Cartoons, for what they are worth.

Wow I forgot how very tiring it is to try to do this.  I need a break.   I started with non-political ones and then got into the darker side.  But I reached my limit of how much my spirit along with my arthritic fingers could take.  See to post each picture takes a bunch of click, moving the mouse around, then using the other hand to lower the page or paste, then repeat.  Anyway enjoy.   Hugs.  Scottie

9 thoughts on “Cartoons, for what they are worth.

  1. I enjoyed many of the cartoons, but some I failed to grasp, possibly because they refer to topics that those outside the US might not be familiar with. There is one that made me feel very uncomfortable because I do not know the circumstances of the cartoonist. Its the “signing for the satirically impaired”. As an autistic, I really struggle with satire, irony and hyperbole, and would find some form of signing very helpful. If the author of the cartoon has similar difficulties, then yes, it is indeed funny as we can laugh along with him. But if not, then what he is doing is laughing at us. I get enough of that already due to my neurological differences. I don’t need any more.

As I am uncomfortable with hugs, do you mind if I sign off with a bowing emoji 🙇 ? I ask because some Westerners are uncomfortable with bowing or offended by it. My wife of 52 years is Japanese and I learnt a long time ago that bowing is a sign of respect and humility and not a sign of servitude or inferiority.

    1. Hi Barry. Thank you for the comment. As for the emoji, yes please use it if you prefer. I want you to feel comfortable here. I do understand things that make a person uncomfortable or cause triggers. As for bowing, I find showing respect for others to be a good thing.

Congratulations on your 52 years of marriage and companionship. That is grand!

As for the cartoon you mention, I want to let you know that the cartoonist is not making fun of you, but trying to address a horrible issue we are having here and recently in Canada. Maga right wing tRump supporters go to comedy clubs and interrupt the comedian if the joke they are telling is something they don’t agree with. They shout insults, try to stop the performance, and in some cases try to attack the comedian. It is horrible. I follow one comedian who posts clips of how his shows that are interrupted by these people and how he has learned to handle them. While this guy is not worried about physical attack for telling jokes the right wing maga cult doesn’t like, in at least one show the guy waited around for nearly two hours to attack the comedian after maga guy was ejected from the theater. These hard core cultist could just save their money and not go to the shows, but their goal is to make comedians too afraid to make jokes the maga cult don’t like, such as jokes about tRump and the stupid anti-woke campaigns. It is almost a terror campaign to get the word out, don’t make fun of the right or else we will stop your show. Best wishes. Scottie

      1. Thank you for the context of that cartoon It makes sense now. Yes I do recall recently watching that YouTube video of the MAGA thug heckling then being ejected and later arrested because of his threatening behaviour.

The use of threatening and intimidating behaviour in the US and Canada with the intent of rolling back human rights of women, ethnic minorities and the LGBTQIA communities is frightening. I didn’t include the autistic community in the previous sentence as we have yet to achieve such rights. What I didn’t realise until today is that just as there are hate groups claiming there is a trans agenda conspiracy, a white replacement conspiracy and 2030 conspiracy and more, there are also hate groups claiming there’s some autism agenda conspiracies such as autistic men pretend to be “normal” in order to marry a “normal” wife and produce autistic children (a variation on the white replacement conspiracy) or autistic people use pattern analysis skills in order to manipulate “normal” people into accepting and accommodating “abnormal” behaviour (a variation of the Trans agenda conspiracy).

It seems that every type of minority is being targeted by one or more hate groups. Even here in Aotearoa, we are beginning to see a rise in intolerance towards LGBTQIA. In our recent general elections, a party with an anti trans message looks to have gained 5 of the 121 seats in our next Parliament. Scary stuff!
        🙇

        1. Hi Barry. I am sorry the hate is spreading. I don’t understand these people who need, who create, and who spread conspiracies just to support hate. How do you hate someone that much just because they are different from you in someway that doesn’t harm you at all? I never realized the hostility, anger, and hate directed at the autistic community. It stuns me, and it baffles me. Most of the hate and bigotry directed at the LGBTQIA community is driven first and foremost by religion, while racism is driven by a need to feel superior to a group you have free rein to abuse, because you deny them rights. But what drives such bigotry and hatred towards the autistic community, towards neurodivergent people? They are not in the bible, and skin color is not a factor, so how can those people hate others who simply were born different? But what ever their reasoning, I will do my best to push back on them when I see it or hear of it. Thank you for explaining these issues to me. Best wishes. Scottie

          1. I’m not persuaded it’s first and foremost religion. That is merely the justification for their position. Here most people are not religious (about 35% are Christians and mostly at the liberal end of the religious spectrum). I think the root cause is distrust or hatred of difference. So differences in skin colour, cultural expression, sexual orientation, gender expression, neurodiversity, political alignment, wealth, even religion itself, are seen as suspicious. I recently even stumbled across a tiny autistic group who hate neurotypical people with a passion and irrationality that’s up there with the likes of MAGA crowd, the proud boys, mom’s for liberty, the NRA and Christian nationalists.

Some people don’t want to acknowledge that different ways of being are just as valid as theirs and will latch onto anything that will justify their position. Often that’s religion, but in this country, much less so than in America. One observation I will make is the further one leans to the right, the less one tends to be accepting of different ways of being.

  2. Ahhhhh(sigh of refreshment)… long time no meme.
    I feel for your troubles.
But I need (in my mind) you to do this when you feel able.
You get meme’s I can’t steal anywhere else.
I got about 6-10 places I steal from and you get some unique ones.
(And again, ONLY WHEN YOU FEEL ABLE)
