LGBTQ+ students get bomb threat after “Libs of TikTok” targeted them with doctored drag video

The right needs to keep the rage going against the people they have made the enemy and to do that they now need to make up even more wild accusations.  They have to feed the rage machine to keep them in power and attention.   So they made up a lie, doctored a video to back it up, and students got targeted by a right wing hater thug who feels entitled to force his views on others by violence.   Hugs

An LGBTQ+ student group in South Dakota received a bomb threat after they hosted a drag show on campus.

“I didn’t find out from [the University Police Department],” Lindsay Tull told The Daily Beast. She’s a member of the Gender and Sexualities Alliance (GSA) at South Dakota State University (SDSU) that was threatened with a bomb. “I found out from the Discord that we have for our board members.”

“I was freaking out because I didn’t know how serious it was and if we were in danger. I was afraid for my friends and if something was going to happen to them.”

The show occurred on November 16 and was advertised as “kid-friendly,” drawing the ire of right-wing activists. The performers said that they made sure that the show was appropriate for all ages – they even bleeped out words from the pop songs they lip synced to – but that didn’t stop anti-LGBTQ+ activist Chaya Raichik from doctoring a video to make the event seem like performers were naked in front of children.

Raichik – who goes by “Libs of TikTok” online – posted video from last year’s event to Twitter on November 18. She used video of a drag queen last year dressed in a nude illusion – layers of clothing designed to look like a naked person – even though last year’s show wasn’t advertised as family-friendly. The drag queen she used in her video didn’t even perform at this year’s show.

“What they did was they spliced together some content from this year with last year’s drag show, which was not advertised in any way as family-friendly,” said another GSA member. “They tried to pass it off as it being part of the same show.”

Then she claimed that the video was from this year’s show to anger her anti-LGBTQ+ followers. Raichik is known for calling out targets on social media so that her followers can send death and bomb threats or call them slurs.

A week later, the school said on its website that it received an email that said, “An explosive device or devices were placed on the campus of South Dakota State University.”

“The email also threatened harm to potential survivors of the detonation,” the site said. “At the time of this warning, no devices have been located. The department will continue investigating the threat and pursing [sic] all leads.”

Faculty advisors for the GSA were told by university officials that their group was the target of the threat, but GSA members say that it took university police two weeks to say something to LGBTQ+ students about the threat.

The GSA had already been facing harassment since they announced the drag show in November. Several conservative Christian organizations – including the Concerned Women of America (CWA) and the Family Heritage Alliance (FHA) – drew attention to the drag event. The CWA called it an “outright assault on our children.”

“Children’s innocence is under attack like never before in our country,” the FHA’s website said. “They are constantly being bombarded with sexually explicit material and radical gender ideology, even through so-called ‘family-friendly’ events like an upcoming drag show in South Dakota.”

The controversy attracted the attention of conservative elected officials. State Rep. Scott Odenbach (R) called it “unbelievable and unacceptable.” State Rep. Chris Karr (R) wrote to SDSU asking them “not to allow children to attend this event.” State Rep. John Hansen (D) said, “Use of taxpayer funds or resources for this event is not appropriate.”

The drag show was not funded by the university.

This led to death threats against the performers in the show, and security was increased. One performer said that everyone just “wanted out” by the end of the show.

The GSA said that around 300 people attended the drag event, more than had ever attended in the past.

This isn’t the first time the right has used this tactic – manipulating images of drag shows to make them seem inappropriate for children. Earlier this year, another rightwing blogger posted a blurred picture of a drag queen’s groin to make it seem like she had exposed herself to children. The drag performer later sued.

Club Q Survivors Testify In Congress About Horrific Nightclub Shooting

Survivors of the Club Q nightclub shooting in Colorado Springs testified about LGBT violence before the House Oversight Committee. Ana Kasparian and Cenk Uygur discuss on The Young Turks.

“It’s been less than a month since an armed attacker shot up an LGBTQ nightclub in Colorado Springs, killing five people and wounding 17.

Two of the survivors of that mass shooting, as well as a co-owner of Club Q, testified on Capitol Hill on Wednesday about that night and the rise of hate aimed at their community.

Sitting behind an imposing oak desk, facing members of the House Oversight and Reform Committee, 25-year-old Michael Anderson recalled working behind the bar at Club Q when he heard the sound of gunfire.

