Cheney Calls On GOP To Denounce White Nationalism

The New York Times reports:

In just the past year, Republican luminaries like Newt Gingrich and Elise Stefanik, the center-right New York congresswoman turned Trump acolyte (and third-ranking House Republican), have echoed replacement theory. Appearing on Fox, Mr. Gingrich declared that leftists were attempting to “drown” out “classic Americans.”

In September, Ms. Stefanik released a campaign ad on Facebook claiming that Democrats were plotting “a PERMANENT ELECTION INSURRECTION” by granting “amnesty” to illegal immigrants, which her ad said would “overthrow our current electorate and create a permanent liberal majority in Washington.”

That same month, Rep. Matt Gaetz wrote on Twitter, “@TuckerCarlson is CORRECT about Replacement Theory as he explains what is happening to America.”  In a statement after the Buffalo shooting, Mr. Gaetz said that he had “never spoken of replacement theory in terms of race.”

Read the full article. Cheney’s tweet, at least in part, appears to be aimed at her successor Stefanik.

Yeah! Republicans are going to denounce their own base? While they’re at it maybe they could denounce their religious extremists and their anti-vaxxers and their conspiracy theorists! LOL!

Gustav2 TampaZeke • 35 minutes ago • edited

After 50 years of coddling this faction, funding and promoting these people because they needed them for power, it is not going to change until they lose a series of Red States governors, etc.

And that ain’t happening soon. Besides this faction now runs the show.

rmthunter TampaZeke • 16 minutes ago

They won’t denounce — they’ll deflect: they’re already claiming the Buffalo shooter is FBI.

Oh, for fuck’s sake, NYTimes. Elise Stefanik is not a “luminary.” She’s an ignorant racist upstate trash heap.

She knows. I think she’s trying to expose this to a broader Republican base that the cuurent GOP are actually super extreme. She is hoping that she can rekindle a return to a more “moderate”/civil Republican base.

Heterosexual Supremacy is the cornerstone of the Republican Party. They didn’t hide their hate. It was straightforward part of the Republican Platform until that platform was chucked in favor of it being “whatever Trump says it is.” . So it should be no surprise that they are now becoming more open about their White Nationalism too.

QAnon AZ Rep Calls Buffalo Shooting Plot By Feds

This bizarre twisting of reality is what is really tearing the country apart and fueling the anger of many.   The complete disconnect from the truth changed to attack your opponents.   Are these the people that should be in elected office making the laws people have to live under?  Do you trust any of these people to make sensible choices about relations with other countries or wars?   I don’t.   Hugs

Rolling Stone reports:

Nick Fuentes — the young white supremacist who also bemoans “white genocide,” leads the Groyper movement online, and organizes the annual America First Political Action Conference (AFPAC) — took to his Telegram channel as news of the killings broke to immediately (and without evidence) insist it was a “false flag” attack.

Arizona state senator Wendy Rogers — a member of the Oath Keepers who has appeared at Fuentes’ AFPAC conference — made a similar claim, conspiratorially suggesting Gendron was a government agent. “Fed boy summer has started in Buffalo,” Rogers wrote in a Telegram post.

Mike Cernovich, the onetime Pizzagate conspiracy theorist who has tweeted that “diversity is code for white genocide,” labored to paint Gendron as an ideological foe of the right, an environmentalist Nazi who fell under “demonic influence.”

Mediaite reports:

A short recap of Rogers’ not-so-greatest hits includes posting an anti-Semitic meme on her Gab and Telegram accounts hours before she spoke at the White nationalist AFPAC conference, getting censured by fellow Republicans in the Arizona Senate, and praising Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson.

In another tweet, she pushed to celebrate Confederate generals on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day days after speaking at a rally for former President Donald Trump, and a raging tweet storm she called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky a “globalist puppet for Soros and the Clintons.”

Why it seems like just yesterday that Trump & the GOP were blaming Jan 6 on ANTIFA, the Democrats, and even the Feds as a false flag operation, refusing to acknowledge it was their own supporters.

