Trans students in Oklahoma are suing the state over its transphobic “bathroom bill”

https://www.lgbtqnation.com/2022/09/trans-students-oklahoma-suing-state-transphobic-bathroom-bill/

For those that think it is a good thing to keep trans students from using the bathroom of their gender identity, please read how it makes these trans kids feel and how it singles them out for even more harassment.    As for the excuse used that this is about safety there has NEVER been a verified case of a trans person assaulting anyone in a bathroom, but there are cases where trans people have been violently attacked trying to use a bathroom.    Also cis women have been attacked and accused of being trans because they did not look womanishly enough for the haters.   For those that say they would feel funny knowing a trans person is in the same bathroom with them I would ask WTF?   Do you knock on stall doors to inquire if anyone inside them is trans?   Do you stare at people at the sinks washing their hands wondering what their genitalia is?  II have used bathrooms complete with individual shower stalls that were open to everyone no matter what sex, genitalia, or gender.  Their was no problems.   Anyway the SCOTUS has already found for one trans student on the bathroom issue, finding it was illegal to not let a trans person use the bathroom of the gender.    However there are now more religious fanatics on the court.   But these bathroom laws are solutions looking for a problem, they really are more political statements than needed laws.    Hugs

Three students in Oklahoma are suing state and school officials over the latest “bathroom bill” denying transgender kids the same rights as their fellow cisgender classmates.

Andy Bridge, a 16 year-old, and two other students (who filed the lawsuit anonymously) are being represented by Lambda Legal, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), and the ACLU of Oklahoma.

In May, the Oklahoma state senate passed Senate Bill (SB) 615 in a 38 – 7 vote. The bill was quickly signed into law by Gov. Kevin Stitt (R). The law forces all pre-kindergarten through 12th-grade public schools and public charter schools in the state to restrict transgender students’ use of school restrooms and locker rooms to those consistent with the gender they were assigned at birth.

The law mandates a reduction in funding for school districts that don’t comply and allows parents to sue school districts if they believe their child is in danger of sharing a restroom with a transgender classmate.

Supporters of the new law say it promotes “safety.”

The lawsuit, filed Tuesday, says SB 615 violates the U.S. Constitution and Title IX by discriminating based on sex, gender identity, and transgender status. The complaint alleges the plaintiffs — including Bridge, another high school student, and a middle school student — will be “irreparably harmed” by the law. The suit calls on the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma to issue a preliminary injunction to block its enforcement.

Bridge said in a statement, “I am a boy, and while living authentically hasn’t always been easy, it’s given me a sense of relief and happiness. Being able to use the boys’ restroom might seem like a small thing to others, but it is a vital step in my transition.”

According to the lawsuit, Bridge — a senior at Noble High School, just south of Oklahoma City — used the boys’ restrooms at his school last year without issue. With the new law on the books, he was told this fall by the school’s principal and vice-principal that he was now required to use a single-occupancy restroom instead.

Bridge was warned that if he violates the new policy, he’ll be subject to disciplinary action.

Of the boy’s restroom, Bridge said, “Being barred from using it leaves me singled out and excluded from the rest of my friends and classmates, but also feeling like I’m being told that I’m not worthy of the same respect and dignity as everyone else.”

“This is not the first such attack on transgender schoolchildren, and sadly it will likely not be the last,” said Bridge’s co-counsel Nicholas Guillory with Lambda Legal. “Anti-transgender state legislators nationwide keep singling out transgender students for harmful, discriminatory treatment, notwithstanding that we and our allies have successfully quashed these efforts wherever they have popped up.”

North Carolina’s passage of a law restricting restroom access in public buildings in 2016 cost the state billions of dollars in lost jobs and revenue. It was ultimately blocked in court.

“What states like Oklahoma, Alabama, Tennessee, and North Carolina have done time after time is find new ways to attack these kids for their political gains among radical voters,” said Human Rights Campaign state counsel Cathryn Oakley when the Oklahoma bill passed.

“Legislation targeting transgender youth in this way is a violation of both federal civil rights law as well as the United States Constitution,” Oakley added.

