      1. I sashayed onto Facebook and chanced upon a US very strongly opiniated atheist (I won’t repeat the title of the post- harsh language).
Curiosity getting the better of me I checked out the content, stock in trade being accusations about and mockery of Christianity.
        So there’s me thinking
‘Pretty shallow guys. Any moderate with a good working knowledge of the bible and theology could tell you where you are going wrong in your interpretations. But y’know? With what’s being spouted out by the pro-Trump fundamentalists I’m not surprised at this reaction…not at all,’

        1. Hi Roger. Thank you for saying the above. I recently had to explain to someone I don’t mock religious people who are sincere in their belief who use their religion to help themselves and others. I do point out and attack hate preachers and those that misuse their holy texts / religion to bash others who are different or have a belief.

I value good people with a personal code they live by that helps them live good lives being helpful members of the community / society. I am not religious but I do have a code of life that helps me in how I treat the world or others. The way I judge a code of life is if it helps you help others or is it used by you to harm others. My life was saved by a seriously religious family. Had I stayed in the home I was in I fear I would have been beaten to death in a fit of rage. Or taken my own life to find relief.

I ofter post from several religious leaders who I strongly believe offer life lessons that are good for everyone religious or not. If I was to believe in Christianity I would be a follower of Jesus not the holy text called the bible.

But I think calling out hate preachers and those that ruin the message of the NT in ways that harm others turning people away from the joy to be found in the words printed in red in my copy of the bible. Those using hate and fear threatening violence claiming it is what their god wants turns the majority away from their religion. That might make them feel good and get them money / followers but it won’t bring more people into the Christian flock as a community.

OK I have given my sermon. I welcome those of any religion to Scotties Playtime that wish well for others and harm to none. That includes people of faith. Hugs

          1. Here’s an account from some years ago.
In a random way I chanced up a US Christian radio station. It was one of the ‘middle of the road’ sorts which look to the teaching of Jesus from the gospels. Low key and friendly.
Anyway they were interviewing a scientist who was an atheist and a regular guest. These words stick in my mind.
‘I get letters from your listeners, who say they are praying for me; which is kind nice….’
Now that is beautiful. An audience which cares for the soul of one non-believer and doesn’t go sending them to Hell, and an atheist who is warmed by that message (Some get really offended if they are told someone is praying for them).
That was from another time, when we had hope that all would ‘sort itself out’.

Now all has become politicised and lines are drawn. The HateMongers and the Blinkered have the narrative, the vulnerable get overlooked and the moderates are pilloried by both sides.

Sometimes on FaceBook when trying to cross the lines and talk to the opposite side this song goes through my head

            Take care guys

            1. Hi Roger. Thank you for the video. I often feel that someone is talking to me in a language I don’t speak. Sadly maga is talking its own language and have convinced themselves that the reverse of reality is happening. While tRump is using the Justice department to attack his enemies right wing media is full of how Biden weaponized the Justice department. It is the radical left they claim that is doing all the shooting or as the Heritage foundation claims it is trans radical Antifa people doing the majority of the mass shootings. How did they get that figure when only possible 3 or 4 maybe trans people are verified as shooters. They claimed only 8 people did mass shootings over the last 4 years and of those 8, 4 were trans. So if you take the 4 not trans and make a couple of those suspicious or protrans then you have 75% of the shooters are trans Antifa radicals. That is what the right wing media is pushing which is totally false. Hugs.

    1. Hi Judy. This is so over the top isn’t it. They need something / someone to rally around to show that tRump’s lies about the left are true and that makes their side feel great about themselves. They totally whitewashed Kirk. He was a hate preacher who wanted the country to be 1850, yes 1850, when white Christian men ruled, women had no rights, blacks were slaves or close to it in the north, and no mention of the LGBTQ+ community in public society. He was a misogynist racist white supremacist Christian nationalist who wants a country ruled by a strong man with only one party in power (his party) and everyone forced to act the way they are told by people like Kirk being made to live by his churches doctrines regardless of what those other people believe. And people getting fired from their media jobs for telling the truth about who Kirk was and the hate he spewed constantly. Hugs

  1. Rulers…
Yeah let’s talk about Rulers, shall we??

    Matthew 7:15
“Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.”

Or maybe we can take another look at Paul Yes…Romans…. 16:18
“For such people are not serving our Lord Christ, but their own appetites. By smooth talk and flattery they deceive the minds of naïve people”

Yeah let’s talk about those…shall we?
    Uh????
OK I’m leaving now before I start using unbiblical language.

    Take care you guys

    Roger 😤

    1. Hi Roger. OK I’m leaving now before I start using unbiblical language. Roger such language in defense of those needing defending and giving voice / protection to those who have no voice and need protection are always welcome here! Do not spare the horses if it will save the children. Sometimes the words people most need to hear in a bad situation are the words not spoke. Hugs

      1. There’s part of me Scottie which wants to let rip in no uncertain terms. However from experience I tend to get ‘off script’ and make mistakes.
Right now I am working on a post, based on the wilful ignorance and selective corrupting of the true message of Jesus.
It’s tricky for me, and my temper….I’ll get there.

        Take care

        1. Hi Roger. I wouldn’t ever want you to do something harmful to yourself. I do care far too much for you and your family. That said I bet a lot of what you don’t say is stuff far too many self satisfied ego drive money grubbing Christians driven by the need to look down on and judge others desperately need to hear. From what you wrote about I think a bunch of atheist need to hear it also. I would warn atheist to be cautious about the evidence for a deity. Often people deny something exists until science progresses far enough to prove it does. Ron, my spouse and I do not believe in a vengeful Christian god of the OT. But he is sure there are forces of positive / good energy and forces of negative / bad energy. There is no way to prove him wrong and a lot of circumstantial evidence he may be correct. It sure feels that way to me. I am saying I don’t like hate preaching atheists anymore than I like hate preaching theists. I just really don’t like hate and what hate does to people or lets them do to others. Hugs

          1. Thank you Scottie for your concern.
I write a polemic from time to time as a way of getting anger out…..Jill and I both rely on the power of a ‘rant’.

Speaking as a Christian I’m not so sure about ‘Vengeful’ God. but I do believe that a lot of folk who have used a mask of Christianity to spread hate and greed are going to be pleading a lot when they come to be ‘judged’ in the afterlife. And if they had not changed their ways and repented in Life….. Well fellahs and gals you should have the Gospels in more detail.

            Take care Scottie and Ron.
            Best wishes
            Roger & Sheila
