A new lawsuit filed Wednesday is challenging Gov. Greg Abbott’s directive to investigate parents who provide gender-affirming care to their transgender children. The lawsuit was filed by the American Civil Liberties Union and Lambda Legal on behalf of three families, including the Briggle family, who have long been advocates for trans rights, including hosting Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton for dinner with their transgender son.
The lawsuit also seeks to block the state from investigating any families that belong to PFLAG, an advocacy group for parents and family members of LGBTQ+ people.
The state is currently blocked from investigating one family that brought a prior legal challenge. This lawsuit seeks to widen the number of people who cannot be investigated under the directive; according to the filing, PFLAG’s 17 chapters in Texas have over 600 members combined.
At least nine families are currently under investigation for potential child abuse by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services for providing gender-affirming care to their transgender children.
Gender-affirming care is endorsed by all the major medical associations as the proper treatment for gender dysphoria, which is the distress someone can feel when their assigned sex doesn’t align with their gender identity. While many young people focus on social transition — dressing differently or using different pronouns — some are prescribed puberty blockers, which are reversible, or hormone therapy.
In February, Paxton issued a nonbinding legal opinion equating gender-affirming medical care with child abuse. Days later, Abbott followed that opinion with a directive telling DFPS to investigate these cases. The agency said in a statement at the time that it would “follow Texas law … in accordance with Governor Abbott’s directive.”
The ACLU and Lambda Legal sued Abbott and DFPS on behalf of a family under investigation, seeking a court order stopping these investigations more broadly. The Texas Supreme Court ultimately ruled that the court could temporarily stop the investigation into the family that brought the suit, but would not shield all parents of transgender children.
Now, the ACLU and Lambda Legal have brought this new suit on behalf of three specific families and PFLAG, arguing that “every one of PFLAG’s Texas members with a transgender child, or those with children still learning who they are, is at substantial risk of harm.”
“For nearly 50 years, PFLAG parents have united against government efforts to harm their LGBTQ+ kids,” said Brian K. Bond, executive director of PFLAG National. “By going after trans kids and their families, Gov. Abbott has picked a fight with thousands of families in Texas and across the country who are united as members of PFLAG National.”
According to the lawsuit, a 16-year-old transgender boy tried to kill himself the same day that Abbott issued the child abuse directive.
“[He] said that the political environment, including Abbott’s Letter, and being misgendered at school, led him to take these actions,” the lawsuit said.
He survived the attempt and was admitted to an outpatient psychiatric facility, where staff learned that he was undergoing hormone therapy. A week after he was discharged, an investigator from DFPS visited the family’s home and, according to the lawsuit, said that the psychiatric facility had reported the family for child abuse. The family remains under investigation.
This is complete bullshit. Investigating families for child abuse because they are following proscribed medical treatment advocated for by the majority of medical organizations. It is harassment. Imagine doing this for families that allow boys to pierce their ears, or any child to get other piercings. Imagine doing this for allowing your kids to color their hair. It could be anything the republican rabid right dislikes. They no longer care about medical science or harming kids and families. While the gun control debate has been at the center of political discourse for almost a month now, some right-wingers aren’t letting Pride Month pass by without sharing their bigoted views towards the LGBTQ+ community. Former child actor Ricky Schroder is convinced demons and the devil are to blame for the gay community and Texas’ Republican state Rep. “Two weeks after a gunman armed with a semiautomatic rifle and hundreds of rounds of ammunition massacred 19 children and two adults at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, a Republican state lawmaker announced that he is taking action—against drag shows. State Rep. Bryan Slaton said Monday he intends to file legislation “protecting kids from drag shows and other inappropriate displays” when the next legislative session begins.
While Republicans in the state and in Washington, D.C. have not been driven to make AR-15s and other semiautomatic weapons inaccessible to Americans after any of the more than 300 school shootings that have taken place since the Columbine High School attack in 1999—or other high-profile mass shootings in other settings—Slaton claimed to be so disturbed by photos of a child at a drag show in Dallas over the weekend that he saw no choice but to act.
“This is disgusting and dangerous. It can’t be allowed to continue,” Slaton tweeted. “My Republican colleagues and I will protect kids from these sickos.””

As I said in a recent post these hyper religious anti-LGBTQ+ should be careful complaining about men with beards reading and talking with children. As a father of two young children, I would never take my children to a drag show and I know Speaker Dade Phelan and the rest of my Republican colleagues wouldn’t either.
Protecting our own children isn’t enough, and our responsibility as lawmakers extends to the sexualization that is happening across Texas.
I promised my voters that I would stand up for their values and fight to protect Texas kids.
I was re-elected on that promise and I intend to keep it by authoring legislation to defend kids from being subjected to drag shows and other inappropriate events.