LGBTQ students in a Florida school district successfully organized earlier this year to oust two anti-LGBTQ “lunatics” from a local school board. The now-former school board members supported book banning and the state’s “Don’t Say Gay” law.

Candace Owens falsely links Memphis killings to trans people

https://www.lgbtqnation.com/2022/09/candace-owens-falsely-links-memphis-killings-trans-people/

Be afraid, be very afraid of those trans people, be afraid of those gay people, be afraid of teachers, be afraid of black people, be afraid of immigrants … Did I leave any group out?   Oh ya be afraid of the godless atheists.    Fear is what the right wing media sells.  The republicans no longer try to create or develop polices that help the people or that the people want.   So they sell fear to stay in office and keep getting elected.    They have amped up their attacks on gays and trans people so of course the more fringe right wing media hosts have to link the LGBTQ+ to any kind of violence or tragedy.   One thing the stories have missed about Kelly.   He was sentenced to three years.    He served 22 months which is the normal time.    The reason it seems he only served 11 months is that is how long from his court case where he was found guilt until his release.   But he was in jail prior to that, so he was given credit for that time also.   He was in jail for 22 months total, which again is the normal amount of time on a three year sentence.    Hugs

Candace Owens is once again attempting to falsely link a tragedy to transgender people. In her Thursday night appearance on Tucker Carlson Tonight, the far-right media personality characterized acceptance of trans people as “celebrating mental illness.”

Owens joined the Fox News host ostensibly to discuss criminal justice reform in the wake of a recent deadly shooting spree in Memphis, which left four dead. Authorities arrested teenager Ezekiel Kelly early Thursday in connection with the crimes. Last year, the 19-year-old Kelly had been sentenced to three years in prison, but was released in March after serving 11 months.

“Obviously what we are seeing around us is, under the guise of compassion, we are letting violent criminals back on the streets, and people that are following the law and abiding the law— going out for a jog — are suffering because of it,” Owens said of Kelly’s release.

She also brought up the recent kidnapping and murder of Memphis kindergarten teacher Eliza Fletcher. Police have arrested 38-year-old Cleotha Henderson in connection with the crimes.

Owens blamed the crimes on “mental illness,” a now-standard right-wing talking point when discussing mass shootings and violent crimes.

“This is, by the way, the product of what we are seeing when we celebrate— in our culture — mental illness. That is what is happening. We have somehow gotten to a point in America where we are celebrating mental illness — in many different forms, by the way,” Owens said.

She then made the leap to equating transgender identity with mental illness: “It’s not just by trying to convince us that we should feel compassion towards criminals and yet feel that the real criminals are the patriots, a total inverted of reality. But it’s also the perverse element that is encouraging mental illness, like telling men they can be women, telling women they can be men if they just mutilate their bodies.”

Earlier this year, Owens was one of many far-right figures who spread the false rumor that the gunman in the mass shooting at Robb Elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, was transgender. She has also used her platform to attack Dwayne Wade’s transgender daughter.

Large gaming event set for Florida canceled because of Don’t Say Gay law

Yes!  More companies need to do this, pull out of Florida and other hater red states.   Hit them economically and maybe we can reach them with reason.   Right now they’re drunk on power and hate, they are gang thugs, and they won’t stop until they are hammered back down under the rocks they slunk out from under.    Hugs

The organizers of a gaming convention who originally planned to hold their event in Florida have canceled, citing both Florida’s lax COVID-19 policies and its hardline anti-LGBTQ stance. The group said that the state is no longer “a safe place for our community.”

“While we would love to return in-person, we’ve determined that to provide a safe and welcoming event to all, it was best that we move away from our originally planned location in Florida,” the website for Games Done Quick (GDQ) says. “Given the state’s continued disregard for COVID-19’s dangers (including anti-mandate vaccination policies) and an increased aggression toward LGBTQ+ individuals, including the law colloquially known as ‘Don’t Say Gay,’ we do not believe it is a safe place for our community at this time.”

GDQ organizes charity events that involve speed runs, or shows of video game skill where players finish games as fast as possible, often using programming bugs creatively and employing novel strategies that game developers didn’t anticipate.

