After Cristโs dig about Disney, the audience laughed. He was referring toย DeSantisโs war on the companyย after it spoke out against Floridaโs Donโt Say Gay bill that prohibits K-3 teachers from talking about sexual orientation and gender identity in the classroom.
DeSantis not only continuously criticized the company in public, but he also oversaw the Florida legislatureโsย revocation of Disneyโs decades-old special zoning agreementย to punish them for speaking out for LGBTQ people by issuing a statement opposing the Donโt Say Gay law.
And last summer he battled with the cruise industry, banning them from requiring proof of vaccination from passengers.ย A federal court sided with a cruise lineย against DeSantis, saying that the stateโs ban on vaccine passports violated the cruise lineโs rights.
In July,ย he ordered his administrationย not to invest funds in โwokeโ corporations, prohibiting pension fund managers from using environmental, social, and governance (ESG) ratings when deciding which companies to invest government funds into.
Cristโs dig at DeSantis accuses him of doing the exact opposite of what the Republican party โ the alleged pro-business party โ claims to support.
During the debate, DeSantis also would not commit to serving another full four-year term as governor, presumably because he is planning a 2024 presidential run.
DeSantis avoided Cristโs questions about 2024 and declared, โI know that Charlie is interested in talking about 2024 and Joe Biden, but I just want to make things very, very clear: The only worn-out old donkey Iโm looking to put out to pasture is Charlie Crist.โ
Crist served one term as Floridaโs Republican governor from 2007 to 2011. In 2010, he ran for Senate as an independent, and in 2012, he registered as a Democrat. In addition to being governor of Florida, he has been a state senator, attorney general, and the stateโs education commissioner (all as a Republican). Until a few months ago, he was serving in Congress but resigned to focus on the gubernatorial race.
In the debate, he also took aim at DeSantisโs anti-trans and anti-abortion views.
DeSantis signed a 15-week abortion ban that has no exceptions for rape and incest, and he has repeatedly spoken out against trans youth. During the debate,ย he calledย gender-affirming care the practice of โmutilatingโ children.
โYou think you know better than any physician or any doctor or any woman,โ Cristย said. โYou need to lead by uniting people, not dividing them.โ

The sheriff in metropolitan Phoenix said Monday heโs stepped up security around ballot drop boxes after a series of incidents involving people keeping watch on the boxes and taking video of voters after they were apparently inspired by lies about the 2020 election.
On Friday, deputies responded when two masked people carrying guns and wearing bulletproof vests showed up at a drop box in Mesa, a Phoenix suburb. People watching the boxes and voters showing up to vote have covered their license plates, according to photos shared on social media.
The secretary of state said her office has received six cases of potential voter intimidation to the state attorney general and the U.S. Department of Justice, as well as a threatening email sent to the state elections director.

A drag-queen story hour starring an 11-year-old performer at an Oregon pub was targeted by Proud Boys and neo-Nazis, some of whom hurled heavy rocks and smoke bombs during fiery clashes outside the event.
Police in riot gear ultimately had to intervene to stop the mayhem at Old Nickโs Pub Drag Queen Story Time Brunch on Sunday.
The Eugene Police Department said in a statement that it was well aware ahead of time that the event had โdrawn polarized attentionโ across the state.

Witnesses stated that at one point the detractors had attempted to enter the pub through a side door but were pushed back by supporters. These anti drag queen detractors were made aware of this event by Andy Ngo, a right wing journalist who considers himself an expert on Antifa and the โmilitant leftโ.
Ngo tweeted about the event on Oct. 17, calling attention to Vanellope personally by posting pictures of her. The supporters of Old Nickโs were local community members who brought snacks and water for the allies and protected families as they entered the pub.
Some of the protestors were identified as Proud Boys and members of Rose City Nationalists were present. David Loveall, Springfieldโs new county commissioner was there protesting the drag show along with members of the Crossfire Christian Church.