Slaton, who is fond of making public appearances carrying an assault weapon and wearing a belt of ammunition, first appeared on JMG in March 2021 when he introduced a bill making abortion a death penalty crime for doctors and even women who undergo the procedure.

While a huge crowd was gathering in Fair Park for the first day of Dallas Pride weekend and the Miller Lite Music Festival, a handful of right-wingers hit The Strip on Cedar Springs today (Saturday, June 4) to protest …. well, something.
The protesters reportedly gathered first in front of Mr. Misster, at the corner of Cedar Springs Road and Reagan Street before Dallas police officers forced them to move across Reagan to the sidewalk in front of the fire station.
Activist Cannon Brown, who was at the scene, said the protesters were there to rally against a drag queen story hour happening at Mr. Misster. “They were there to scream at kids,” Brown said on Facebook, noting that some were Roman Catholics who were “actually behaved and just chanting the rosary. It’s the Infowars/fascist crowd that is problematic.”
The group, described by Brown in a Facebook post as “christofascists,” carried signs vaguely resembling the Texas flag and the U.S. flag along with a large white flag with some sort of X symbol in red, and a gold-and-white flag with some symbol in the center. The size of the group has changed over the course of their protest, but Brown said it averaged about 20.
Photos show one protester carrying a sign declaring “confuse a child, abuse a child,” and another had a sign shouting “stop groomers.” Yet another demands, “Stop exploiting our kids.” And, in what is apparently a swipe at the rainbow power of Pride Month, one woman wore a black T-shirt with a block of rainbow colors saying “rainbow revival.”

A spokesperson for the extremists claimed to Dallas’s ABC News affiliate that police removed children from show. That didn’t happen. The bar reports having gotten hundreds of threatening emails. Some of the tweets below are from far-right extremists.
I want to respond to the religious asshole in the above video. He starts out making a claim about doing something to between boys legs, then he makes a comment about letting children near men in dresses. Has this pious asshole threatening parents with children which is traumatizing the kids ever looked at the pictures in his church? What does he think Jesus and the disciples wore, three piece suits?

“A transgender man says that Matt Walsh is using his image without permission for a transphobic documentary. He also says that Twitter refused to remove the trailer for the documentary in which his photo appears.
The Daily Dot previously reported that Walsh was behind a fake company duping trans people into being interviewed for a documentary. Walsh tweeted the trailer for that documentary, What is a Woman?, on May 14. The right-wing site Walsh works for, the Daily Wire, produced it.
In a follow-up tweet, Walsh added that they intentionally chose to release the documentary on the first day of Pride Month.
Walsh is a conservative figure who often attacks people who don’t conform to his ideas of what comprises the proper expression of gender and sexuality. This year he’s been on a mission, in his words, to wage “an all out assault on gender ideology.”

This candidate doesn’t even pretend to hedge her belief in this. Yet these same people in this same party are demanding these same teachers be armed to protect children even when the police cannot. All so they can keep their gun fetish. Because that is what it is if you reject common sense regulations, it is a fetish. The Republican party is / has become the party of hate and disinformation. These people think that teachers of the youngest grades are organizing gender swapping sex orgies. In their minds little kids are being made to strip off all their clothing and notice in every story they are always little boys, and then instructed in sexual acts. The teacher taught acceptance of alternative non-heterosexual lifestyles instead of screaming no, no, no never boys must only marry girls and only kiss girls or the great sky daddy will destroy the planet! That is what terrifies the right and what they want to outlaw, so they have to make it as unpleasant and horrible as possible by changing it to the teacher telling the boys to line up, pull their pants down, and suck each other’s dicks.

They don’t want kids to be taught that people can be of different religions and it is OK, that people can have different kinds of families and it is OK, that two boys or two girls can fall in love and it is OK. That calling a person by a different pronoun is the right thing if they ask you to do so, and it is OK. No, they demand we indoctrinate kids that an impossible global flood happened, that the earth is only 6 thousand years old despite the evidence, that god created a man and woman from dirt just as they are, magic is real and good when our god does it, and evil and bad when someone else’s god does it or a human does it.
They want their bible to be the new textbooks and their religion to be what all society and understanding to be based on. Anything else is indoctrination and child abuse. They are violent thugs that are willing to use threats and intimidation to get their way while claiming they are victims of cancel culture who are not allowed to get their racist bigoted hate speech out to the public.