“I can still hear the rapid firing of bullets today,” he said. “It’s a sound I may never forget. It’s a sound I hope no one here or anywhere else in this country has to hear.”

CNN Host: MTG Has Just “Endorsed Violent Sedition” – JMG

“She was playing to the crowd. But what she is basically saying is what we’ve been pointing out: without accountability, failed insurrections are just practice.

“She’s saying they would have succeeded, and they would have come armed. And that’s a statement with real weight if you’re a member of Congress.

“That’s an endorsement of violent sedition. Make no mistake about it.” – CNN host John Avlon, on MTG’s declaration that if she had planned the Capitol attack, “we would have won.”

The big take-away from this is that John Avlon will soon be looking for a job… this new CNN_v2.0 won’t tolerate objective criticism of Republicans irritating its 55+ demographic.

It dont matter… we wont do anything. Too political to hold the leader of the house GOP responsible for her calls to violence and to overthrow our republic. So they just keep on overthrowing, slowly and surely. Maybe they can get one of them thar special prosecutors to look into this as well

That is exactly what she has done. I thought this was illegal. So, why isn’t she being held accountable? Is the DoJ yet AGAIN afraid to act? Do we have to add this to Jack Smith’s plate, too?!

Bar targeted with drive-by shooting after conservatives rage about drag & queer bingo events

https://www.lgbtqnation.com/2022/12/bar-targeted-drive-shooting-conservatives-rage-drag-queer-bingo-events/

This is gang rule.   This is what the right wing / republicans are driving.     Outrage against one segment of the population.    We have seen this before, and it doesn’t end well.   If they succeed in making the LGBTQI+ disappear who will be the next scapegoats?   Who will be the next targets?    The right wing groups that stoked this outrage and attack that could have caused death removed their inciting posts as soon as they got their way.   Just like Fox news acts, drive outrage and then claim they did not do anything.    Think of the preparations the shooter did, removing the license plate also wearing a mask and gloves.  I wonder if the car was “borrowed”?   Otherwise why wear gloves in your own car?  And where are the police in all this, they set up cameras, for a masked person?  Why not have increased patrols, why not have a news conference saying these acts of terrorism won’t be tolerated?  Why don’t the police protect the attacked communities?   Hugs

Bar targeted with drive-by shooting after conservatives rage about drag & queer bingo events

A Seattle-area pub was hit by gunfire yesterday, days before a scheduled drag queen story hour and bingo night.

The Brewmaster’s Taproom in Renton, Washington, just south of Seattle, was hit a single gunshot to their front window in a drive-by shooting around noon on Wednesday. The pub’s monthly Drag Queen Storytime and Rainbow Bingo events will go on as planned on Saturday.

Brewmaster’s owner Marley Rall told LGBTQ Nation she was working at home when she got a text from an employee at the coffee stand next door to the pub. “They just texted me and said, ‘Hey, I just watched this.’”

Rall said the assailant had removed the license plates from the car and was wearing a mask and gloves.

Rall posted to Facebook: “So just an update for everyone. Our taproom was shot at today around noon. We believe it has to do with the people who are upset about our Drag Queen Story Time. We would like you to know we are still going to have drag queen storytime. But we also want to be transparent with parents. Renton PD is aware and has set up cameras.”

“Hatred isn’t pretty,” one commenter posted. “Hang in there. A lot of us will be there to support you! Grateful for your inclusion of all people.” Rall, who lives with her husband in Renton, calls herself a staunch ally of the LGBTQ+ community.

The shooting comes after plans for a protest at the event by right-wing anti-LGBTQ+ groups came to light. “We are aware of the chatter and threats,” Rall wrote in a Facebook post Tuesday. “Every month we get emails and phone calls about our Drag Queen Story Time. Never have we had issues, but this time feels different.”

The single gunshot came from a silver four-door sedan hours later.

Rall said she noticed unusual activity on the tap room’s Facebook page Monday night. “I get a notification,” Rall said, and a woman “had posted on our newsletter, ‘This is fucking disgusting,’ and ‘You’re fucking groomers and you’re pedophiles,’ and then had scrolled through our Facebook page to go find another post from the month before, specifically for our drag queen storytime and bingo.”