Threats from neo-Nazi groups prompted the cancellation of a drag queen story hour in Orlando. The LGBT+ Center Orlando announced it would nix the event, scheduled for Oct. 29, out of caution. โDue to several threats from hate groups aimed at The Center and to those participating in Drag Queen Story Hour, we have decided to cancel the event for this Saturdayโs Halloween Edition scheduled for 2PM,โ reads a Facebook post from the Center.
The event, which had been supported with a grant from the City of Orlando, was to feature Bridgette Galore. Rep. Carlos Guillermo Smith, an Orlando Democrat and one of three openly gay lawmakers in the Florida Legislature, said itโs a shame hate can shut down a community event. โIโm sad and angry that threats like these continue to happen against the LGBTQ community,โ he said. โNeo-Nazis organizing in Florida against Drag Queen Story Time? This is really dangerous and scary.โ

Seventy-five children and their parents bought tickets to the โDrag Queen Story Hourโ event with Bridgette Galore Oct. 29 at the Center off Mills Avenue, said George Wallace, the centerโs executive director. โIt was sold out,โ Wallace said. โBut again, safety is first in mind. We donโt want to put anyone in harmโs way, especially kids. They donโt need to be subjected to yelling and seeing that type of behavior.โ
Wallace said local public officials and the Anti-Defamation League alerted him to online posts where extremist groups planned for 40 to 50 protesters at the event. โWe have a church group that protests the center and the local Proud Boys came and were yelling โpedophileโ and terrible things at the parents that were bringing their kids in,โ he said. โThey were at armโs length, but this Twitter thread that we saw โ theyโre violent.โ

I have mentioned on my other blog about after having been raped violently with no chance to get lube because my sibling from hell of my adoptive parents wanted me to feel as much pain as possible because I was not a real member of his family.ย ย He then did something that to this day hurts more than the rape, after he was done and got what he wanted he rolled over in my tiny bed and fell asleep.ย He slept in my own bed! (Later he claimed the excuse he had been drinking and I should just forget it) Something broke in me.ย I did something I never did before.ย Looking back, I am not sure what I felt, but I got up out of the bed and went through the mobile home to the adoptive parent’s room and took the 30 30 gun off the rack and opened the drawer in the bedroom I knew the bullets were in and left.ย Unlike the other hell spawn, I never had gotten to use or learn the guns, but I understood enough from watching the others.ย ย I never woke anyone.ย ย I loaded the gun on the way back to my room.ย ย I went back to my room and put that gun to that male sibling’s head and went to pull the trigger, his goading words ringing in my head as the pain from what he did rang though my body making every step a fresh prodding of the wound.ย ย ย To this day even as an atheist / nonbeliever in the supernatural I will swear under oath what happened next is true.ย ย I am not saying it is supernatural, but I am saying this is my memory of the event.
As I put the gun barrel to his head and prepared to take my revenge on that drunken asshole who had just gloated as he hurt raped me, I heard a voice.ย I think all the things the voice said I don’t remember clearly these days.ย ย But the voice started with a strong “No, Don’t! Stop”! Then continued with “This is not who you are, not what you will be”!ย ย “Don’t let them make you what they are, be the person you can be”!ย There were more words in my head and to tell the truth at my age they are tending to blur out.ย ย But the voice was pleading with me to not pull the trigger and to not be what these hateful bastards wanted to make me.ย
ย I made a decision that night that I have never regretted.ย I put the gun back after emptying the bullets, put everything back and vowed I would never be like the vindictive hurtful people who adopted me.ย ย I would take everything they forced on me and I would still become the kind of person I wanted to be, the kind of person I respected.ย ย I tell this story because we really don’t know what the full story is of Ethan Crumbley and why he felt such a need to take others’ lives.ย ย Was he also being hurt raped?ย Was he being kept hungry while others ate?ย Looking at my own life I could have been him, as if I had pulled that trigger that night why would I have stopped at just the one in my bed, why wouldn’t I have gone after all of them.ย ย Do you see why I have sympathy for this kid?ย We don’t know what was going on in his life.ย ย We do know what his parents did, they lied, ran and tried to escape justice by hiding.ย ย

Ethan Crumbley, who 11 months ago penned in his journal โI will cause the biggest school shooting in Michiganโs history. I have fully mentally lost it,โ pleaded guilty Monday to first-degree murder and terrorism charges for the bloodshed he vowed to carry out at Oxford High School four days after his parents bought him a gun.
In a packed courtroom filled with the victimsโ grieving families, Crumbley, 16, took responsibility for the murders of his classmates, Tate Myre, 16, Madisyn Baldwin, 17, Hana St. Juliana, 14, and Justin Shilling, 17, and the injuries he caused to seven others who were struck by his bullets.
In entering his guilty plea, Ethan dropped a bombshell that may hurt his parents in their separate criminal case, telling the judge that the gun he used in the shooting was easily accessible. โIt was not locked,โ Ethan said in court, contradicting his parentsโ claims that the gun was properly stored in a secure area.