The group’s upcoming winter event — Awesome Games Done Quick — was originally planned to be held in Orlando in January 2023 and was going to be GDQ’s return to in-person events after two years of virtual-only events due to the COVID pandemic. The event will be a fundraiser for the Prevent Cancer Foundation.

Several prominent speedrunners who participate in GDQ events are transgender, and transgender people have been especially targeted by Florida Republicans. In the past several years, the state has passed a ban on transgender students participating in school sports, banned transgender people of all ages from using Medicaid insurance to cover gender-affirming careinstructed schools to ignore federal law banning anti-LGBTQ discrimination in education, and Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) even declared a cisgender woman the winner of a swimming competition because he didn’t like the fact that a transgender woman won.

The state got national notoriety for what has been dubbed the “Don’t Say Gay” law, which bans discussions of sexual orientation and gender identity in younger grades and restricts them in older grades. School districts have already interpreted the law to mean that they can’t acknowledge LGBTQ people’s existence while schools ban books that conservatives accuse of “grooming” kids for child sex abuse and advise LGBTQ teachers not to have pictures of their same-sex spouses on their desks.

The law also targeted transgender people in particular, requiring schools to out transgender students to their parents if teachers find out their identities.

GDQ used to hold their winter event in D.C. until it was moved to Orlando in early 2020. Since its inception in 2010, the events have raised $35 million for various charities, including Doctors Without Borders and the Malala Fund, a nonprofit organization for girls’ education.

The January 2023 event will be held online.

Kenneth Copeland: Put Bibles Back In Schools To Stop School Shootings

Kenneth Copeland thinks that there would be fewer school shootings in the United States if there were more bibles in schools. Jessica Burbank and Cenk Uygur discuss on The Young Turks.

“Very stable genius Kenneth Copeland, who is worth hundreds of millions of dollars, appeared on a television special last night to educate the world on why there are so many school shootings. It’s not because of easy access to deadly assault weapons; it’s because the naughty Devil used a woman to make the Supreme Court remove Bibles from schools.”

Marjorie Taylor Greene shares child’s medical photos in bizarre anti-trans rant

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) just shared pictures of one or more minors on Twitter in order to attack the family of a possibly transgender young person.

“This child is not old enough to vote, buy cigarettes, or watch an R rated movie, but they let her choose to have them cut her breast off,” Greene wrote while sharing a tweet with two pictures. One of the pictures shows a girl in her early teens fully dressed, the other shows a young person in their late teens or early 20s shirtless after what appears to be a double mastectomy.

“My Protect Children’s Innocence Act will stop this,” she wrote, referring to a bill she introduced last month.

Greene retweeted anti-trans activist Chloe Cole, who wrote, “Reality check: Nothing is okay about this.”

Marjorie Taylor Greene's tweet

Neither Greene nor Cole appear to know the name of the person or people in the photos — they don’t look like the same person, but that may be because of the time that passed between the two photographs — how old they are, or why the latter person had undergone surgery. If the person was over the age of 18 or had a mastectomy for reasons unrelated to gender-affirming care, then Greene’s bill wouldn’t have prohibited the procedure.

Gender-affirming surgery is not performed on minors — in fact, the oft-repeated claim was rated “false” by Politifact. Nevertheless, the idea that children’s hospitals are performing gender-affirming surgeries on young children has gained traction on the far-right this past month, leading to harassment and death threats against pediatricians working at children’s hospitals.

People on Twitter criticized Greene for sharing the images of a minor without permission from the family and for trying to interfere in another person’s medical decisions.