Russia’s neighbor has extensive network of bunkers with impressive amenities

Hello all.  Again it is CNN, so don’t even bother with the CC.  I looked on CBS and MSNBC and couldn’t find this information on either site, and I also have one more CNN video I am trying to find else where.

The reason this video is important is it shows what a country can do for its people when it is not giving all the wealth produced in that country to the most wealthy few and large corporations.   Think of the US military spending but we don’t have this which should be part of the military budget IMO.   But this is for the people and saves the people, and it doesn’t make profit for defense contractors or give wealth to the rich.    Finland can do it, but again the US cannot, but we are #1 right.   Hugs

Trump partially restricts himself from using Twitter

https://www.axios.com/2022/05/16/trump-partially-restricts-himself-twitter

So the real question is when tRump gets back on social media will it be politically better for the Democrats or worse.  tRump tends to piss off as many or more people as he energizes.   As he cannot let any grudge go and is constantly rehashing the past grievances I think it will turn off voters more than energize the Republican base.  So I think it is OK if they let tRump back on.  What do you think on this?

Illustration of the Twitter logo growing hair like Donald Trump's, and turning orange.Illustration: Brendan Lynch/Axios

Former President Trump plans to partially restrict himself from using Twitter, according to a new federal securities filing from the blank check company taking his social network, Truth Social, public.

Why it matters: Trump previously said he wouldn’t return to Twitter, even if reinstated by Elon Musk, but many believe it’s a hollow promise.

What the filing says: “President Trump is generally obligated to make any social media post on TruthSocial and may not make the same post on another social media site for 6 hours. Thereafter, he is free to post on any site to which he has access. Thus, TMTG has limited time to benefit from his posts and followers may not find it compelling to use TruthSocial to read his posts that quickly.

In addition, he may make a post from a personal account related to political messaging, political fundraising or get-out-the-vote efforts on any social media site at any time.”

Between the lines: This certainly seems to give Trump a massive out, given the caveat about “political messaging.” But would restrict Trump tweets on purely social issues, business matters, etc.

What to know: Truth Social still isn’t a sure bet to go public, as the blank check company appears to still be under federal securities investigation (per the filing).

The bottom line: This filing was written in a way to hedge in case Trump runs again for president.

Extremist Rep. Paul Gosar: “Ukraine Is Not Our Ally And Russia Is Not Our Enemy, None Of This Is Putin’s Fault”

Dutifully parroted by state media outlet Russia Today:

Republican Rep. Paul Gosar (Arizona) has condemned the push from both parties in Washington to send billions of dollars worth of weapons to Ukraine. Gosar, an immigration hardliner and anti-interventionist, was one of 57 GOP lawmakers to vote against a $40 billion economic and military aid bill for Ukraine on Tuesday.

While a number of Republicans have been vocal in their opposition to fueling a “proxy war” in Ukraine, the GOP establishment has shouted down these critics, with conservative talk show host Mark Levin on Wednesday referring to the anti-war contingent of the party as “Putin a**-kissers.”

“Ukraine is not our ally,” Gosar shot back. “Russia is not our enemy. We need to address our crippling debt, inflation and immigration problems. None of this is Putin’s fault.”

Dahlia Lithwick and Joyce Vance on the Alito Draft

This is audio only about the recent Alito leaked abortion draft.  If you don’t like the opening patter, please skip to the main interview.   There is a lot of valuable information and analysis and something I missed was Alito compared same gender sex to prostitution.    Shows how he views gays and lesbians.    If this ruling stands as he wrote it we are all screwed because he says that if the constitution doesn’t explicitly grant the right, then tradition that his religion supports must be followed.  It is weird to hear how he ignores and hand waves away things that have been said are in the constitution and how he bases his reasoning on his religion more than the constitution.   I have backed this up a dozen times to rehear parts such as how Alito tries hard to push the idea that a fetus is a person with full rights that he then ignores the woman has.   The 14th amendments has always been according to speeches of the time read and by judges to promote the idea that liberty at its core has been to have the right to marry who you love, to have the children be in your home, to not have them taken by others, and basically to refute the entire idea of not just slavery but what it meant to be a person without liberty and control over your own life.    Alito’s ruling tries to destroy that entire concept.   Hugs

In-Depth: Texas teacher questions if she was fired for promoting Christianity to students

District says firing wasn’t related to her faith.

