Scottie’s world today

Here is what google saysyes I do smile when

For those wondering what this is about last night I had finally had it.  After weeks of patience mine was gone with the rabid right wingers.  Two in particular, who simply ignore any evidence, lie, misinform, misdirect, and When backed into a corner move the goal post.   Everything they disagree with is fake news and what ever they want to believe is fact.  They are pushing conspiracies about everything and there is no nuance or shades of grey with them.  They feel that all Democrats are one block out to destroy the country, rape the kids, and do all the evil.   Republicans in their view are both the strongest people in the world and being cancelled while being pushed around by the tyrannical left.  They make no sense and when I point that out that they have conflicted themself I am an evil liar out to destroy the US.  Putin is right yet Biden is a weak doddering fool for not stopping him.  Yes that was in the same paragraph.   I told them both off, not that it did any good and now I am simply refusing to engage with them.   While I am busy it seems all they do is spend time in the right wing comic sections picking fight non-stop.  So denying them engagement is the best thing to hurt them.

Russia invades Ukraine and we get this.   Takes a special kind of ass to post this “toon” today as scores of lives are lost to Putin’s evil.  He is so much worse than Putin. What’s next making restaurant workers wash their hands? How can we let this happen, we should attack Canada now to protect those poor truckers.

A few truckers, many antivax, QAnon conspiracy mongers and some funding from a foreign country (USA) were blocking major infrastructure / economy and major cities. The vast majority of Canadians did NOT support the idiots. The idiots brought 18 wheelers and were having a party. THis was NOT lawful protests. They were warned, warned again and then they were removed.

Oh…by the way, where are your Russian v Ukranian strips? Tell us the truth about a real situation of WAR!!!!

Lisa Benson Comic Strip for February 26, 2022

I can’t tell you the current sanctions regime will succeed, the the Trumpservative insistence that economic sanctions can’t work is ridiculous. The 1970s Arab oil embargo was nothing more of less than a regime of economic sanctions against the U.S. For its support of Israel in the 1973 war. It crippled the U.S. economy for nearly a decade and forced permanent policy changes.

DD Wiz Premium Member about 11 hours ago

Uneducated ignoramus Lisa Benson’s minimizing extremely severe sanctions as a “ding in a credit score” smacks of the same ignorant aid to our enemies as Trump praising his puppet master Putin’s war crimes as “savvy genius” for just “walking in” and taking over a “whole country” for the price of a “two dollar sanction.”

How ignorant does someone have to be not to understand the unprecedented step of massive sanctions on an unprecedented scale, going far beyond what any president has dared to impose in the past, and coordinated with virtually all European nations as well as many others, including international assets frozen (how will Mar-a-Lago make payroll?) for Russia as a nation, all the top OILigarchs as well as Putin himself (an unprecedented move), cutting off access to the international banking system, and further restrictions to trade and technology as well as direct sanctions on Putin, Foreign Minister Lavrov and the top OILigarchs?

Trump basically reduces war crimes to a real estate deal and both he and Lisa completely misrepresent these severe, unprecedented sanctions that will impose real pain.

The real question is, why are these people peddling such perverse misinformation for the purpose of supporting our enemies over our own government and our allies?

This was a cartoon on the misleading right wing media today.   Gas prices were low because the demand for gas was very low with the world closed down and the factories not running. Now the world is opened up again. That is much better for the world to be up and running. The economy was slowing down and showing signs or regression in early 2019 as the fuel from the 2017 tax give away to the wealthy was burned through. Rather than invest that money in the country or more capacity the corporations spent it on stock buy backs and raising dividends. The US is as energy independent as it ever has been. That situation has not changed just the price of fuel has risen. Do you think US oil doesn’t rise when the rest of the worlds oil cost is rising? The US is still a net exporter. The borders are secure. Nothing has changed at the southern border. Those coming across it illegally are apprehended and deported. Those seeking asylum are being housed illegally in Mexico, and those seeking asylum with families are vetted given, court dates, and monitored in the country. tRump praised Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, and called Putin a genius for doing it. China is still in check , nothing has changed.

GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene Speaks At White Nationalist Conference

The congresswoman from Georgia spoke at the America First Political Action Conference, organized by white nationalist “groyper” leader Nick Fuentes.

SCREENSHOT FROM COZY TV LIVESTREAM

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) spoke at a white nationalist conference in Florida on Friday evening.