Anti-LGBTQ activist rants against children’s hospital for exposing kids to “radical gender theory”

https://www.lgbtqnation.com/2022/09/anti-lgbtq-activist-rants-childrens-hospital-exposing-kids-radical-gender-theory/

And the anti-LGBTQ+ activists strike another hospital.   Understand what they are doing, this is terrorism against a business doing lawful / legal activity.  These haters cannot get their way at the ballot box so they need to threaten doctors and hospital to scare them, to make them so afraid they won’t do the legal act of caring for trans kids.   They are egged on by republicans who think targeting and attacking a vulnerable segment of the population will secure an election win.   As for the issues of the links in the presentation, even if you think that kids from preteen through to older teens don’t know how to shop online at these legal sex shops I would tell you that kids can google sex toys better than most adults, but the important thing is the presentation was for adults not children.     Remember the goal of these activists is to remove the LGBTQ+ from society.    Hugs

Christopher Rufo, a 38-year-old anti-LGBTQ right-wing activist, is claiming that a Chicago children’s hospital has partnered with public schools to promote “radical gender theory,” kink, and sex toys to children.

As “proof” of his claim, Rufo pointed to a slideshow presentation given by representatives from the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago to administrators, teachers, and staff in middle- and high-schools located in four of the city’s public school districts.

The slideshow, entitled “Beyond Binary: Gender in Schools,” discussed how school staff can make students feel safe regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. It defined terms like cisgender and non-binary, and transphobia; discussed the historic and societal impact of gender discrimination; shared statistics on the challenges facing LGBTQ students; offered suggestions for making schools feel more welcoming to such students; and encouraged participants to discuss how to handle in-school incidents involving students coming out or those who object to LGBTQ-inclusion in schools.

It made sense that the hospital would offer such a presentation to schools since it also provides gender-affirming healthcare to trans and non-binary youth.

However, in a blog post on his personal site, Rufo wrote, “Lurie Children’s Hospital has provided materials to school leaders promoting radical gender theory, trans activism, and sexually explicit materials in at least four Chicago-area public school systems.”

He took particular offense at the last two pages of the presentation which contained links to additional resources, including support groups like GLSEN, PFLAG, and the National Center for Transgender Equality; educational websites like the Public Broadcasting System, Howard Brown health services, and the Chicago school system’s documents on gender inclusivity; as well as online articles from Teen Vogue about LGBTQ sex education and queer-inclusive books for teens.

Rufo criticized the list of resources for including links to a “’kid friendly website for gender affirming gear,’ which sells items such as artificial penis ‘packers’ and female-to-male ‘trans masc pump[s].” Another link, he added, was for an “’LGBTQ friendly sex shop for teens’ that sells a range of ‘dildos,’ ‘vibrators,’ ‘harnesses,’ ‘anal toys,’ ‘trans-friendly toys,’ and ‘kink & BDSM’ equipment.”

“The links include graphic descriptions of sadomasochism, bondage, pornography, and transgressive sex,” Rufo wrote. “Beyond the lurid nature of some of the content, these documents reveal a profoundly disturbing collusion between radical gender activists in the medical system and the public school bureaucracy.”

Lurie Childrens Hospital Be… by wonkette666

Rufo wrote that the hospital “has laundered the promotion of queer theory, synthetic sexual identities, and child sex toys under the guise of ‘health and education,’ devoting significant resources toward building what policy analyst Leor Sapir has called a school-to-clinic pipeline. The process is simple: children learn about and adopt ‘gender expansive’ identities in schools, which then direct them to gender clinics that can provide puberty blockers, hormone therapies, surgeries, and drug regimens that often add up to hundreds of thousands of dollars in costs over time.”

In short, Rufo believes that the presentation was just a way to help the hospital make money off of trans and non-binary youth.

While one could argue whether the hospital should’ve included such resource links in their presentation or whether educators should send students to such websites, the presentations were only shown to adults and there’s no proof that the links were ever shared with any children. Additionally, sex toys, packers, and pumps are normal products for humans exploring sex and the transition process.

That doesn’t matter though because Rufo’s claims seek primarily to shock people who are largely ignorant about or opposed to trans healthcare, sex education in schools, and what teens view privately online.

Rufo touts himself as an “activist challenging critical race theory and gender ideology in America’s institutions.” The New Yorker credits him with helping create the national panic over so-called “critical race theory” (CRT) being taught in schools.

But Rufo’s opposition to CRT and LGBTQ issues in schools is part of his long game in sowing distrust against the public education system in order to champion for-profit school privatization.

