DeSantis Reverses, Allows Orders Of Vaccine For Kids

I am not willing to tolerate anymore that the vaccines are not safe or shouldn’t be given.   Yes a year or two ago when they were new then OK the misinformation could sway people.    That time has passed.   The vaccines are used, they are vetted.   If you think conspiracy theories are real, then you have a fucken problem.   I simply am not willing to entertain the legitimacy of stupid.   Hugs

McClatchy reports:

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is now allowing healthcare providers — including pediatricians and children’s hospitals — to order COVID-19 vaccines from a federal program for children between six months and 5 years old, a reversal from earlier this week when providers were prevented from pre-ordering doses.

The DeSantis administration is pushing back aggressively against the notion that its position has changed, with a spokesperson from the Florida Department of Health telling McClatchy that it never planned on preventing private healthcare providers from ordering doses.

Extremist Pastor Claims Patriot Front Are Secretly Antifa Even Though At Least One Of Them Attends His Church

What really scares me beyond the violent ideas and seemingly in love with that violence this guy is, I have some people I really care about in this region of the country.  To those in this region of the country please be safe, and know I care about you.   Hugs

Religion News Service reports:

Shortly after 31 members of a white nationalist group were arrested in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, over the weekend, pastor and former Washington state lawmaker Matt Shea claimed on Facebook the men were members of antifa, or anti-fascist demonstrators.

“This attempted ambush from antifa was thwarted,” said Shea, who has previously espoused Christian nationalism and has suggested replacing the existing U.S. government with a form of theocracy. Not only was Shea’s antifa claim untrue, at least one of the arrested men attended Shea’s own church within the last year.

Shea last appeared on JMG in March 2022 when he was involved in a suspicious attempt to “rescue” Ukrainian children.

He first earned national headlines in 2019 when leaked chats showed his violent fantasies about executing non-Christians and when it was learned that he had participated in militia drills to train young men for “biblical warfare.”

Shea advocates for the creation of a 51st US state based on “biblical law.” He has also said that all American men who fail to avow allegiance to Jesus should be executed.

He was expelled by the Washington state Republican caucus but refused to resign even after the feds found that he had “participated in an act of domestic terrorism against the United States” by helping plan the armed takeover of the Malheur Wildlife Refuge in Oregon in 2016.

He did not seek reelection in 2020 and is now the pastor of Covenant Christian Church in Spokane.

So, if Democrats win an election there’s voter fraud and it’s a stolen election.
If Republicans win, it’s all fair and legal.
If rioters get caught it’s Antifa.
If rioters get away with it they’re patriots.

DeSantis says Florida is ‘affirmatively against’ Covid-19 vaccines for young kids

https://www.politico.com/news/2022/06/16/desantis-covid-vaccine-florida-kids-fda-00040191

This is both irresponsible and will lead to child deaths, plus promote more Covid virus among the public and it makes no sense.  Parents with sick infants and children.   Sorry deniers, the science is settled and the data shows the vaccines are safe and effective.   The people who DeathSantis is playing to are a dying breed, really dying.   I am getting less and less willing to entertain those who deny the data and science simply because Tucker or Hannity say it is not true.  I am getting tired of the outright lying by the right wing media.   Florida is the only state, the only state think on that, that did not pre order the vaccines for this age group.   Even every other red state preordered the vaccines.  I want to be very clear that DeathSantis lies that young kids do not get Covid, many do and many die, and those that do not die have lifelong health issues.   This is just a flat out lie dooming so many kids it should be illegal.   They talk about not letting kids read books because it may harm them, but the real harm is sicknesses they could be protected from that they won’t be because of this bullshit.     Hugs

Florida GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis on Thursday railed against providing Covid-19 vaccines to young children, saying Florida will not provide state programs to administer vaccinations for toddlers or infants.

DeSantis, speaking at a press conference in Miami, said that Covid-19 vaccines have not gone through enough testing and clinical trials to determine that they are effective and added that kids are least likely to suffer serious health consequences from Covid.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Johns Hopkins Medicine and the Mayo Clinic have emphasized that the Covid-19 vaccine is safe and has urged the public to get the shot to protect against the virus and prevent serious symptoms.

“I would say we are affirmatively against the Covid vaccine for young kids,” DeSantis said. “These are the people who have zero risk of getting anything.”