Rall was also made aware of a protest flyer originating with right-wing group Wake Up WA State that had spread across social media and was shared by advocacy group LGBTQIA+ Renton and a local councilwoman. Calls for protest also made their way to Reddit, where one poster suggested shooting up a transformer to deprive Brewmasters of power during the event.

“So I screenshot it and send it to the city,” Rall says. “This is a thing and somebody clearly wants to replicate what was going on in North Carolina.” She was referring to a

Following the shooting Wednesday, Wake Up WA State scrubbed their Facebook account of any reference to the event.

“Wake Up WA State is shutting its pages down at least for now,” wrote group organizer Justine Andrina. “We talked about it a lot and made this decision because the people running the groups are putting themselves at risk at this point and the benefit is outweighing the risks [sic].”

A deleted post archived by a Brewmaster supporter illustrated Wake Up WA State’s role in the protest and purported cancellation.

Andrina shared: “Per the organizer holding the protest: ‘Based on some recent developments we’ve decided to pull the plug on Saturday. Someone took a shot at the bar today.’ I don’t know if it was a false flag or a patriot who got too hotheaded. Either way, it now seems like a major security issue and since children will be present, we made the decision to cancel. If you are able to make a note of that on Wake Up WA FB, it would be appreciated. Thanks.”

“Whoever did this to Brewmasters,” Andrina wrote, “you’re sick in the head.”

Rall says both her parents lost family in the Holocaust, and they made sure she could recite the poem First They Came.

“Just because it doesn’t personally impact you, one day, you’re going to turn around and nobody’s going to be there, because it will,” she said. “This is about keeping everybody safe, and making sure that everybody continues to feel comfortable coming out and being their authentic self.”

As more in North Carolina regain power, investigators probe domestic terrorism and threats against power infrastructure across the US

https://www.cnn.com/2022/12/08/us/power-outage-moore-county-investigation-thursday/index.html

A growing number of reported threats to power infrastructure are under investigation following attacks on substations in the South and on the West Coast as electricity becomes a more critical need in winter.

Even before the gun assaults Saturday in Moore County, North Carolina, wiped out power for days to thousands, at least five electricity substations in Oregon and Washington had been attacked in November, according to energy companies.

And now, the FBI is involved after reports of shots fired Wednesday near a power station in Ridgeway, South Carolina, a Duke Energy spokesperson told CNN. No outages or known property damage was reported at the Wateree Hydro Station, spokesperson Jeff Brooks said.

While no motive or suspect behind the North Carolina attacks has been identified, investigators are zeroing in on two possible threads centered on extremist behavior: writings by extremists on online forums encouraging attacks on critical infrastructure and a series of recent disruptions of LGBTQ+ events across the nation by domestic extremists, law enforcement sources told CNN.

Though investigators have no evidence connecting the Moore County outage to a drag event that began there around when the lights went out, the timing and context of armed confrontations around similar LBGTQ+ events across the country are being considered, the sources told CNN. The outage ended the Moore County drag show after audience members lit the stage with phone flashlights, Sandhills PRIDE has said.

The FBI had warned of reports of threats to electricity infrastructure by people espousing racially or ethnically motivated extremist ideology “to create civil disorder and inspire further violence,” the agency said in a November 22 bulletin sent to private industry.

Beyond this month’s incidents in South Carolina and North Carolina, where lights flickered back on Wednesday:

• In Oregon, a substation in Clackamas was damaged in a “deliberate physical attack” over the Thanksgiving holiday, a Bonneville Power Administration spokesperson told CNN. “BPA operators discovered a cut perimeter fence and damaged equipment inside,” the spokesperson said, adding the company is working with the FBI on the incident.

• In Washington state, “two incidents occur(ed) in late November at two different substations,” Puget Sound Energy spokesperson told CNN. “Both incidents are currently under investigation by the FBI,” it said, adding, “We are aware of recent threats on power systems across the country and take these very seriously.”

And two Cowlitz County Public Utility District substations were vandalized in mid-November in the Woodland area, agency spokesperson Alice Dietz told The Seattle Times. “At this time, we do not have any further comment … Our facilities have since been repaired,” Dietz told the Times. CNN has reached out to the FBI’s office in Seattle for comment.

Workers with Randolph Electric Membership Corporation work Tuesday to repair the Eastwood Substation in West End, North Carolina.