He has repeatedly claimed that public school teachers regularly sexually abuse children and that classroom LGBTQ discussions are meant to “groom” children for such abuse. He was present when Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) signed the infamous “Don’t Say Gay” law, The New York Times reported.

As Rufo is likely aware, fomenting anger at gender-affirming children’s hospitals inspires others to issue death and bombing threats against pediatric doctors. This might discourage them from rendering such care and also hinders their ability to care for other sick and injured children.

I just cannot do it, I am sorry

If you read my last post you know that I was going to try to move on to comments.  But things change.   I took my blood sugar and it was 97.   Ron did not want it to go any lower.   So he begged me to eat.  He asked what I wanted, and I really wanted a salad.   Surprisingly, I love what for me is a salad.  It has lettuce, white mushrooms, croutons, sometimes a few things like sprouts, but mostly I like lettuce and mushrooms.    He insisted that because of my low blood sugar I have a grilled cheese sandwich.   I normally love those as Ron makes mind with Munster.  I just couldn’t eat.   He asked me to eat a quarter of the sandwich which I did, and I had already eaten half the salad.    I couldn’t do anymore and was almost in tears trying.   He took everything and he said it was OK and enough.   I only took 4 units of insulin so that should equal that out.   I should have only taken 2 units but Ron thought I would eat more than I did.

I won’t be getting to the comments, sorry if you are waiting for my reply, I am going to bed, that welcoming sweet darkness where most of the time my mind wanders free and I have a wonderful time, even sometimes like last night having full command of my body and able to run as I did in my youth with no pain and great strength.   But sometimes at least three or four times a week the nightmares come.   Anyway, good night I cannot do this anymore today.  Hugs and loves.   I hope you all are well.   Night

Dennis Prager: “Many Slaveholders Were Nice People”

Prager is a paid by the right wing normally by the Mercer family to the tune of 36 million dollars to push on YouTube the conservative whatever Republican party wants push is.   Sometimes it is very painful to see the positions they push to forward to advance the republican points.    The bad part is the republicans are funding this.  Yet there is no left democratic alternative paid for by left wing billionaires.    The right wing has been doing this for decades.   The Mercers are White power white Christian supremacy’s who have founded and pay for many right-wing media outlets.   Including Steve Bannon.   The left seriously need to up their game on this.   The point is these people want to change the world to have only their accepted ones in charge of everything and the left wants everyone to have a say in how everything is run.   But our side either doesn’t have the money or won’t spend it on these issues.    Hugs

Dennis Prager: “Many Slaveholders Were Nice People”

“One of the confusing things about life is how many nice people help destroy societies. This is not meant at all facetiously. It is meant literally.

“We think that people who do bad things, either think they’re doing bad and so they’re truly evil or they will be obviously bad in interpersonal relations, but it doesn’t work that way.

“Nice people can support vicious things. The human being is a macro and a micro being among the many, many differences within each of us. There were undoubtedly many nice slaveholders in the South. This is not meant facetiously again, it’s meant literally.

“If you had been invited to one of their homes, you would have been treated beautifully, but they supported a vicious system. The left is a vicious system. It’s not slavery.

“Although the end result of all leftism is the enslavement of populations, not as in transatlantic slave trade or chattel slavery, but in the diminution of human rights and liberties, which is a form of enslavement.” – Dennis Prager.

PREVIOUSLY ON JMG: Prager declares he’d tell grieving parents that that they’re “wrong” to oppose gun control. Prager claims Trump “has never made any bigoted remarks.” Prager says most gay people “cannot think as a person.” Prager claims that if the US were to split, “the Christian side would prosper.” Prager declares the Capitol riot to be a “Reichstag fire.” Prager defends anti-vaxxers by claiming that gay men were not “pariahs” during the 80s height of the AIDS epidemic. Prager declares that doctors “know nothing” about COVID and that everybody should stock up on horse paste. Prager declares that President Obama has “zero masculinity.” Prager rages that if the left really cared about black people, they’d tell them to “elevate their moral standards.” Prager laments that nobody says “Negro” anymore and that he can’t use the N-word.

They are mutually exclusive.
Always.