Florida is the only state in the nation not to order fresh doses of the vaccine for children ahead of Wednesday’s decision by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to allow two Covid vaccines to be administered to children under 5 years old. The approval fast tracks the vaccine for distribution and kids could start receiving shots as soon as Tuesday.

DeSantis told reporters that the FDA board made its decision to pacify parent’s fears about the virus.

“To do an emergency-use authorization for a six month old or a one year old simply to placate anxiety, that’s not the standard when you’re doing this,” DeSantis said, adding those fears were stoked by the media.

The Florida Department of Health, which is overseen by DeSantis’ office, issued a statement Wednesday saying it did not place an order with the federal government for the vaccine doses because it did not advise that all children become vaccinated.

The state Department of Health is headed by state Surgeon General Joe Ladapo, who is an outspoken critic of the vaccine. He previously said he opposes the use of the vaccine on young kids and has questioned the effectiveness and safety of vaccines.

DeSantis on Thursday also stressed that the state’s decision not to seek help from the federal government to distribute doses earmarked for kids does not mean the state has banned use of the vaccine.

“You are free to choose — that’s not the issue,” he said.

Let’s not forget that DeSantis gets a lot of money from the same outfit that makes Remdesivir. His benefactors/contributors don’t make as much money, if people are already immunized.

There is a cemetery at Black Diamond Mines (now a park) in the East Bay (California). It was used by miners and their families around 1875-1900. It’s heartbreaking to see many of the headstones with the names of many young children from the same family. They died at very early ages, from diphtheria, pertussis, rubella and many other diseases that are now preventable, thanks to vaccines.

Thailand edges closer to legalizing same-sex unions in wake of country’s first pride parade

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-06-16/thailand-inches-closer-to-expanding-lgbtq-rights/101156796

APN Thailand Pride Parade

Thai politicians have passed four different bills on same-sex unions, in what appears to be a step towards Thailand becoming the second territory in Asia to legalise same-gender marriages.

Thailand has one of Asia’s most open and visible LGBTQ+ communities, adding to its image of tolerance and attraction as a liberal holiday destination for foreign tourists.

Earlier this month, thousands of members of Thailand’s LGBTQ+ community raised rainbow flags in the country’s first official parade celebrating pride month and supporting gender equality.

But activists say Thai laws and institutions are yet to reflect changing social attitudes, and still discriminate against LGBTQ+ people and same-sex couples.

The four draft laws approved on Wednesday each seek to provide same-sex partners with almost the same legal rights as heterosexual couples.

The cabinet endorsed two last week that would create a same-sex civil partnership law. Another civil partnership bill from the Democrat Party was also approved.

A more liberal equal marriage bill from the opposition Move Forward party also passed, despite efforts by government whips to vote it down. That draft seeks to replace gendered terms in existing laws and make marriage applicable to all people.

“This is a very good sign,” Chumaporn “Waddao” Taengkliang, of the Rainbow Coalition for Marriage Equality, said in reference to the approval of the bills.

“There should be the same standard for all genders, whether it’s a civil union or marriage.”

Activists call for legal amendments

The Constitutional Court last year ruled Thailand’s current marriage law, which only recognises heterosexual couples, was constitutional, but recommended legislation be expanded to ensure rights of other genders.

So far in Asia, only Taiwan has legalised same-sex unions.

Thai LGBTQ+ activists have criticised the two government-backed bills, arguing there is no need for a special law for same-sex couples, just amendments to make existing laws more inclusive.

The four bills will be deliberated by a 25-member committee, which will decide whether to send any of those, or a consolidated draft, to the house for two more readings, prior to senate then royal approval.

Florida Papers Blast GOP Hypocrisy On Drag Shows

From the Miami Herald editorial board:

In the same week that the Jan. 6 committee unveiled its findings on the attack against American democracy, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and others were more preoccupied with children attending a drag show in Dallas, Texas.

Republicans used the “parents know best” line to pass the “Don’t say gay” bill, which banned instructions in K-3 public school classrooms about sexual orientation and gender identity. Wouldn’t bringing their child to a drag show qualify as parents exercising that autonomy? Republicans, your hypocrisy is showing.

The point of legislation such as we have seen from Floriduh is to provide some cover for christianity Inc. The best way to divert attention from religious people fucking children is for legislators to point fingers at the gay community and now drag queens. There is nothing novel about this as the same play was used in the early seventies by former beauty queen and current whore for christianity Inc, Anita Bryant.

