them. The public has two roles in our society. Buy things to make profit for businesses and work to make profit for the business. If you cannot do either one you have no worth to the upper class and they want you to go away, get out of the way, but whatever you do don’t you dare cost them profit. So a 10 year old starts in the school to prison pipeline because adults are freaking out and the right refuses to do what makes sense. Give a little kid an arrest record so everyone will think the worst of him for life. Hell let’s put him in prison now, why wait, that will show him not to say anything he had no idea of what would happen. Shit I cannot deal with adults right now. Look at this little kid! Be adults! Address the real issue and not ruin the life of a dumb kid. Hugs

Sheriff Carmine Marceno said, “This student’s behavior is sickening, especially after the recent tragedy in Uvalde, Texas. Making sure our children are safe is paramount. We will have law and order in our schools! My team didn’t hesitate one second… NOT ONE SECOND, to investigate this threat.”

From the Lee County Sheriff’s Office:
On Saturday, May 28, 2022, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office learned of a threatening text message sent by a fifth grade student at Patriot Elementary School in Cape Coral. The School Threat Enforcement Team was immediately notified and began analytical research.
Due to the nature of the incident, the Youth Services Criminal Investigations Division assumed the case. Detectives interviewed the suspect, Daniel Issac Marquez (DOB 10/01/2011), and developed probable cause for his arrest.
Daniel Isaac Marquez was charged with Making a Written Threat to Conduct a Mass Shooting.
The Hill reports:
“This student’s behavior is sickening, especially after the recent tragedy in Uvalde, Texas,” Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno (R) said in a statement. Marceno, who brands himself as Florida’s “law and order” sheriff, said the boy who allegedly sent the threatening text message would face “real consequences.”
Marceno’s office also posted a video of a boy who appears to be the fifth grader walking out of the sheriff’s office in handcuffs. “Right now is not the time to act like a little delinquent,” said Marceno.
“It’s not funny. This child made a fake threat, and now he’s experiencing real consequences. Making sure our children are safe is paramount. We will have law and order in our schools! My team didn’t hesitate one second…NOT ONE SECOND, to investigate this threat.”
In the second video below from earlier this week, Marceno condemns federal aid to Ukraine that could have been spent on “hardening schools.”
Marceno was first elected as sheriff in 2020 after being appointed to then-Gov. Rick Scott in 2018 upon the retirement of his predecessor.
His “we are going to kill you” message below has gone viral on right wing sites. Expect this guy to run for Congress.
Lee County, population 750,000, has a $200 million annual police budget.
That tableau is horrifying. What the everloving fuck is up with the whole Stormtrooper look in law enforcement now?
I take it we civilians are, at best, considered to be a militarily-occupied populace, and at worst, enemy combatants.

“They could have been shot”. That’s a quote from one of the leaders, explaining why they waited 78 minutes to go in.
RemusL Todd20036 • 14 hours ago
“make up”? No, they just want to change the narrative. I read somewhere that there are more LEOs assigned to Florida schools than anywhere else in the country. And has that increased police presence resulted in ANY school shooting being stopped?
John Conley BeccaM • 15 hours ago
Could not agree more. I looked at that first photo and thought it was a still from Starship Troopers, with the Sheriff just photoshopped in.
And yes, it was the parents in Uvalde who were apparently considered the enemy combatants (at least one woman was handcuffed briefly, before she was able to run into the school and rescue her two children … while the police were busy harassing other parents … while the gunman was killing their children with no police obstruction for more than an hour).
If my local sheriff and his officers presented themselves like that at a press conference, I would seriously consider getting the hell out of Dodge.

What this child did was stupid, and possibly he meant it, but he’s a fifth grader and they released his name and pictures?? Would they have released all this if his last name was Harrington, and not Marquez?
WTF?
evanedwards Tim 🇺🇦 • 15 hours ago
Yeah, the kid is 10 years old. What he did was incredibly stupid, but I would argue that most 10 year-olds are incredibly stupid in that they are both emotionally and intellectually immature. I’m not sure ruining his entire life serves any valid purpose.

Of course no one could have suspected that having a massacre every other week could led to fifth graders dreaming on the Internet of being powerful and waving guns around in their very own drama.

Yep. They’re definitely ready for miscreant 10 year olds. I assume all those weapons are loaded. Never know who’s sitting in the front row of one of those press briefings. Maybe even an 11 year old! They’re 10% more dangerous than a 10 year old.
