Hi Judy. Empathy is a powerful thing. Those who have been treated unfairly or been oppressed tend to have empathy for others who are having it happen to them now. I have never understood those that have no empathy, no ability to put themselves in the shoes of other people. It seems like a very empty way to live. Hugs

Hi Roger. I would add the idea that these older Jewish people are doing this for several reasons. They are in the US so they have empathy for the oppressed unlike the majority of Jewish people in Israel that have no pity or empathy for the Palestinians that their country is slaughterring. They are old enough to either remember those family members who were harmed by the Holocaust or they were taught it deeply in schools and synagogues. But what worries me is what you said about the same motivations. Why do these motivations keep coming back in cycles? Hating others because they are a bit different from you? The ones they hate are still humans, just humans with a different view of life and a different way of living it. If it doesn’t harm the haters personally then what is causing them to hate so? It is something I do not understand. Hugs

I agree these are folk who have the heritage of the burden of suffering discrimination and hate. They know what it is like and how you cope and with pay kindness, respect and compassion when they can.
Israel is a glaring example of where the Hate, Intolerance and Ignorance leads one in which many of those who were antisemitic have played a part in forging. There is a nation which carries its own burdens of heritage of being inflicted with hate, slaughter and ignorance. something like 1000+ years worth. Concentrate that into a population, add to it its own racism, ignorance and hate, mix in with the ever opportunistic politicians and hate-mongers and this is what you get. Accept it or not, We, the People of many nations down the centuries are responsible for the way Israel is. That is a hard truth. Another is that if Israel does not purge itself of this Hate, it will tear itself apart with its own divisions because Hate does not allow rational debate.
Yeah, these motivations. You’ll find them all around the world, with the possible exception of those cultures which live in harsh environments with scattered populations there are no folk whose heritages are not stained with the blood of others, and have also suffered likewise.
Somewhere along the line as we evolved we did not lose hold of the Fight response to everything situation, not rid ourselves of the Fear of folk who are different.
We are a flawed species.

I understand this very very well. I had to work to train that burning hate out of my own emotional make up as it was destroying me and my own life. Again Ron showed me the way I could live a much better life without the burning raging fire of hate consuming me. Hugs

Well done and congratulations to you for dealing with your own hate and rage.
The most difficult and challenging call is to deal with the inner ‘demons’ – I’m still trying to expunge mine, after all these years they still keep sneaking back in.
