Reasons to Leave Christianity* in 2025

I have long liked this young YouTuber.  I started following him when he was more into debunking stuff while also producing atheist content.  I felt he understood what a lot of people were going through in that he was trying hard to hide being an atheist from his parents and family which gave him an idea what many in the LGBTQ+ community were going through with their families.  He himself noted that similarity.  One of the things I like about him is his calm quiet fact filled delivery.  If others have not noticed I don’t like aggressive angry yelling videos, they are too close to what I grew up with and suffered in my childhood.  Drew is not a fervent anti-Christian like so many atheists are.  Instead he simply is against the bad stuff some people do in the name of religion  / Christianity.   I like that.  At the end of this video he again says if you are getting something good from your faith, don’t leave it, just change it to make it better.  I agree.  He explains how Christianity was abused by corporations and wealthy people to get people to do things against their own interest they otherwise wouldn’t do.  In the name of god work more at a lower cost to make money for your employer type stuff.    Hugs

  1. From my viewpoint and beliefs I have to ask should these people be termed ‘Christians’?
I do not recognise the teachings of Jesus Christ in their actions.
The term Zealots would be a better and not qualified as Christian Zealots, for the reason above. Just ‘these Zealots’

    1. Hi Roger. As someone who asks and preaches that others should call people by the name along with the pronouns they wish to be called it is hard for me to say someone is not who they claim to be. Also I feel that as I am not a Christian it is not for me to say who is a Christian or not.

Now you can say who is following the rules / commands / words of Jesus because you are a loving professed Christian. You say they are not Christian then I would agree with you. I from what I experienced from loving Christians and what I know of what the Christ preached I would say they are not Christians. I was taught that the word Christian meant follower of Christ. I wouldn’t say that the hateful people Drew is talking about are Christians because in my view they are not following the words I learned Christ said. But then … Who am I to judge, and they will say I have no say because I admit I am not Christian, I admit I do not follow Christ even as I try to honor / do as he taught. Maybe if they did as I do and tried to follow the things Christ taught rather than seeking the riches of the world for mocking his teachings no one would question if they were “followers of the Christ”.

On a separate note. What would a person who followed the compassionate teachings of Jesus who is called the Christ, yet did not believe in the supernatural or other things claimed in the book that holds those words of Jesus? I wish I could find an answer to that question. Because I do believe in the kindness and acceptance Jesus taught. I do believe in the helping those that need help and that as you do unto others it has been done to me. I do believe in the golden rule of treating others as I hope they will treat me. Yet I claim no title, no membership, no right to sit on either side of any deity, I only try to do the best I can to be the best Scottie today as it is possible and hope to be a better Scottie tomorrow. Hugs

      1. It is difficult to accept any group that dares to produce posters with Jesus carrying a gun or wearing a MAGA cap since these acts themselves are solely provocative and no respect to Jesus’ teachings.
Of course they are not the first to try and tell the world that Jesus approves of their actions. Although as any who preach hate and intolerance they always seems short of the exact words used by Jesus to qualify their beliefs.

However when you hold to the beliefs of Compassion, Respect and Tolerance, then Scottie you are doing more to build a better world. This is the most important role. This is Faith for Good, and it does not matter from where that inspiration comes. The important thing is to take the stand on those three roles, Compassion, Respect and Tolerance.
Doing those Scottie makes you a far better person than anyone who claims devotion to a God and then conducts Hate and Intolerance in that God’s name. Doing that is all dust and ashes, and nothing worthwhile grows there.
Keep on keeping on the way you are.
Best wishes and take care you and Ron.
