Why I do these posts. This is three days of Joe My God that got away way from me. So why do I do these long news posts? Because I comb the Joe My God comment section for the best memes and snarkiest comments. It dawned on me I could post his news articles for those that want to read them. But three days is a lot to go throw and it is much easier just to quickly scan and snatch the comments rather than post them. So I need some inputs from everyone. Are these posts worth it? Hi Bruce. What I noticed reading the article is that the company selling the tRump phone is also selling a refurbished iPhone 15 for $629 but a new iPhone 16 from Apple is only $699. Everything with tRump is a scam or rip off. Do you like these Joe My God round up posts? Or is it easier for you to go to Joes site yourself? Hugs

Hi Scottie. I seldom visit Joe My God because he mostly writes about US domestic issues and personalities I am unfamiliar with. Occasionally I’ll see a headline that has a more universal interest, and I will follow up on those. So maybe I’m not one you should be asking.

BTW: I’m guessing you are embedding the Joe My God posts within your blog post. I see a grey rectangle which when I hover the mouse over it reveals “www.joemygod.com refused to connect.” So those don’t work anyway. However I can click on the text link which will take me to the http://www.joemygod.com website where I’m greeted with a Cloudflare “Verify you are human” challenge every time. These Cloudflare challenges are becoming so irritatingly frequent that I usually don’t bother to respond anymore. I’ll look elsewhere instead. Not your fault Scottie, but I no longer have sympathy for challenges – especially those by Cloudflare, which in my view are way over the top. There are alternative means of ensuring a ‘safe’ connection.

Hi Barry. That is so weird. I know Joe has to have high security and pays a company to provide it for his site as he is constantly attacked with the goal of taking his site down by different groups.
This is the second time your location has not let links / pictures I post show. I wonder why? I am not sure what to do about it. I stopped using the political cartoon site that wouldn’t display for you. I don’t get the Cloudflare thing when I go to his site but I have heard others complain about it. Thanks for letting me know. At least the links are there. I wonder if it is everyone overseas or just some countries? Well you are far more IT savvy than me so if anyone can understand it that would be you. I really don’t know how to place the links on WordPress any differently than embed them. I just past the link and it shows the blurb for the story. Best wishes.

It’s a case of geo-blocking. I don’t usually use a VPN but I thought I would try one to see if it made a difference. It does, but only if I use a US based VPN server. With the VPN on, I can view the embedded links inside your post and the text links disappear. Interestingly, with the VPN enabled some other site are blocked, whereas they not when the VPN is not being used – I presume on the assumption that if you are hiding behind a VPN you’re activity is suspicious.
As an I.T. engineer up until July 1999 I once knew about as much as anyone on the ins and outs out the internet, but in those days it was more about resilience of networks – malicious attacks were few and far between and easily thwarted. How the world and the internet have changed in the two and a half decades since.

Hi Barry. Thank you for checking it out. You are light years ahead of what I was taught to do. I do wish I had been offered the choice of something like data manager or what ever companies used to monitor their networks, but those were state sponcered courses and I seen what the 50 plus year olds in my own class they had to take first were like. They were clueless and only their to get their unemployment check. I was the only person who paid the entire $3,000.00 out of pocket. But the sad thing was our instructor was a 24 year old and I had to explain some things to him. So I got nothing except a small fine computer tool kit I have kept all these years.
So if I understand you correctly there is nothing I can do to change the situation if I keep doing these posts. I am sorry friend, I really wanted a way you and others in places where the magic algorithm did not block the posts. Thanks for checking and explaining. I guess as you are getting the links at least and you don’t read much of Joe My God anyway that is the best I can do? Let me know if you have an idea how I could do better to get you and those in places that the algorithm don’t want to share them with can see them. Thanks. Best wishes.

It’s a minefield these days – much of which can be put down to various attempts to mitigate malicious harm that has become endemic on the internet. There is very little any of us can do apart from treading carefully. If I use a VPN to circumvent blocking on an American site, for example, then some NZ sites become unavailable due to copyright protections. Sites such as TVNZ+, which is my streaming platform of choice stops working as does NZ MetService that provides weather forecasting. Some YouTube channels only work via a VPN, and then some only if the VPN server is located in specific countries, While other channels work only if I don’t use any VPN.
At best it’s a balancing act, and it’s up to each of us to decide what that balance should be. For myself, I avoid using a VPN because I believe one should respect the copyright of those who provide content. For the most part, I use a VPN only where I don’t think copyright is a factor in why I can’t access a site directly, and the blocking is due to security measures..
