Debunking Trump’s Plan to End Birthright Citizenship

“[Trump’s] been very open for a while about how he plans to end this core constitutional principle, end birthright citizenship.” Watch Mehdi Hasan break down the flaws in Donald Trump’s argument against the 14th Amendment.

  1. Everything about tRump’s decisions are flawed. If the man (?) had a brain he would probably be bouncing it off the walls. The question of the ages will go down in history as “How on God’s green earth did so many otherwise intelligent people get so taken in by this charlatan?”

The usual: Greed, fear, and a large component of ‘Otherwise intelligent? [Amy Poheler voice]Really??[/APV]

However The same Taney Supreme Court that decided Plessy v. Ferguson also decided US v. Wong Kim Ark (1898) which came down firmly that the plain text of the 14th Amendment means what it says, and upheld birthright citizenship.

What I truly fear is that the Roberts “Precedent Schmecedent, the President is a King” Court will take this not as precedent, but as a challenge to capture ‘the worst Supreme Court Decision in History’ prize for themselves.

I am certain there are multiple right-wing lawsuits teed up in Texas to fast track the case to SCROTUS right now.

      1. How does any con man manage to fool so many people into believing their version of snake oil will cure everything? I don’t have an answer to that because my own brother, otherwise very intelligent, voted for the idiot. I’m hoping he will take his own advice, or maybe prescription, for curing what ails you and drink a bottle of bleach. Maybe the rest of them will follow example and do the same and it will cure what ails the rest of us. In the meantime, those lawsuits will never make it to SCOTUS under the present — or soon to be present, administration. All laws will be set aside so he can get his revenge on anyone who says anything against him. I’m not expecting to live much longer because I’ve said way too much, but then at least I wouldn’t have to see what he is doing to a once good, um, better country than it has become. I’m still a bit of an optimist, hoping we will all be surprised at how much he doesn’t accomplish, but he is followed by a band of idiots who are worse than he is.

      2. Hi Bruce. Weird fact. If you look at the way that Roberts wrote the opinion, he made tRump the king, gave tRump immunity but … every other president they must decide every case individual. What it means is the big money behind Alito, Thomas, Roberts, Kavanaugh, and possibly Gorsuch wanted tRump to be able to do what every he wanted. I think Alito, Thomas, and Roberts were already deep maga fan members of the cult. That is why things tRump can do Biden couldn’t do as the court was pro tRump pro republicans ideas and bigotries, but not pro democratic presidents. Hugs

    2. Hi Angie. Far too many were single issue voters. Voters who supported abortion so wouldn’t vote for anyone that wanted it under any situation, racist who wouldn’t vote for a black person and wanted brown people removed from authority and the country, misogynist who did not feel women should be in any in a position of authority, and the bigot fundamentalist haters who want a Christian nation run by church doctrine making all LGBTQ+ go away. Then there were the people who screamed that the price of goods were too high forgetting the last year of tRump’s term we were scrambling to find toilet paper and other goods.

These people did not pay attention to anything else nor did they bother to hear what Harris and team were saying. There were the people who wanted the slaughter in Gaza to stop and the US to be more forceful, without seeming to think through what tRump would allow to happen to the Palestinians. They just never bothered to do the work of checking to see if tRump would or could do what he spouted as facts. So they voted for what they hope and believed would be true, instead of what was true. Hugs