Arkansas “Moms For Liberty” Activist Caught On Tape Musing About “Plowing Down” Local Librarians With Gun

This is what passes as morality from the anti-LGBTQ+ crowd.   Hugs

The Arkansas Times reports:

An audio recording from a recent Moms for Liberty meeting in Cabot captures a group member musing about gunning down a school librarian over tension about what books are appropriate for young readers. The person who captured that audio at a June 9 meeting at Crossroads Cafe in Cabot asked to remain anonymous.

The person said keeping audio records of public meetings is simply their normal practice, but that they decided to share this one because it was disturbing. The person confirmed the voice in the recording belongs to Melissa “Missy” Bosch, the leader of an anti-mask effort in the Cabot School District last year.

Media Matters reports:

In the audio obtained by Media Matters, the chapter’s head of communications and media, Melissa “Missy” Bosch, complained about librarians in the district, saying, “I’m telling you, if I was — any mental issues, they would all be plowed down with a freaking gun by now.”

She was made aware of the recorded audio and took to Facebook falsely claiming it was “illegally recorded” and “illegally spliced.” It wasn’t — Arkansas is a one-party consent state and Media Matters has reviewed the original recording in full.

Bosch also threatened legal action in her post, claiming to know “some fantastic lawyers,” and she said her comments came while she was talking about “making librarians who make 85k a year answer to parents when we ask how sexually explicit books got into the library.”

Media Matters notes that the lawyer Bosch hired for her anti-mask lawsuit also represented…wait for it…Josh Duggar.

In 1976 I was a scared teenager who timidly checked out a book at our local public library entitled “Society and the healthy homosexual” by George Weinberg. It changed my life for the better and I’ll be forever grateful to Mr. Weinberg and also grateful for the fact that I was even able to check that book out in the first place. Baltimore Pride Flag Arson Destroys Several Homes, Three People Seriously Injured, Two In Critical Condition

Baltimore’s CBS News affiliate reports:

A Wednesday morning fire in Baltimore that put three people in the hospital is being investigated as a possible hate crime, authorities told WJZ.

Based on a preliminary investigation, authorities believe someone set fire to at least one Pride flag outside a row home in the 300 block of E. 31st Street and the flames spread to the home and neighboring homes, a Baltimore Police spokesperson said.

Three victims were taken to Shock Trauma for treatment, he said. A 30-year-old woman and 57-year-old man were hospitalized in critical condition, and a 74-year-old man is in serious condition, the Baltimore City Fire Department told WJZ.

Fundamentalist evangelical Christianity and its members are, sadly, a major major factor when it comes to the future of our nation. Ronald Reagan opened the doors of government to them in the early 80s and they poured in.

In the person of Donald Trump they found their perfect puppet. They control him and he controls the vast majority of Republicans today.

My thoughts exactly. Add to that increasing violence, especially political violence and violence directed at minorities, and society at large but especially authorities becoming increasingly tolerant of it. GOP commission refuses to certify New Mexico primary vote

The insurrection continues.   This is what we have been warning people about.   The rabid right has been trying to get themselves into all positions that approve who won the election so they can throw each election to the Republicans and deny any win by a Democrat.   Forget the votes or what the voters want, these people are driven to install their own single party dictatorship and end US democracy.   We all better understand this because already in two swing states the Stop the steal election deniers have won the election oversite positions.  I am listening to Sam Seder talk on this and he makes the actions the Republicans have made to insure this result so clear.    Think in a lot of these states that have more land than people, everyone they know voted for tRump, so how could Biden have possibly won they ask.  Talk about narrowed horizons, if my and my friends did this then everyone must have done it, Right?   Can what is written below be any more clear what these people intend for 2022 and even worse for 2024?   Hugs

New Mexico’s secretary of state on Tuesday asked the state Supreme Court to order the Republican-led commission of rural Otero County to certify primary election results after it refused to do so over distrust of Dominion vote-tallying machines.

Democratic Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Olive’s request came a day after the three-member Otero County commission, in its role as a county canvassing board, voted unanimously against certifying the results of the June 7 primary without raising specific concerns about discrepancies.