Greene, a QAnon conspiracist and rabidly anti-trans Republican, was the surprise speaker at the third annual America First Political Action Conference in Orlando, organized by white nationalist figurehead Nick Fuentes.

Fuentes, an antisemite and racist who attended the deadly 2017 white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, and who was recently subpoenaed for his involvement in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, excitedly introduced Greene as the featured speaker from behind a lectern inside the Marriott Orlando World Center, according to a livestream of the event. (HuffPost was denied entrance to AFPAC.)

In her speech, Greene referred to the assembled AFPAC crowd — among them prominent right-wing extremists who have been photographed giving the Nazi salute and reciting the infamous “14 words,” a white supremacist slogan — as “canceled Americans.”

“You’ve been handed the responsibility to fight for our Constitution and stand for our freedoms, and stop the Democrats who are the communist party of the United States of America,” Greene said.

She also took time to attack transgender people, claiming Democrats have destroyed “gender” and “pronouns.”

Her speech was immediately followed by a series of virulently racist and homophobic diatribes from prominent extremists.

“They want to replace you,” said Vincent James Foxx, a former propagandist for the white supremacist street-fighting club Rise Above Movement. “Western white culture is the majority culture, to which even non-whites assimilate into today — and they’re better off for it.”

Then far-right podcaster Stew Peters called for the execution of Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, whom he falsely blamed for causing the coronavirus pandemic.

“Tony Fauci literally unleashed a bio weapon on the world. Why is this man running around free instead of hanging on the end of a noose somewhere?”

The crowd roared.

Greene’s presence at AFPAC underscores the thin line separating the Republican Party from the white nationalist extremist movement in America. Greene, after all, was not the only public official who spoke at AFPAC on Friday night.

Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.), who spoke at last year’s AFPAC, made an appearance via a pre-recorded video, as did Arizona state Sen. Wendy Rogers and Idaho Lt. Gov. Janice McGeachin, both Republicans.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) poses for a picture with a Donald Trump supporter at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Orlando, Florida, on Friday. Greene later spoke at AFPAC.

Greene is also scheduled to speak Saturday morning from the main stage of the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), the pre-eminent annual gathering of the conservative movement in America, a few hours before former President Donald Trump is set to speak from the same stage.

HuffPost also spotted Greene at CPAC on Friday — only a few miles from the site of AFPAC — where she was treated like a celebrity, posing for photos and conducting interviews with right-wing media outlets.

Last year, Greene was stripped of her committee assignments for promoting violence against Democrats.

The pipeline wouldn’t have helped the US oil situation at all.  If it was running they projected 75% of the oil was going to overseas markets, and 25% was to be charged as an import.   Meaning that when oil prices went up so would the oil in the pipeline and we still have to pay more.   For some reason the right acts like it is free oil given to us that Biden cancelled, it never was that.

Ted Rall Comic Strip for February 25, 2022

“US Senator Elizabeth Warren put the pieces together when Fed chair Jerome Powell appeared last month before the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee. Offering a lesson in what she referred to as “Econ 101,” the senator from Massachusetts led Powell through a series of questions related to inflation.

“If you’re a corporation that has eaten up most of the competition and cornered the market, is it easier for you to raise prices on your customers and maximize your profits because you don’t have to worry about losing your business?” asked Warren.

Powell replied, “In principle, if you don’t have competition and you’re a monopolist, yes, you can raise your prices.”

“Okay,” Warren continued. “Over the past year, we know that prices have risen because of supply chain problems, unexpected shifts in the demand for goods, and even higher labor costs. But if corporations were simply passing along these costs in highly competitive markets, would the companies’ profits margins have changed much?”

After mumbling something about varying factors that impact such calculations, Powell concluded, “But, in principle, you could be right.”

With that answer in hand, the point was made:

Senator Warren: Well, it’s very much not what we’re seeing right now. Today, nearly two out of three of the biggest publicly traded corporations in the country are reporting fatter profit margins than they reported before the pandemic which doesn’t sound like they’re just passing along costs. So let me ask you: Does that increase in profit margins, combined with greater market concentration in industry after industry, suggest to you that some corporations may be passing along increased costs and, at the same time, charging more on top of that to fatten their profit margins?

