Hi Suze. I agree. We have known since the 1980s that some religious leaders wanted more control of the government and more chances to enrich themselves. It got more strident and forceful every decade. The problem was they knew the power was in the courts and they did everything they could to stack the courts with religious conservative ideologues. Including the SCOTUS with McConnell blocking the black guy from filling a seat on the highest court. But Obama did not think it important enough to fight over. Now we have a theocratic majority on that court who also seem to think tRump and only tRump should be above the law. While a single court in Texas was stopping country wide everything Biden did the religious right on the SCOTUS did nothing to stop it. But these same people on the court are also racist bigots afraid brown people will change their religious culture and control so they give tRump everything he wants. They stopped nationwide injunctions for tRump but not for Biden or Obama. They almost seem scared of tRump ruling over and over twisting themselves into knots to rule in his favor. We are screwed. They want a white Christian straight cis male run society and they are fighting hard to get it. And we that prefer a progressive democracy are losing. Hugs

they are fighting so hard because they are now in a tiny minority so far as actual numbers go…they just get louder and more obnoxious.

Hi Suze. That makes sense. I remember during Covid a lot of church leaders / pastors reported that donations drop drastically when they did virtual sermons instead of having butts in the pews. Seems people put more money in the collection plate when others are looking. Every poll I hear / read says church attendance is falling every year. The younger generations simply are not ready to be believers. Hench the hard push to put their religion in PUBLIC schools where kids with parents of other faiths go to school. It used to be we have school during the week to learn facts, and Sunday school to learn religion. Now the wealthy religious groups want to force their religious teachings into every public classroom. I guess as you say they are not getting the kids in Sunday church sessions. What worries me is they managed over decades to capture the SCOTUS which has ruled for forced Christian indoctrination even when they had to make up a fake scenario to rule on which was not what happened, not what they were asked to decide, and to prove they were lying the descent included pictures. It is a scary lurch because once they get their legal rulings cementing their religious rights to not allow their kids to learn gay kids / people exist how far will it go to support their religious right to hate the LGBTQ+? But also once written into the laws like the anti-medical science hateful anti-trans bans how do we get them out of the laws? Scary times for me, my husaband, and our LGBTQ+ friends. Hugs

and you just know that kids will soon be forced into telling on their neighbors and friends..so those people can be either assimilated into MAGAworld or imprisoned for being different. Aldous Huxley was so correct in his fears of a dystopian world…we are becoming that which he attempted to warn us all. I am just waiting for the day I will be arrested and imprisoned for non-attendance of some MAGA-church…

Hi Suze. Horrible! I looked Aldous Huxley up. He has some grand quotes I will use in my next cartoon / meme post. Thanks. Hugs

I remember JFK’s election, and the days leading up to it. There was extreme hatred for his Catholicism…he was a “Christian” just not the “right kind of Christian”. This attitude just SUCKS!

Hi Suze. I remember how my abusive mother made me come to her and told me I was never allowed to have toy guns as a Kennedy had been shot. I was born in 1963 so I don’t know which one. All I knew then I was so glad she was only making me gather my toys and destroying them / throwing them away instead of punishing me or sexually abusing me. I don’t even know what age I was then.
But speaking of the right kind of Christian I have been getting asked an interesting question in the comments. I have posted so much about bad or negative actions about some people calling themselves Christians, I got told that those people were not “Christians”. My problem is I don’t feel qualified as an atheist and as someone who fights for people to call others by the names along with the pronouns they prefer that I have the right to call anyone not a Christian if they claim to be.
While I am not the judge of who is Christian, I do feel I can judge who is following or if someone is following the words of the Christ. See the bible is not the Christian religion, the Old Testament is the Jewish religion, the Torah. The word Christian is translated as Christ follower. I got a lot of education on what Christ said to do in the year I spent in a Christian boarding school. Yes it was more than a year but it helped me. But they put heavy meaning on what Jesus said along with ever verse saying don’t touch your self, don’t look at others with lust, and don’t be gay at all costs. We were 9th through 12 grades, so for those not US the students were 15 teen to 18 years old. Of course we were “touching ourselves” masturbating and those that took the stuff being said seriously were really hurt by it. The rest of us pleased our self as much as needed and felt better.
My point is I don’t feel comfortable telling someone or labeling someone not a Christian. I don’t feel that is my place. But maybe the god they claim to believe in will explain it to them far better than I can. Hugs

one can only hope, that IF there is a God, he/she/it will explain what religious freedom is to anyone coming up in front of him/her/it. and them smack them one for being idiots. (yea, IF there is a god i8t surely wouldn’t be smacking people…but shooting lightening bolts at em instead)