The commission’s members include Cowboys for Trump co-founder Couy Griffin, who ascribes to unsubstantiated claims that former President Donald Trump won the 2020 election. Griffin was convicted of illegally entering restricted U.S. Capitol grounds — though not the building — amid the riots on Jan. 6, 2021, and is scheduled for sentencing later this month. He acknowledged that the standoff over this primary could delay the outcome of local election races.

“I have huge concerns with these voting machines,” Otero County Commissioner Vickie Marquardt said Monday. “When I certify stuff that I don’t know is right, I feel like I’m being dishonest because in my heart I don’t know if it is right.”

The commission’s vote is the latest example of how conspiracy theories and misinformation are affecting the integrity of local elections across the U.S. Trump has continued to describe the 2020 election as “rigged” or “stolen,” despite a coalition of top government and industry officials calling it the “most secure in American history.”

Dominion’s systems also have been unjustifiably attacked since the 2020 election by people who embraced the false belief that the election was stolen from Trump. The company has filed defamation lawsuits in response to incorrect and outrageous claims made by high-profile Trump allies.

New Mexico’s Dominion machines have been disparaged repeatedly by David and Erin Clements of Las Cruces in their review of the 2020 election in Otero County and voter registration rolls at the request of the commission. The Clements are traveling advocates for “forensic” reviews of the 2020 election and offer their services as election experts and auditors to local governments. Election officials including County Clerk Robyn Holmes say the Clements are not certified auditors nor experts in election protocols.

The couple has highlighted problems during sporadic, hourslong presentations to the commission this year. Local election officials dispute many of the findings as mistaken or unfounded.

County canvassing boards have until June 17 to certify election results, prior to state certification and preparation of general election ballots.

Under state law, county canvass boards can call on a voting precinct board to address specific discrepancies, but no discrepancies were identified on Monday by the Otero commission.

“The post-election canvassing process is a key component of how we maintain our high levels of election integrity in New Mexico and the Otero County Commission is flaunting that process by appeasing unfounded conspiracy theories and potentially nullifying the votes of every Otero County voter who participated in the primary,” Toulouse Oliver said in a statement. She accused the commission of willful violations of the state election code.

New Mexico uses paper ballots that can be double-checked later in all elections, and also relies on tabulation machines to rapidly tally votes while minimizing human error. Election results also are audited by random samplings to verify levels of accuracy in the vote count.

The Otero County commission voted last week to recount ballots from the statewide primary election by hand, remove state-mandated ballot drop boxes that facilitate absentee voting and discontinue the use of Dominion vote tabulation machines in the general election.

On Monday, Holmes said those instructions from the county commissions conflict with state and federal election law, and that she would only recount the election by hand under a court order.

“The election law does not allow me to hand tally these ballots or to even form a board to do it. I just can’t,” said Holmes, a Republican. “And I’m going to follow the law.”

Holmes noted that the state-owned vote tabulation machines from Dominion are tested by Otero County officials in public view and that the machines also are independently certified in advance. Griffin said he and fellow commissioners don’t see the process as trustworthy.

“That’s a source that we don’t have any control or influence over,” he said.

Mario Jimenez of the progressive watchdog group Common Cause New Mexico said the public can view testing of vote-tallying machines prior to elections in every county, and that certification notices are posted on every machine where voters can see them.

“They have no basis — other than ‘we just don’t trust the machine’ — for not certifying the election,” Jimenez said of the Otero County commissioners.

Though Trump won nearly 62% of the vote in Otero County in 2020, county commissioners have said they are not satisfied with results of the state’s audit of the vote count nor assurances by their Republican county clerk that elections this year will be accurate.

County commissioners could not immediately be reached for comment Tuesday.

Marquardt, the commissioner, laughed Monday at the suggestion that a court might intervene in the election dispute.

“And so then what? They’re going to send us to the pokey?” she said.

A sneak preview of how America’s democratic republic finally ends: Republicans simply refuse to certify any election results they don’t like and disqualify however many hundreds, thousands, or millions of voters it takes for them to declare themselves the winners.

Uncle Mark’s ugly face returns • 2 days ago • edited

Democracies require candidates to accept winning and losing. The problem is we’re beset by a party that refuses to accept losing. The only good thing about this is that this party will also destroy itself from within with its own primaries, as their own childish candidates refuse to concede to their own party’s victors.

The problem is that they’re likely to destroy the process & faith in elections, before turning on each other