Warren made the vital connection that all Democrats should be making as debates about the causes of inflation heat up. Instead of letting Wall Street apologists create the impression that inflation is simply the result of supply chain kinks and pent-up consumer demand after two years of pandemic lockdowns, and instead of letting Republicans suggest that federal and state investments in health care and housing are the problem, Democrats should be speaking like Warren. And like former Ohio state senator Nina Turner, a congressional candidate who declared Thursday:
It’s not “inflation,” it’s price-gouging.Exxon and other Big Oil corporations are price-gouging us at the gas pump.Grocery chains are making record profits price-gouging us at the register.Corporations are bleeding working people dry. Enough.

I was able to get a sense of his soul; a man deeply committed to his country and the best interests of his country.”

Misleading right wing media cartoons / memes

The right wing wants to blunt the push to lower college costs and to cancel student loan debts.   Look we tell people to get ahead they need an education.   Then we make getting that education very hard to get for most people, well out of their price range.  Then we allow predatory lending practices especially for the fly by night schools that don’t even graduate students or have jobs programs to charge huge fees and interest.   It is all to make sure only the wealthy can get ahead.  That only the wealthy can send their kids to higher educations, while poor families face the fact that their kids will have labor or menial jobs.  The idea is the lower incomes children will work for and serve the higher income’s children.   The other thing this does is promote profit for the lenders instead of that money going to help the economy and giving the people with these loans the chance to live decent lives instead of being financially destroyed by high interest loans.

This is the right wing misinformation media cartoonist Rivers.   Need I even address it?  While members of the right dress up as Nazis and carry their flag / symbols he accuses the left of doing so.  While the right wing defends Putin invading a free and sovereign nation he accuses the left of being Nazis.   The whole thing is a projection and an attempt to deflect from the actions from the right, tRump, and Putin.

Now he makes the same claim against Canada’s leader.

Again this is Rivers a far right delusional cartoonist.  Here he makes the claim that Canada is an authoritarian nation worse than the Nazis.   Well he does like Nazis.

I do not put much stock in this narrative any more.  As the population in rural areas shrink it would seem those able would leave, and it maybe that the remaining older people might be stronger Republicans.    But the population centers and the over all population in the US remains Democratic.  I think this is an attempt to discourage Democrats in the rural areas to keep them from voting and to make the right wing feel stronger than they are.

The right wing media so badly misconstrued the Durham filing that he has to make a new filing explaining that he did not assert the things Fox and other far right media was saying he had claimed.  The need by / on the right for something to support tRump’s wild claims and show that he never should have been investigated for the crimes and corruption he committed is so great they have resorted to making things up.   But when the rest of the media doesn’t report their fantasys and made up stories they claim the media is bias and wont show things that cast tRump in a good light.

The Durham filing never claimed Hillary or her people spied on tRump.  This is another creation of Fox media hosts.   The techs looking into the servers at the White House were hired by the White House during the Obama presidency.  But you can not gin up outrage by talking about techs hired to look at the traffic on a server by President Obama so they made up a story that would rile up the base.

The right wing has such a warped view of science, biology, and pregnancy they think an abortion is the murder of a human.   I have been arguing with a right winger that claims the second of egg and sperm meeting the result is a human baby.   Not the potential for one, but is one right then.   That then leads to any sex is an attempt to make a baby.

Yes the price of fuel is rising fast.  There is a war happening.   Stocks are tumbling.   Rivers is a right wing media cartoonist who appears to support Putin in this conflict.   It is going to get worse.   But the US and the world has no choice, we can not let Putin get away with invading a sovereign democratic nation.  It will not only embolden him but every wannbe dictator on the planet.

comic image

The sanctions that the US and the other countries being implemented will hurt Russia and the oligarchs badly. I doubt that it will cause Russia to withdraw from Ukraine but as Biden said these are sanctions that will hurt more over time. The longer Putin stays in Ukraine the weaker Russia will get and the weaker Putin’s hold on power will get. I think Putin misjudged the will of the rest of the advanced nations.

Those “sacred cows” didn’t commit treason by attempting to overthrow the government.   And those “sacred cows” are fighting for civil equality and justice, not fighting to overturn a fair election under false pretenses.  It’s sad when someone tries to compare Trump traitors to people who want the right not to be murdered by the police.

twclix Premium Member about 5 hours ago
@mlester101Mike, you really screwed this one up. The January 6 insurrection was a traitorous effort to support a lying psychopathic malignant narcissist in his effort to overthrow a clean election.

The BLM riots were violent, but much of the violence was instigated by right wing agitators and fools like Kyle Rittenhouse. And why the violence? Not because of a lying psychotic politician. But because of persistent embedded police violence towards Black citizens. Had the January 6 insurrectionists been Black, they all would have been killed before they got inside the Capitol.

