  1. Well, you don’t go in and “get” this airtime. It is offered by the show, and, ultimately, the network. CBS seems to have Sen. Sanders as their token. At least the host of this show is highly respectful, as opposed to some other places.

    1. Ali, you’re right that no one simply walks in and gets airtime — it’s ultimately offered by the show and the network. But from where I’m sitting — about 14,000 km away — it also seems that Sanders ends up on these platforms because he’s willing to speak plainly and argue his position with some skill. That kind of clarity creates its own momentum.

From this distance, what stands out is the way he challenges not only particular policies but the premises those policies rest on. That sort of direct, idea‑focused engagement tends to be rare in public debate, where it’s often easier to question the person rather than the argument. When someone leans into the harder work of addressing the ideas themselves, it naturally draws attention — and perhaps that’s part of why he’s invited back.

      1. All of that is true. What’s also true is that he’s not often on what are known as mainstream outlets. So everyone doesn’t see what he does, either.
It’s been this way, likely longer, but at least since Pat Buchanan worked for Richard Nixon, and he did a real number on US media by calling them “liberal media.”

        1. Hi Ali. You wrote to Barry: What’s also true is that he’s not often on what are known as mainstream outlets. What could be more main stream than The Late Show with Stephen Colbert? Or the many other places I have posted. Bernie and AOC have shown they are willing to go on any media platform. So what more can they do. I have seen him on podcasts such as Brian Taylor Cohen and on the Pod Save the Americas. I really don’t understand what you are saying, democrats in congress could be on any show they want to go on. tRump went on Joe Rogan before the 2024 election, while Kamala Harris wouldn’t do podcasts because the old time strategist kept telling her she needed only main stream TV media. Why because they get a kickback from that but not from podcasts. We see who reached the voters needed to win. Hugs

      2. Hi Barry. You are incorrect about the situation here. I watch the Sunday News shows and they are always saying they reached out to democratic leadership and got no response. In the 24-hour news cycle any show will willing to put on a democratic lawmaker if they will come on. I also know that podcasts which I watch constantly would love to have a politician on. I have keep saying that democratic leadership under Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries whole goal is to make no waves and just ride out that people are sick of tRump. That way the corporate democratic leadership don’t piss off the big money donors. Best wishes

    2. Hi Ali. I disagree entirely. I often hear one of the Sunday news show hosts say they reached out to the democrats for comment and got no response. Every one of these shows would love to have a democrat especially one in leadership come on and be interviewed. Podcasts are the same. The pod save American guys are also saying they want more democrats on. Allison with her podcast and daily news program called the daily beans is also one that often has democrats on but most of them are at the state level, but she is always pushing democratic candidates. I can tell you that Bernie has no problem being on the most popular network show or the smallest podcast, and that is the difference. As I have explained to you before, my secondary monitor plays podcasts and news shows constantly. I am not depending on the evening news for information. Hugs