ABILENE, Texas — “I should never have to apologize for Christ,” said Nellie Parrish, a fourth-grade teacher at Wylie Independent School District.

Now, the 20-year veteran teacher is questioning why she won’t be in a classroom next year.

“I had two complaints that were brought up to me from the principal, one was over prayer,” Parrish said.

Parrish went on to say she received another complaint about playing Christian music in her class.

“These claims have been investigated and were unfounded,” said Joey Light, superintendent of Wylie ISD.

Meanwile, Parrish told the school board that she plays a variety of music in the classroom.

“April 14, Ricky Bacon informed me that my contract would not be renewed,” Parrish said.

The teacher went in front of the school board this week.

She used the time to speak about teachers and lack of support.

She also expressed her disappointment in the lack of transparency for her firing.

“I’ve asked repeatedly why I’m being let go,” said Parrish.

“The principal will not answer me.”

Parrish said the school would play Christian music in the cafeteria alongside holding a prayer before football games.

Adding that Light, the district’s superintendent, is known to lead a prayer on the first day of school.

“What has happened to us?” Parrish said.

“We use to stand for our faith,”

People across the community have since come to the defense of the fired teacher, taking to both social media and the school board meeting.

One teacher told the school board members she felt led to pray and read scripture.

“I ask for a fresh lens tonight and that the truth would be seen,” the teacher said.

Prayer in school has been a recent debate in the Supreme Court.

The case involves Joe Kennedy, a former high school football coach who was fired for allegedly pressuring students to perform Christian prayers.

Back in 1962, the Supreme Court ruled that New York state public schools could not begin school days with a state-composed prayer.

The court’s opinion was that the practice violated the First Amendment’s establishment clause since it amounted to government-sponsored religious instruction.

Joe Kennedy, a former assistant high school football coach in Bremerton, Washington, stands outside of the Supreme Court in Washington, D.C., on April 5, 2022. The court has agreed to hear a case he brought against the Bremerton School District that put him on leave after he refused to cease his practice of kneeling on the field for a post-game prayer.

T.J. Kirkpatrick, for the Deseret News

The Supreme Court now leads with more conservative judges and seems to be searching April 25 to rule in favor of a former coach who was fired for praying.

But there was a problem, existing disputes over the coaches’ conduct.

In the United States, Pew research shows a recent sharp decline in Christianity.

  • 65 percent of American adults describe themselves as Christians when asked about their religion, down 12 percentage points over the past decade.
  • Americans now describe their religion as “nothing in particular,” up from 12 percent in 2009. Members of non-Christian religions also have grown modestly as a share of the adult population

So what’s next for the Wylie ISD teacher?
She has since refused to resign and says this can go on her record.

It was also expressed that one Wylie teacher retired early because of a threatened lawsuit.

“We need to stand firm in our principles and faith,” Parrish said.

Since news broke of her firing, Parrish said she feels “blessed” by the response she’s gotten in the following statement:

“Thank you so much to everyone who has reached out. You have no idea how much it means to me and my family. Being a teacher and coach is one of my greatest blessings. I’m so thankful to God for the special amazing students and athletes that he placed in my life. You all have blessed me more than you’ll ever know. Our family appreciates your continued prayers. Blessings to you.”
Nellie Parrish

The Wylie ISD superintendent has since responded, disputing her claims:

“Nellie Parrish’s contract termination was not because of prayer or Christianity,” said Light.

“This is false information and district personnel matters will not be discussed due to privacy,

“District termination policies were followed.”

Her claims are bullshit. They can’t just terminate her for no clear reason. If she was new to that district and still probationary status, they could non-renew her contract. That would make me wonder if she had been released from other districts for similar reasons. Something is missing from this story.

A gentle reminder: Not all Christians proselytize.

I’m married to a devout Christian man. He’s never – in the 48 years we’ve been together – proselytized in any way to me. Like all good and compassionate people of faith, he keeps his personally-held religious beliefs to himself, with no desire to “convert” anyone to anything.

He’s far from alone.

There are many many good and compassionate people of faith.