Your defense of them shows you are in league with men like Putin and trump. That speaks to deficiencies that make me seriously question your character and your integrity.

The attempt to form an equivalence between an attempt to overthrow a valid federal election with the race riots inspired by right wing agitators and their BLM counterparts is simply wrong. There is no equivalence.

The BLM folks don’t want to be shot and killed by police anymore. They’ve had enough. It doesn’t excuse what a few rioters did, but it is completely understandable, and a civil matter.

On the other hand your insurrectionists were supporting baseless, pernicious lies that you and your ilk have been spreading. They are an open, obvious threat to the United States of America.

I find it hard to believe you cannot discern the difference between race riots and treason.

Why do you hate American aspirational morality, and spout such lying, destructive garbage?

Clearly you’ve been propagandized and brainwashed, but that’s no excuse. If the US survives you and your type, historians will look back at you with open disdain for having supported the destruction of our democracy by a lying psychopath and his fawning media support.

(Oh, and Mike, you are clearly a prime example of the fawning media that supports lies and treason.)

Liberal Redneck – Texas Targets Trans Kids

Greg Abbott is the worst and is now going after Texas trans kids and their families.

Black Transgender Woman FINALLY Gets Justice For Sham Arrest

An Atlanta police officer was ordered to pay $1.5 million to a Black transgender woman who was falsely imprisoned for trafficking cocaine back in 2015. Ju’Zema Goldring claimed she was racially profiled and targeted based on her race and sexual orientation and was able to prove that in court since the officer found no trace of cocaine anywhere in her purse even after spending almost six months in prison.
“A federal jury ordered an Atlanta police officer to pay $1.5 million to Ju’Zema Goldring, who said she was profiled and falsely arrested for identifying as a Black, transgender woman. Goldring’s attorneys say she was walking with friends in October 2015 when two Atlanta Police Department officers stopped her for jaywalking, which Goldring denies she committed. Officers found a “stress ball” in her purse and tested it for cocaine. Goldring’s attorneys said officers charged Goldring with trafficking cocaine despite receiving a negative test result. Goldring spent nearly six months in jail. She was released when the Georgia Bureau of Investigation independently conducted a test, which attorneys said failed to detect cocaine. Attorneys also conducted tests in front of a jury at the trial.”

Texas governor compares healthcare for trans kids to ‘child abuse’ in chilling attack

In a letter sent Tuesday (22 February), Abbott reminded the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services that it is “responsible for protecting children from abuse” so must shield trans youth from treatment.

The Republican demanded the agency “to conduct prompt and thorough investigations of any reported instances of Texas children being subjected to abusive gender-transitioning procedures”.

Doctors and nurses, he said in the directive, could face jail time for failing to report such care and said parents and guardians should also incur criminal penalties for pursuing treatment on behalf of their trans children.

Abbott’s intervention signalled Texas‘ clearance intent yet to erase trans youth, with treatments such as puberty blockers, that researchers say is “life-saving,” being dubbed “monstrous” by the attorney general Ken Paxton.

On Monday, Paxton issued a 13-page legal opinion under the category “child abuse” providing public officials with a justification to hammer down on trans healthcare.

While an attorney general’s opinion does not carry the force of law and is just advisory, state officials are expected to take them into account in their decision-making.

“Sex-change operations and puberty blockers prescribed by kids is ‘child abuse’ under Texas law,” Paxton tweeted.

“These procedures are monstrous and tragic,” he tweeted before quoting his statement: “I’ll do everything I can to protect against those who take advantage of and harm young Texans.”

Paxton said that “it remains medically impossible to truly change the sex of an individual because this is determined biologically at conception”, a claim that Abbott said he agrees with.

Paxton issued his opinion, which is a written interpretation of current law, after Republican Fort Worth representative Matt Krause asked him to weigh in on the issue.

Neither Paxton’s opinion nor the governor’s directive has any legal effect, but both amount to domineering efforts to tear down the rights of trans people in Texas.

“The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) has now confirmed in the enclosed opinion that a number of so-called ‘sex change’ procedures constitute child abuse under existing Texas law,” Abbott wrote in his letter.

“Because the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) is responsible for protecting children from abuse, I hereby direct your agency to conduct a prompt and thorough investigation of any reported instances of these abusive procedures in the State of Texas.