Where the North Carolina investigation stands

Anti-government groups in the past two years began using online forums to urge followers to attack critical infrastructure, including the power grid. They have posted documents and even instructions outlining vulnerabilities and suggesting the use of high-powered rifles.

One 14-page guide obtained by CNN cited as an example the 2013 sniper attack on a high voltage substation at the edge of Silicon Valley that destroyed 17 transformers and cost Pacific Gas and Electric $15 million in repairs.

The caliber of the bullets in that California incident is different from those used in North Carolina, a law enforcement source told CNN.

But whoever attacked the North Carolina substations “knew exactly what they were doing,” Moore County Sheriff Ronnie Fields has said.

Investigators recovered around the damaged substations nearly two dozen shell casings from a high-powered rifle, law enforcement sources told CNN. While no rifle has been recovered, the ballistics may still offer critical evidence. And bullets pulled from a transformer station and brass shell casings found a short distance away are being examined, the sources said.

Duke Energy workers repair an electrical substation Tuesday in Mineral Springs near Pinehurst, North Carolina.

The casings can be entered into a Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives database and matched to any other shell casings fired by the same gun at another crime scene, or to the gun itself if it’s found. The locations of the casings may also offer clues.

The sheriff on Wednesday asked the public to provide any surveillance footage from the areas that were hit and announced $75,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible.

Someone who lives near the West End substation heard around 20 gunshots in quick succession the night of the attack on the station, he told CNN affiliate WRAL. The power did not go out for about 30 minutes after that, he said.

“Me and my wife were just sitting on the couch just watching a movie and all of the sudden, about 8:45, about 20 shots fired off right across the street,” Spencer Matthews told WRAL.

The outages crippled the local economy and paralyzed daily life for more than 45,000 homes and businesses. And just because the electricity is back on doesn’t mean the pain is over.

Businesses “have lost a tremendous amount over the last few days,” Moore County Manager Wayne Vest said. The outages affected more than 600 food establishments, Moore County Health Director Matt Garner said

“We know our residents are going to end the day and go through the night in power and light and in safety. But there’s another element of our population is still suffering … and that’s our local merchants,” Pinehurst Mayor John Strickland said.

“If you’re dining out, if you’re only going to go out once, go out twice,” Vest said. “If you were going to shop and buy one package, buy two packages.”

Police refused to protect drag show from threats then high-fived Proud Boys who showed up to protest

When the police break the law, is there really any law?   These drag queen story hours are legal and safe, parents bring their kids because they want them to hear the stories read by the drag queens.   Yet the police stand by and let them be shut down by thugs threatening violence.  What next, will the police stand by while these thugs shut down Muslim worship services?  How about Jewish Bar Mitzvahs or Jewish schools?  At what point does enforcing white Christian views on the population become too much?   Hugs

The Columbus, Ohio police chief defended an officer seen high-fiving a member of the violent white supremacist group Proud Boys during a protest of a drag show. The show was canceled over security concerns after organizers alleged local police refused to provide security for the event.

While the event was canceled, over 50 right-wing protesters dressed head to toe in combat gear and carrying massive weapons showed up, making the neighborhood look like a warzone.

After video of the cop getting chummy with a white supremacist surfaced on social media, Chief of Police Elaine Bryant told reporters that the whole thing was simply a misunderstanding.

“A video has been shown online that shows one of our dialogue team member high-fiving a member of the Proud Boys,” she said in a statement. “We understand how this looks and how this could make community members feel. However, this was not done to show solidarity, but an attempt to defuse a tense situation.”

She went on to brag that there were no arrests, violence, or use of force at the protest. Of course, since the event was canceled due to the threats of violence, it’s not surprising that there wasn’t violence. And with police officers high-fiving members of the paramilitary group, the lack of arrests or use of force isn’t exactly shocking. Many Proud Boys members are either former or current law enforcement officers.

The “Holi-Drag Storytime” event was supposed to take place this past weekend at the K-5 Red Oak Community School within the First Unitarian Church of Columbus, NBC News reported.

Speaking through tears on an empty stage amongst holiday decorations, including a rainbow Christmas tree, the school manager, Cheryl Ryan explained how the decision not to host the story hour came about.

“I’m here on this empty stage because in the end there was a disagreement about how this community should be best protected. There is a long documented history of law enforcement doing harm to the LGBTQ community among others that continues to this day… As even a cursory Google search will illustrate, it is no secret that extreme right-wing groups including the Proud Boys enjoy a cozy relationship with law enforcement.”