‘Slaveholder’ is a term which vastly understates the vicious brutality of human enslavement.

The practice of enslaving someone always included torture and dehumanization. There was quite literally a profession known as “slave breakers”—men who would travel the slave states offering services to ensure that children or newly enslaved adults were physically and psychologically broken.

When Dennis here talks about visitors being treated kindly and generously by slave owners, he’s referring only to white people. But y’all already knew that.

Houndentenor • an hour ago

No, they weren’t nice. They enslaved other human beings. That’s not nice. Many of them (like Thomas Jefferson) were well aware that it was immoral but kept doing it because it was so financially advantageous. (Too many obvious parallels to our own times to bother with specific examples here.) No, they weren’t nice.

Now were some better to the people they were enslaving? Obviously. But if there were that many “nice” slave owners why did so many risk death and torture to escape? I’ve had some shitty jobs but none so bad I’d have risk death or flogging to escape! Not even close to that. Were some so beat down from a lifetime of abuse that they didn’t try to escape? Sure. That’s a whole field of psychology. but there lives were still horror shows.

Many thanks to the scholars who are researching and writing about this topic. I’ve been reading a lot of their work over the past five years or so and I have learned so much, all of it horrifying. The fact that we have white people trying to minimize 250 years of horrors (longer on other continents) is infuriating. (I can only imagine how much that angers the descendants of enslaved people. I’m white and I’m livid.) There’s no reason to excuse slavery. It should never have happened and it’s disrespectful to the people abused in that system to pretend that it wasn’t that bad.

TX Judge: Insurance Coverage For HIV PrEP Pill Violates Religious Rights And “Enables Homosexual Behavior”

These religious nationalist won’t be happy until the LGBTQ+ are driven from society.   First we must be returned to a state of no rights or protection, then made illegal all over the land.   This kind of hate is weird.   People need to defend the rights of the LGBTQ+ or next it will be you they come for.    These people think the Handmaids Tale is a guidebook.    Hugs

The Advocate reports:

A federal judge in Texas has ruled partially in favor of plaintiffs that argued that requiring insurance companies to cover medications for HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis, or PrEP, violates their rights on religious grounds.

Jonathan Mitchell, who founded a one-person law firm in 2018 intending to challenge decades-old Supreme Court rulings, brought the case Braidwood Management Inc., vs. Xavier Becerra, in the Northern District of Texas.

There, United States district judge Reed O’Conner ruled in favor of plaintiffs who argued that paying for insurance that covers PrEP violates their religious beliefs because PrEP “enable[s and encourages] homosexual behavior.”

Read the full article.

The Dallas Morning News reported in July:

Right now, a half dozen cases on everything from insurance coverage for HIV prevention to employment discrimination and same-sex marriage are wending their way through state and federal courts here. Their outcomes could radically alter rights for LGBTQ people in Texas and across the country.

The lawsuits all have one thing in common: former Texas solicitor general Jonathan Mitchell. Best known as the man behind the state law that allows Texans to file civil lawsuits against people who help pregnant people get abortions, Mitchell opened up a law firm in Austin four years ago with the goal of systematically dismantling decades of court rulings he believes depart from the U.S. Constitution.

Again, the faith and sincerely held religious beliefs of the people using these drugs is trampled and ignored. If we’re going to become a country where the only thing that matters is “religious beliefs,” then WHOSE religious beliefs will take precedence?

Why Straight People Need to Talk More About PrEP
https://www.healthline.com/…

The CDC also recommends taking PrEP if you’re heterosexual and you don’t regularly use condoms during sex with people whose HIV status is unknown. You can also talk to your doctor to find out if you should take PrEP.

Because The virus that supposedly carries god’s judgment can’t infect heterosexuals?

I would say that this judge’s ruling violates my religious beliefs of treating others as we would want to be treated. His ruling violates my religious belief that one should not use the excuse of religious belief to impose their beliefs on everyone else.

Oh, it goes beyond anyone with HIV. They include anyone who might be on the receiving end of body fluids from someone with detectable HIV to die, as well. For instance, they want prison medical staff to just die (or quit).