“As OAG Opinion No. KP-0401 makes clear, it is already against the law to subject Texas children to a wide variety of elective procedures for gender transitioning, including reassignment surgeries that can cause sterilisation, mastectomies, removals of otherwise healthy body parts, and administration of puberty-blocking drugs or supraphysiologic doses of testosterone or estrogen.”

A spokesperson for DFPS said in a statement to local news outlet KCAN that the agency “will follow Texas law as explained in attorney general opinion KP-0401”.

“At this time, there are no pending investigations of child abuse involving the procedures described in that opinion,” the spokesperson added. “If any such allegations are reported to us, they will be investigated under existing policies of Child Protective Investigations.”

Activists decry anti-trans Texas governor and attorney general: ‘This is an absolute nightmare’

Across the US, dozens of bills have appeared in statehouse dockets all with similar aims: To deeply restrict the lives of trans Americans, from the sports they play to the healthcare they can access.

As much as overwhelming evidence shows that providing gender-affirming healthcare to trans youth is more beneficial than hurtful, Republican legislators have increasingly sought to ban treatments altogether.

Withholding gender-affirming healthcare from trans youth can lead to higher rates of anxiety, depression and suicide, studies have found.

This culture clash more or less came out of nowhere, with a wave of more than 100 anti-trans laws being proposed in early 2021, according to legislative tracker Freedom for All Americans. And this trend has continued to rip into 2022, with dozens already introduced.

While similar proposals were pitched by Republicans in the past, efforts in 2021 and 2022 to chip away at trans rights are now often more organised and slick, with bill names that claim to be promoting “fairness” in single-sex sports or “protecting” children.

But as activists stress, this noble-sounding language is a front to single out trans folk and feed into transphobia. After all, the American Medical AssociationAmerican Psychiatric Association and American Academy of Pediatrics all support providing care for children experiencing gender dysphoria and have publicly opposed the push to restrict such healthcare options.

“This is an absolute nightmare,” tweeted Chase Strangio, a staff attorney for the American Civil Liberties Union.

“What [Paxton and Abbott] are doing is terrifying,” they added. “They are scaring kids, their families and their doctors into believing they will be investigating if they affirm their trans children and patients.

“This will cause severe stress and anxiety, could limit medical care, will discourage parents from loving and supporting their kids and could lead to illegal investigations into families.”

I want to make clear because the article doesn’t that sex surgeries re not happening on minors for gender dysphoria.     Sex surgeries have happened on minors if there is an accident or a problem with the genitals.   No minor is having breast removed or penises changed.  Also puberty blockers are not new and they are not dangerous.   They have been proscribed for a lot of different medical issues.   Plus they are completely reversible by simply not taking them.   That is all that happens, a person goes through puberty later.   No what they are important for is so a trans kid doesn’t develop the features of an adult of the wrong gender.  No male wants female parts, no female wants to look like a guy.  It is incredibly hard to change these features once they are set.   Imagine being a young person watching your body changing daily into something horribly wrong for you.  But for a political party that keeps touting parents’ rights in schools and in book banning’s from libraries, now they want to remove parents’ rights when it comes to medical decisions for the child.

Just got home

I just got home from taking Ron to his eye test.   He is not going to need a new prescription and all his stuff seems well.   I did not fare so well.   Yesterday I sat in the chair and the doctor had me read what I could.  Then he covered my left eye and I read what I could.   Then he covered my right eye and I asked what happened to the room, did he hide the eye chart.   My left eye was horrible.   I had not noticed the degradation.   He said I was about 20 / 80.    My cataracts are a 2 and a 1 out of 4   I have no blood vessel issues, no diabetic retinopathy, and no signs of nerve damage.  But for some reason my left pupil is sluggish and there is no reason for it to be.    So when I go get my new glasses the doctor wants to check the eye again.   I like that office, but they are quite a distance from us.  As I had to get new lenses, I got new lighter frames.  My current frames are heavy.   I got titanium flex frames, progressive lenses, and a gradient tint. same things I have on my current glasses.  I like large lenses.   I had small ones for years and got to hate the gap above and below the lenses.    So this last pair I got big, and at First Ron did not like them, but now he does and he is getting bigger lenses himself.   He doesn’t need a new prescription, but his lenses are chipped so they need to be replaced.  My glasses were $645 and $119 of that was the frame.  I looked at a similar frame that was the same color and style but cost $225 dollars and I couldn’t see why they were worth so much more.  Anyway maybe when I get them I won’t need such large fonts anymore.   😀😂😃😎😎