“When the Proud Boys stated they would show up to intimidate and harass and bully our attendees and organizers, we had to make a decision about how we were going to keep everyone safe.”

She said after a week of communication with the police department, she was told they could hire a special duty officer “who may or may not show up because they’re understaffed.”

Ryan said that police had assured journalists they were monitoring the situation, but in reality,  “The police had offered nothing and were not in touch with us.”

“Yet I received hundreds of emails, calls, and messages from folks in the community asking, ‘How can I help? What can I do? I’m ready to show up.’”

“I never heard this message from the city’s leadership and those whose job it is to protect us.”

“It turns out our biggest problem wasn’t the Proud Boys after all. I implore this community’s leaders to consider how this could have gone differently,” Ryan said.

Gay CA State Senator Gets “Groomer” Bomb Threat

The republicans know their base is violent fanatics.  Yet they and right wing media keep driving a nonsense misinformation to rile up the base to whip them into rage so they will act out violently.   It is the goal.   They have gone back to the 1950s to 1970s rhetoric of all gays are predators and that gays must molest to recruit new gays even though that is not how it works and never was.  At the same time today on this same site was reports of two church leaders who sexually abused children.  Where are these right wing protect the children thugs over this.   Every day two or three reports of child sexual abuse from religious leaders and none from drag shows or drag queens reading stories.   Yet no protests, no violent marches, no gun carrying thugs chanting and screaming leave the kids alone through bullhorns.   See that is because this has nothing to do with actually protect kids, it is about hating a vulnerable segment of society and trying to remove them from public society.    Hugs

Just in via press release:

Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) released the following statement after receiving a bomb threat targeting his home and office:

“Early this morning, I was informed by the San Francisco Standard and the police that someone had issued a bomb threat against me, listing my specific home address and also threatening to shoot up my Capitol office. The email said ‘we will fucking kill you’ and called me a pedophile and groomer.

“This latest wave of death threats against me relates to my work to end discrimination against LGBTQ people in the criminal justice system and my work to ensure the safety of transgender children and their families. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and MAGA activist Charlie Kirk recently tweeted homophobic lies about me, falsely accusing me of supporting pedophiles and child ‘mutilation.’

“The extreme homophobic and transphobic rhetoric that has escalated on social media and right wing media outlets has real world impacts. It leads to harassment, stalking, threats, and violence against our community. People are dying as a result. Responsible political leaders on the right must call it out and stop tolerating it.

“I will always fight for the LGBTQ community — and for the community as a whole — and will never let these threats stop that work.”

The SF Standard reports:

A death threat was made against State Sen. Scott Wiener, D-San Francisco, on Tuesday morning. The Standard received the threat via email and reported it to the police and Wiener. San Francisco police responded to Wiener’s home at roughly 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning.

Sent by a person using the name Zamina Tataro, the email said that they placed bombs at Wiener’s San Francisco home and threatened to shoot up his Sacramento office “in 20 minutes, I am willing to die.”

The subject line read “Scott Wiener will die today,” and the author called him a pedophile and accused him of grooming children. SFPD searched Wiener’s home but did not locate any explosive devices.

According to the linked outlet, a person using the same name has made other LGBTQ-related bomb threats.

When are the lawsuits going to start? Its outrageous that Congresspersons can slander, seemingly without consequence.

Agree. Search warrant, toss her office, take all electronic devices. Keep doing it Garland until they decide it isn’t fun to incite violence

We need consequences. Take their phones, these are real crimes needing investigation

Why isn’t Kirk a source of evidence? Get a warrant. Show them the f ing consequences.

Yes she’d shriek martyr but she already shrieks enough.

Given what happened to Paul Pelosi, Wiener is absolutely right to publicize this
threat and install precautions…. The people who stir this shit up belong behind bars.

