True story: Back in the 80’s my wife and I had jobs at the same medical research institute, near White Plains NY (in Westchester county, north of the city)
When Hurricane Gloria hit Long Island we were living in Ossining, NY further north (and right up the road from Sing Sing ); I called work and asked if they were closed or not, they said “Oh yes we’re open as normal“
So we got in our car, drove through the huge downpour from the hurricane, finally got into work, pulled into the parking garage only to have the security guard wave us off. “The Director decided to close today because of the weather, so we’re telling everyone to leave.“
SO back through the huge downpour we drove, arrived home just as it let up, called some friends and had a ‘hurricane party’ and played cards all day.