Wisconsin school board member sues over new sex-ed curriculum

https://www.lgbtqnation.com/2022/12/wisconsin-school-board-member-sues-new-sex-ed-curriculum/

Dogs that love gravy this is mob rule.   These thugs are proud they shouted down parents in favor of the program.   These thugs scared a ten year old little girl and made her cry.   This is their idea of civil discourse?  This is not democracy.    Young people need comprehensive sex education, and this is education also helps protect them by teaching them the boundaries of who and where others can touch them.  In some of these classes they teach kids how to report and get help if they are being abused.   These thugs claim anything they don’t like is grooming which is a mockery of the word.   They are cheapening child abuse by claiming everyone not in their group is an abuser.   It makes the words and accusations meaningless.   I don’t even understand what these groups want other than spectacle and public schools shut down.   They claim these subjects need to be taught at home, really?  Tell me that people who think the best moral understanding was from what people understood 2,500 years ago and who think any kinds of sex that doesn’t produce a baby is capable of teaching any kind of informative sex ed to kids?  This is so frustrating that this kind of violence and stupidity is celebrated by the right and allowed to continue.    Hugs

Wisconsin school board member sues over new sex-ed curriculum

The latest round in a Wisconsin school board fight has one board member suing his fellow members to stop implementation of a controversial sex-ed curriculum while anti-LGBTQ+ organizations Moms for Liberty and Gays Against Groomers stoke the controversy.

The suit was filed by board member Michael Meier, who claims the adoption of the new Human Growth and Development curriculum for the Wauwatosa School District in Milwaukee County should be invalidated based on technicalities that include Meier being excluded from conversations among his fellow members.

“A member was excluded from the meeting process in the weekend preceding the August 22 Human Growth and Development action, and therefore that approval of the August 22 is ordered voided and rescinded as unlawful,” the lawsuit read.

Meier was the lone dissenting vote when the new standards were adopted by a vote of 6-1.

The anti-LGBTQ+ groups Moms for Liberty and Gays Against Groomers have made the tiny school district a focus of their national efforts protesting against the “sexualization and indoctrination of children.” Gays Against Groomers founder Jaimee Michell, who is based in Milwaukee, described the Wisconsin curriculum as “child abuse” and “grooming.”

At a board meeting on October 24, the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reported police were called after activists from both organizations plunged the gathering into chaos by shouting accusations at board members and parents, labeling them “groomers” and “child abusers” who wanted to show kids sexually explicit pictures.

“Please remember our name, Gays Against Groomers, as you will be hearing a lot more of us, and we are just getting started,” Michell warned. A 10-year old in attendance broke into tears.

Failed school board candidate and Moms for Liberty member Scarlett Johnson tweeted thanks to opponents of the measure before the meeting. “Thank you for helping us protect kids from woke gender ideology and hyper sexualization. Comprehensive Sexuality Education is evil … we can no longer mince words,” she wrote.

Support among residents of the Wauwatosa School District for the new curriculum was measured at over 70% in strong agreement, agreement, or neutral.

“I am most upset, frustrated and sad,” Wauwatosa parent Amy White said, “that extremist groups, or even people external to the Wauwatosa School District are targeting our school board.” Some parents called for the exclusion of outside groups from school board meetings.

At that same meeting, Sunny Iwanski, the first Wauwatosa resident to speak,  said she supported Human Growth and Development curriculum. She was immediately interrupted by protesters. She told them the constant disruption meant the needs of the district’s kids were being ignored.

“I think it’s important to acknowledge that we have listened to the voice of the people of Wauwatosa and that we are serving the children of Wauwatosa … I’m frustrated, and I’m ready for us to move forward as a district,” she told the meeting.

Gays Against Groomers was started by Michell, an out lesbian and professional viral media creator, and a group of gay “contributors” earlier this year. The anti-LGBTQ+ collection of gays, lesbians and detrans individuals has stalked school board meetings, anti-LGBTQ+ rallies and the airwaves since, all while being banned from multiple platforms, including Venmo, for hate speech. The group claims they are “a 100% independent, self-funded nonprofit organization.”

Talk show host and Georgia House candidate accused of illegal voting

https://www.ajc.com/politics/brian-k-pritchard-accused-of-illegal-voting-amid-run-for-georgia-house/GJX7SSIHLVHLJNSIWHUKVWLHQI/

Republicans are sure there is massive voter fraud and the reason appears to be they are the ones doing it.    Hugs

Conservative talk show host Brian K. Pritchard, a candidate for the Georgia House, is accused of voting illegally nine times while serving a felony sentence.

Brian K. Pritchard allegedly voted nine times while on felony probation

Conservative North Georgia talk show host Brian K. Pritchard, a candidate for the state House who rails against election fraud, allegedly voted illegally nine times while serving a felony sentence in a $33,000 forgery and theft case, state officials say.

The Georgia attorney general’s office wrote Thursday that Pritchard broke state law each time he voted before his sentence was completed, according to a filing with the Office of State Administrative Hearings. State law prohibits felons from voting.

Pritchard, the head of FetchYourNews.com, qualified Monday to run in a special election for the state House seat previously held by Speaker David Ralston, who died last month. He will face Ralston’s widow, Sheree Ralston. Both candidates are Republicans from the Blue Ridge area in northeast Georgia.

“I’ve not done anything wrong here,” Pritchard said Monday, asserting that his sentence ended long ago and his rights had been restored. “I guess if you’re apprehending public enemy No. 1, here I am.”

Ralston, the executive director of the Fannin County Development Authority, said she is running to continue her husband’s work, especially to expand mental health care and addiction treatment programs.

“Sheree Ralston brings dignity and integrity to this campaign and would serve her constituents with the utmost honesty and respect,” campaign spokeswoman Jen Talaber Ryan said.

Pritchard pleaded guilty in 1996 to three felonies, including two counts of forgery and one count of theft by failure to make a required disposition of funds, according to court records from Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.

His sentence included probation and restitution payments of over $33,000. Court documents available online don’t provide details of the underlying crimes.

After Pritchard registered to vote in Georgia in 2008, he voted in nine elections before his felony probation sentence ended in 2011, according to the attorney general’s office.

Pritchard has said on his show that the 2020 presidential election was “stolen,” though recountscourt cases and investigations have repeatedly debunked those claims. He has criticized Republican Gov. Brian Kemp and Republican Attorney General Chris Carr for being “complicit” in Democrat Joe Biden’s victory in Georgia.

“I do not believe that 81 million people voted for this guy,” Pritchard said on his show in April. “This is what they did to us, America.”

Pritchard’s attorney told the State Election Board last year that he was unaware he was considered a felon when he registered and voted in Georgia. The board referred the case to the attorney general’s office for further proceedings.

“The system is not set up for people to do whatever they want and us to catch them. It’s for people to abide by the law,” State Election Board member Matt Mashburn said during the February 2021 meeting.

The attorney general’s office has requested a hearing before an administrative judge in Fannin County, where Pritchard lives, during the week of Jan. 9, after the special election for House District 7 on Jan. 3.

Pritchard could face maximum fines of up to $5,000 for each violation.

Unless Pritchard were convicted of a felony for voting while serving his sentence, he wouldn’t be disqualified from office. Local prosecutors haven’t sought criminal charges against Pritchard.

If he were a Black woman, he’d be sentenced to five years in jail, at least.

Crystal Mason got 5 years in jail for doing it accidentally. Why shouldn’t this asshole get a LOT more?

Hint:

There’s only one white answer.

It Was Never Just 42 Harveyrabbit 🐱 • 7 hours ago • edited

Because he’s white. And Republican.

In RW circles he’s probably due a pardon and a purple heart…

Myrikin Harveyrabbit 🐱 • 7 hours ago

Uh, cause he’s white, straight, and a Republican. Obviously.

Octoberfurst Myrikin • 6 hours ago

He will probably get a serious finger wagging from the judge and given a small fine. That’s the way our crazy world works today.

Every accusation is a confession. Every single goddamn time

Inbred Goober serves time for felony, commits more felonies then runs for office. This could be a recurring reality show on TLC. Candice what’s her name could be the love interest of all of them. Praise Jesus!

Now I understand why the GOP is so fixated on election tampering because they are doing it in plain sight.

Tor biki • 8 hours ago

And they assume “everybody” does it. So why not?

Will he be charged with anything? No mention of charges anywhere. He ought to be sentenced to 9 x 5 years in jail for this, right?

Boreal Deacon Phreque • 8 hours ago

No, but if he was a liberal, RW media would be screaming for his arrest.

People like Tucker Carlson are personally responsible for this.

And nothing will be done about him, Chaya Raichik, Chris Rufo or Matt Walsh.

I still have trouble coming to terms with the fact that this “recruitment/grooming” horseshit is still with us. It’s 2022, not 1977. A vocal minority of Americans insist on remaining stupid and ignorant (to the detriment of everyone).
